i saw the new david lynch film, "mullholland falls"
recently. the movie is good but very strange,
just like most of lynch's work. i hated the ending.
the reason i mention the film here is because
they are a couple of love scenes between the
two lead actresses, naomi watts and laura elena
harrington that are just scorchers!
now you know.

i never post these days, but having seen mulholland drive (not falls)
yesterday, i'll bite.
scorchers? in what sense? lots of gratuitous frontal nudity from the
two female leads but nothing much else. left me cold (actually left me
feeling like i'd walked into a straight guy's girl-on-girl fantasy,
but...). a compelling film, i thought, but certainly not for the sex
scenes.

i am ok for the most past. i've never had a seizure before and hope i never
have one again. the last thing i remember was talking to catherine spinale
at the restaurant and then being in the ambulance.
physically except for a very sore tongue from where i bit it on both sides
during the seizure, i am ok. emotionally.....i found out that my mother
passed away at the same time i was seizing.
thank you for caring and wondering how i was doing

traci, thanks so much for organizing the ballet tickets and going to

visiting atlanta for the first time. i will be in town next wednesday

there. my wife will be attending a conference for most of the days, which
leaves me free to explore. any help would be grately appreciated?
a couple of questions - i was thinking of taking a day and visiting athens -
any locals have any suggestions?
are there any good spots to go used cd shopping? how about good music
venues?
thanks in advance for any help.

ohmygod. i just found the coolest website.
<http://www.eeggs.com/>. it's a trove of hidden things. little secrets stuck
in everday stuff that you never even knew were there. hidden everywhere.
in art. in lyrics. in movies. in computers.
for example, as per the instructions i found there, i've just toyed with my
internet explorer settings. now, when i click 'search,' my search options
are: 'find yourself', 'find the perfect gift', 'find that special someone,'
and 'find happiness.' and there's a page where a godzilla cracks out of an
easter egg and then the ie icon comes crashing down on him. i am so not
kidding (you need to be running ie5.0 though, or else follow the specific
instructions on how to reconfigure your version-- they're posted by a
reader). go to this site.
anyhow, for any sarah mclachlan fans, i found this:
1. insert the enhanced version cd of "surfacing" into your pc cd-rom drive.
2. click on the surfacing ecd icon
3. run the cd-rom multimedia
4. at the main menu, click the center of the large tree.
(there is a knot in the tree, click there.)
5. a new screen appears, and a small movie plays of sarah mclachlan playing
the drums for "building a mystery", and the other members of the band.
happy noodling.
jill
many of my students are so awestruck that they are speechless when they see
me--or else they burst into tears, like small children when a scary clown
talks to them at a birthday party.

hey folks
so yeah, it's wednesday. better late then never, sez i....
as has been mentioned, the ig-ballet collaboration was super-cool. and for
anybody going to atlanta, the fox theatre (where the ballet was performed) is
worth a visit even without any igc; it's an incredible building.
i got a chance to talk to margo sappington (who choreographed the project) by
the stage door on sunday night. it was a neato experience all round, because
she was gushy and extravagant (my friend suzannah said later that it was like
meeting the personification of the hyperbolic stereotype of somebody who's
spent her whole life neck-deep in the ballet world) but also full of really
interesting information. touch me fall, she said, was the first song she chose,
("of course") and the rest followed. she also related to me a recent
conversation with amy, in which amy confessed that her initial reaction to
hearing tmf named in the program was "oh, crap." the song, amy told margo
sappington, had been dead to her for several years - she'd tried it in both
stadiums and clubs but had never felt that it worked. i'm assuming she told
margo this because she's since changed her mind... at any rate the song sounded
marvellous live, full of energy. hearing it life with an orchestra, though, i
can see why it might have felt wrong without a full string section on hand.
the other interesting thing margo sappington told me is that, pending a good
reception from the arts community, this project is far from over. the folks at
the ballet are trying to rustle up funding for a video, and with any luck the
show will eventually go on tour. :)
to all the folks i met this weekend, especially the crowd who convened at
eddie's for the michelle malone show - it was so good to meet you all.
mandy,
still tired but also still euphoric

p.s. nigc, and irrelevant to all non-philadelphians - kevin so is playing a
house concert for us in west philly this friday, and we still have some space
left! email me if you want details.

