hey y'all,

i'll need to know by tomorrow (wednesday 23 may) if anyone else wants a copy
of the free borders magazine.  i want to make sure that i have plenty of
copies, and since the month is ending soon, i don't have that much time to
get many more.

so if you are interested let me know by tomorrow.  i will need a self
addressed, stamped, manilia-sized envelope from you.  if you don't live in
the us, you can send those postage coupons, but please make sure that you
sent enough (i have had problems with that before).  i can not be responsible
for any insufficent postage amounts.

thanks!

:-) karen

fox searchlight has acquired worldwide
distribution rights to the award-winning
lesbian romantic comedy "kissing jessica
stein."

this is good news and bad news. the good
news is that fox searlight handled such
well-made low budget films as "the full
monty" and "boys don't cry." it has a
good track record for this type of film.

the bad news is that the planned release
for the film is spring, 2002!!!!

please do not forget this film!

hello all,

so did anyone catch last night's episode of "family law?"  there was a an ig
reference.  i don't watch it often so i don't know much about it, but a man
who was in prision was talking to a woman and telling her about a song by
the indigo girls that his wife sang to his children at night called power of
two.  the woman said she didn't know it so he started to sing it and was
crying.  it was a sweet moment, and too cool with the ig reference!

best wishes

<<maybe they're trying to reconcile.>>

well,i don't know. i'm having a tough time accessing the video on my
webtv unit. it can show webcasts but a music is too much information all
at once..i don't get it.

but if it's true, (and let's hope that it's not) that she's giving
rolling stone private interviews and performances ....i don't know i'm
perplexed! if rolling stone is as sexist as amy says it is in
lucystoners,than why doesn't she
follow what she's preaching in her song, and just tell them,"no....i
don't want anything to do with you, "

i mean this brings up the question does amy  really mean what she says
or is lucystoners a
getting rolling stone' attenton so they'll start paying her and emily
the attention the give to
women who want to play madonna, like britney spears?

i'm ramblin'.  i  hope that somehow i'm making
sense. it's late.

well i finally got to view both of amy ray's videos for rolling
stone....they're okay.
at least now they're giving her some exposure.

so maybe she was really angry that they weren't giving her and emily
much attention and lucystoners was a way of expressing her frustration.
and by releasing  it, going public about rolling stone amy scared the
pants off'em. so theyre  workig  something out.

accept didn't amy say that they pulled the writers review when janny
wenner found out
it was up?  anyway it's up there now! go figure.

good night everyone.

i don't think lucystoners is really targeted *at* rolling stone
magazine any more than i believe johnny cash really shot a man in memphis
-- if you look at the lyrics, it's an indictment of the entire "boys'
club" mentality that pervades the music industry.  everything is in
there: radio, live shows, etc.
however, if rolling stone mag approached amy for an interview, why not
take it?  clearly, in the home of way-cooler-than-thou, somebody must have
had a passing fancy that she's relevant.  that's a good platform to spread
one's message, don't you think?

i just have to comment though.... i thought the videos were *excellent* in
quality.  was it just me, or did anybody get a tingly feeling in the "black
heart today" video when she looks right at the camera?  go back and replay
it... it was like she knew i had a black heart (oh dear, that sounds really
silly, but you know what i mean.... ;) ).

back in the earlier days of this list, back before burning cds was as big
as it is now, we used to put out a tape of listees covering indigo girls
songs every now and then.  i don't recall if it was a yearly project or
what, but i've been back on this list for awhile and i haven't heard a peep
out of anyone about it.

i think the idea came about when it was discovered that quite a few of us
are musicians, and of course we know ig stuff pretty well.  i'd like to
know if anyone out there is interested in making a compilation like we used
to do--and if anyone has the technology to make cassettes into cds so we
could have a list cd instead of a list tape. i'm willing to do what i can,
but i don't have access to a cd burner right now, so i can't handle that
part.

how this would work is everyone interested in recording a song would pick
one--i don't know how you all feel about overlaps (if two people want to do
the same song), so i could be in charge of having people let me know what
songs they want to send in and post that list every day or few days so you
all know what's left.  then, i'll set a deadline that all of these songs
have to be recorded by.  someone else with a cd burner (or two someones)
can be in charge of the tapes--and then the cds would be available to list
members at the cost of a blank cd and postage. does this sound fair? is
anyone interested?

great idea, sharon, as far as i know the last indicated tape has been
compiled quite a while ago, so it's about time for a new one.

i'd gladly do the cd burning part, no prob.

<<back in the earlier days of this list... we used to put out a tape of

the last one - indicated iv, came out on cd about a year or so ago - i
helped put it all together.
though i got the impression it wasn't all that popular with the masses -
even though there were some cracking tracks on there. there wasn't any big
discussion about it once it came out.
(i do have a few spare copies if anyone wants...)

<<i'd like to know if anyone out there is interested in making a compilation

that could work - in fact i still have some 'extras' from the last one
sitting on my hard drive. thing is, now there's this list, plus the message
boards at indigogirls.com and brianclary.com, it seems there's really no
central indigo girls community anymore, so there might be a fair bit of work
inovlved rallying the troops to action.

i'd certainly try and help out...

personal mail. i've requested return receipts on all the emails and she
hasn't received a one. i'm not sure what else to do. her cds have been
in the mail. i had to pay $10 more postage than she gave me because it
costs a lot more than $5 to ship to spain.

i'm not sure what else to do. if anyone knows her, or has traded with
her, can you let me know? i'd like to contact her to clear up my "bad
name" because i'm really quite unhappy receiving hate mail almost daily
when there's nothing i can do about it! :(

especially since i only agreed to make the cds for her as a special
favor and i told her it would take probably two months to get all of
them done and sent out. (i don't trade anymore because i'm just too
busy to do it the way i'd like). she agreed to that - said to take my
time. longer would be fine. all in all, it took me around a month.

