anyone has figured out the chords, let me know. i started the song with g

you've got to show by emily saliers
this is true i'm fraught and very moody over you
don't think i don't sense your caution way across the room
across the phone lines big black ocean conversation brief
we can't find a clear connection packing carefully
chorus:
why don't we both agree we're both afraid of
we're too afraid to say
if i say count to three moves towards me
would you meet me halfway?
there are a thousand things about me
i want only you to know
but i can't go there alone
you've got to show.
why you occupy me i command my dreams each day
to bring you in me even clearly as morning chases you away
i have to leave you i just picture us it will come true
wishful thinking my hope sinking that depends on you
bridge:
you are full of life you want to fly take the sky
you want to kiss, kiss for real give you back everything you feel.
tried and spaces, peaceful places in a secret shell
the front and back and all around the thin march inner veil*
move too fast or move too slow or somewhere in between
but you never gained your perfect distance your getaway is clean.
why don't we both admit we're both afraid of, we're too afraid to say
if i say count to three move towards me would you meet me halfway?
there are a thousand things about you i want only me to know
but i can't go there alone, you've got to show.

they used to go into it from "cut it out" - there's a good version of
this on the 9:30 club boot that i did for the list a couple years ago.
there's about 300 copies of it floating around, so it shouldn't be hard
to get for those who want it.
oh - and by the way - as long as i'm at it - i hereby release everybody
from your pledge not to copy those cdrs i made. with mp3's and all,
the climate has changed, so distribute away. just don't sell anything.
oh, and don't email me for a copy of the 9:30 discs if you don't have
them. i have a job now that doesn't allow me the time to do bootlegs -
i mean, they actually expect me to work - can you imagine?! ask on the
list though, somebody will help if you want it.

subject: shallot
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; format=flowed
hi y'all. one last word about shallot. i'm an art historian...and having
seen and read about the lady of shallot, the i found the choice of lyric
brilliant when i first heard this song way back when. i coincidentally had
had a relationship exactly as em described in that song, so it was
extra-easy for me to interpret. as others have already pointed out, the
lady of shallot was not allowed to gaze directly upon the beauty of the
world, she had to view it indirectly through mirrors. the song describes a
person (the object of emily's attraction) who is focused very much on her
surface image, a person who leads people on based on a beautiful exterior.
i'm sure this, alone, made emily think of shallot because of the fact that
shallot was always looking in mirrors. but she is always looking in mirrors
at things that, for all intents and purposes, are not really there for her,
much like this person in the song. she describes her as "beautiful as
truth, empty as a shell"...or that she "reached through the surface, just to
find an empty pool." all these concepts...that is the effort one makes to
be so enamored with a outside image of something, but unable to have what is
beyond that in any palpable way, is a direct "reflection" (as it were) of
shallot's mirror images that lead only to death if she opts to pursue them
past their phantom mirror images. indeed, emily goes on to say that she was
lured by this imagery, and having successfully plunged through the barrier
to discover what was really there, was only profoundly empty and humiliated
as a result of the effort ("i came to you one night and you made me feel
like hell.") she is almost ashamed that she could have been so drawn in.
she warns this peron at the end of the song to "close your eyes" on judgment
day, so to speak, because her life was built only on exterior superficial
imagery with nothing beneath it. shallot died because she tried to attain
what she knew would be unattainable. in this song, emily is almost "lucky"
to have discovered the truth about the person before having been sucked
further into the vortex of pain and suffering when one is attracted so
strongly to something that is truly based on nothing.

useless, yet relavent trivia: not counting songs by atlanta-area musical

i thought i knew the answer to neil's question, so i went to brian
clary to research and found this:
which phrase didn't amy want to sing in hammer and nail because it
went against her political beleifs?
"had a lot of good intentions, sit around for 50 years and then
collect the pensions."
i thought, in the song, those words were describing someone, not
saying that was what the singer wanted to do. so i am confused about
her reluctance to sing that line.
anyone? anyone?
i'll leave the million points to someone else. i know i know it, but
i can't remember at all.

hey, fellow listees,
emerging from lurkdom with a bit of shameless self-promotion....
this coming sunday, i'll be celebrating my impending 55th birthday with the
help of 14 other performing acts: 7 female singer-songwriters - some solo ,
some fronting bands, 1 female poet (with musical accompaniment), 4
female-male duos, and my own musical aggregation (nicknamed the bee
charmers, from a line in one of my favorite movies, fried green
tomatoes)....
when i started producing shows 5 years ago, i called my production company
(myself, a battered sound system, and a series of even more battered
vehicles) missing lynx productions as a response to society's
divide-and-conquer mentality. music is dangerous, because it is the one
language that can transcend the racism, ageism, sexism, parochialism, and
homophobia that can be used to create isolated enclaves rather than a
unified humanity....
by asserting our individuality and maintaining our ideals we, can make a
difference, if not in the world at large, at least in our portion of it....
as always, the show will take place at nietzsche's, 148 allen st in buffalo
ny (http://www.nietzsches.com) from 8pm til the last song is sung (usually
3-4am) on sunday sept 2 2001....
this year's lineup includes:
katie miller - a long time friend - i played on her strongest girl in the
world cd....
leah zicari - veteran women's music artist - released her 1st cd, a hard
road a few months back...
pamela ryder - another long time friend - incredible voice - i played on her
soulryder cd
lea prentiss - a great friend whom i've accompanied on guitar for 4
years -she's recently blossomed into an incredible songwriter.....
amanda amico - a popular young singer-songwriter with a wonderful voice and
a great ear for harmony - i'll be working with her a great deal in the
future....
tammy shannon - excellent guitarist - wonderful friend - unique celtic
influenced original music tinged with r&b and folk-rock - we recorded tracks
for her forthcoming cd this past weekend....
amanda jarosz - another young performer with a great future - very unique
guitar work - intense songs - like a female lou reed or jim morrison......
suzanne switzer - musically and visuially, could be melissa etheridge's twin
sister....
liz abbott - one of the best song interpreters i've ever encountered - takes
other people's song and makes them her own....
sandra guerreiro - portuguese poet reads intensely while tb and the bee
charmers set the groove....
mike maffei & kim kerns - a wonderful harmony duo - i recently guested on
mike's cd consequences of desire....
rose bond & john allen - buffalo's iris dement and one of the most respected
multi-instrumentalists on the local scene....
peggy milliron & tom naples - for fans of gillian welch and david rawlings
russian hands & roman fingers - longtime friends ron (guitar) and lynette
(flute) make music their way - very unique sound....
plus a late night jam with timmy b and the bee charmers (billie williams -
harmonica & percussion, kim preston - sax, jae leblanc - percussion) and
whoever happens to wander up onstage.....
all of this for only $3.00.....
i am extremely proud of this years lineup - it is arguably the most diverse
and interesting show i've ever assembled.....
hope to see some of you there....
peace,
tim

thing that's on tv - is this the video that's out or is this the fillmore
show they just did??
also, to whoever is getting copies of the michelle california boots... there
is a little sound fluctuation at the beginning of the san diego shows.
basically it was still light out during her sets so i think i was moving
around a bit trying to hide the tape recorder from security :p so just wanted
to warn everyone. they still sound pretty good, but there you go...

so i don't usually post these, but this one is just too perfect to pass up:
ok, so i was pricing airline tickets to san francisco (my boyfriend lives
near san fran...). anyway, appearantly united.com is having a sale called
(and i shit you not) "san francisco to the end of the earth" fares.
can we just say "i'm running to the end of the earth"
woo hoo!
this sale is really appropriate considering:
a) world falls is my favorite song
b) matt (my boyfriend) got amy and emily to play world falls for me at a show
this past summer near san francisco.
anyway, i just had to share.
by the way, the "sfo to the end of the earth" sale ain't all it's cracked up
to be. just last week, when i bought a ticket to sfo, i paid $150 less
without the sale!
allrighty, i think i need to go to sleep...

all right, folks we've talked about what we'd love to hear....now let's

i've got a great one....a little bit of country a little bit of rock

any donny&marie song for that matter .