i don't get it.

i don't get people. i'm really frustrated because there's nothing at
all i can do about it, at least until she gets the package (with emails
printed out in it to prove that i have been trying to contact her).

argh.

so, if you know her, can you let me know? i'm thinking someone else may
have traded with her at some time and can contact her for me.

thanks -
amy

thanks to everyone who has responded. i do stand corrected--neil put out an
indicated cd about six months ago, but i'm still up for another one. i have
gotten a lot of e-mails for volunteers, so i'm going to maybe set up a
temporary mailing list for anyone interested in helping so that we can all
communicate better without bugging people here with all the details. i'll
get back to you all with the list addy.
thanks again!

for those who have expressed interest in contributing music to or helping
to make an indicated cd, i've started a mailing list through yahoo (sorry,
i already have an account and it's easier for me to use than any other
service) and you can access the site at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/indicated
everyone is invited to join.  if you have trouble signing up, let me know
at dolittle_allday@yahoo.com since this address i'm sending from is only
good for a short time longer.
i'll be making updates to the main list here once a week or so (and other
indicated folks may do the same) but for the discussion of the nitty gritty
stuff, join the other list. i'm psyched to make this happen!

hi-
i was wondering if anyone knew where i could download or find the sheet
music for this ig cover. i've never heard the original (bob marley,
right?), so i don't know if it even contains a piano/keyboard part.
however, i've fallen in love w/a&e's version from the hte 2000 tour
which featured a keyboard part, which i'd really love to learn to play,
but i don't have a clue about where to find the music for the same? and
i'm pretty musically-challenged, so even if the guitar chords are
posted somewhere, i do not have the skills to derive the piano part
from them, b/c guitar music reminds me of a large bingo card (though
i'm quite glad so many others are able to decipher it!). lol) anyway,
any help or suggestions about where to look are much appreciated!!
many thanks in advance-
marian
ps to anyone who's ever heard me sing- do not worry, i'm not asking in
reference to the current 'indicated' thread! given my aforementioned
lack of musical coordination, i cannot sing and play at the same time,
so- rest assured any help you might be able to offer will not result in
my contribution to that worthwhile project!!

my semi-regular faves are wxpn in philly (which i don't need to listen to
online, hence, the rare need to listen to something online) at www.xpn.org
(for those so inclined, amazon country, a lesbian/feminist show, and q'zine,
a gay show, air sundays between 9 and 11 p.m. eastern time); wumb in boston
(www.wumb.org); wfuv in nyc (www.wfuv.org), and a fairly new addition, wyep
in pittsburgh (www.wyep.org). kpig in northern california is a good
commercial station.
there also is a site: http://www.publicradiofan.com that lists a bunch of
stations around the world, including the ones for which i am drawing a blank

may i suggest the greatest radio station on the net...
it's at launch.com...you tell them your favorite
artists and they build you your own station where you
can rate artists, songs, etc...
if anyone feels like subscribing to my station there,
my dj name is ferfina.  i play lots of indigo girls.

wbur is a folk station in boston - they actually handed out a great sampler
@ nff last yr, i think.

it's media player - so i cant listen to it at work, but i usually listen to
various npr stations whyy in philly, kuow in seattle, wamc in western ma/
ny, wamu in dc, and stuff like democracy now from wbai in nyc. but go to
the www.wbaifree.org site

save wbai - they rock

oh wait wfuv in nyc is media player. they are good as well

a person who needs to finish the amy reviews of boston and noho (extensive

i listen to wuky (wuky.uky.edu) and wrvg (www.wrvg-fm.org) here in
lexington, ky.  i can't say i have heard the indigo girls on wrvg - they
tend towards blues/jazz/bluegrass/world.  the midday programming on wuky
(9am-3pm) plays the indigo girls occasionally, along with a range of music
from keb mo to the wallflowers.  they're also pretty good about playing
local bands, which i think is wonderful.

subject:      question re live at the fillmore
mime-version: 1.0

i finally got sense and bought a video that supports ntsc playback instead of
having to pay lots and pots of money
to get us videos converted to play here on my vcr in ireland.

so i've been watching the fillmore video recently, and i noticed that at one
point in the video, when amy is talking
about activisim, you can hear emily singing in the background. i was trying to
identify the song, but couldn't.

so my question is . . . anyone know what it is?

thanks!
marion (aka mollyig)

        hey y'all
i was poking through my local record store yesterday, and i found
not one, not two, but three copies of blood and fire, one of the finest
quality commercial bootlegs around, and one that every serious ig fan
(barring those with moral qualms about buying unauthorized cds, that
is) ought to own.

http://members.home.net/andineil/indigogirls/bootlegs/blood_and_fire.html

i don't know how many of them will sell between 3pm yesterday and
whenever i get there tomorrow or wednesday, but i'm happy to pick up
whatever is still on hand for any listee who's willing to send me the cost
of the cd and postage. one of the copies was used, which meant that it a)
costs less and b) afforded me a look at the actual disc, so that i could
verify its authenticity. but insofar as i could tell, all three of these
discs were authentic pressed cds, not burned copies. the used cd was, i
think, $10, and the new ones were around $25 - certainly not much more
than that. email me if you'd like me to grab one for you, andlet me know
which you'd prefer - first come, first served.

        hey folksters -
i've already fielded three offers, so if you haven't written me
yet, i'm afraid i can't help you out this time... sorry. i'll keep
checking the store, though, to see if this is a fluke or if they have a