-sherlyn
---begin article---
cognac, kilts and rowdy girls ballet
and from now on, call me prince brave pants
by andisheh nouraee
the indigo girls project, a collaboration between the atlanta duo
and the atlanta ballet was fantastic. the show, which i saw saturday
afternoon at the fabulous fox, consisted of the indigo girls playing
seven of their songs with a full-band and the atlanta ballet
orchestra. the ballet's dancers performed pieces with each song, all
choreographed by margo sappington. even though i like the ballet and
the indigo girls, i was half expecting the collaboration to be
touchy-feely mush with ballet dancers in plaid and denim tights. i
was completely wrong.
instead of making the indigo girls into ballet, they made the ballet
rock. the dance was thrilling, kind of like a crimeless, fightless,
jets-only west side story done by a ballet for a gap commercial. the
crowd was lively, mostly female, and far more rambunctious than a
typical ballet crowd. if you drove by agnes scott college saturday
afternoon and the campus was deserted, it's because they were at the
fox with me.
unfortunately, i couldn't shoot saturday's performance. instead of
leaving you pictureless, however, i made the above photograph on my
computer, giving you a general, albeit completely inaccurate
impression of what it looked like.

but i'm still speechless!!! what an amazing weekend!!!
i still feel like it was a dream.
it started on friday, i went to the 8:00 pm show. when i called
ticketmaster in august, the gods/goddesses of indigo must have
been on my side because, i got the only open front row seat
not held by season-ticket holders. since it was an evening show,
i decided to get all styled up in a black beaded jacket and floor length
black skirt. (hang on, there is a reason why i mentioned this-i'm not vain).
so there i was in the front row feeling like royalty. the conductor (music
dan - we call him) came out and started the music, then the curtain opened
to a beautiful blue backdrop and the female portion of the ballet all
dressed in
pale blue and white - they were stunning. the serenade was so breathtaking,
i started to tear up - before the girls even came out. when it was over
i stepped outside for the intermission, then went back and met the
conductor.
he was so nice and i told him the music was beautiful. then i sat down and
saw this small stage coming up out of the orchestra pit. i said a silent
"oh my
god-they're putting them in the center - right in front of my
eyeballs". then they came out and sang lc and the company was dressed
up like fans - it was cute. then the girls moved to a side stage and they
started
playing "shed your skin". well, i was finding it so hard to sit still, that
i did a little
"chair dance" and almost popped a bead right off my jacket. then they did
(i hope this
is in the right order) caramia, ghost, scooter boys, eiiot and touch me
fall. then at
the end they sang ctf and the company got in a circle and did solo freelance
dancing.
it was so amazing, but it went by so fast. but i wasn't too sad because i
had the matinee
to look forward to.
for the matinee i sat in the 5th row, left center - the girl's side - so i
got to peak at them a little
more than friday, but it was good to have two shows to go to - that way, i
got to see both sides.
i enjoyed it just as much, but i couldn't find our list group - so i got
kind of nervous because i
didn't know what anyone looked like and we had reservations at watershed in
my name. finally,
i met up with everyone, we ate then went on to michelle's show. it was so
nice meeting traci & stephan,
joey (my new boyfriend), mandy, suzanne, heidi and kathryn or catherine (my
prayers to you, heidi), and the
two girls who didn't sit with us-i can't remember your names. it was also
great meeting amy (indigirl), dee, brenda
and the gang from bbs. mike c & ron -- maybe next time - hope you enjoyed
it.
i ended my trip by eating breakfast the flying biscuit with joey, visiting
with some of the girls from the "board"
at their hotel and leaving my green jacket somewhere in atlanta - oh well,
hopefully it got into the hands of
someone who needed it.
now i'm back to reality and it really stinks - but i will return to my
favorite city again.
happy friday

hkf's!
over the last couple of years i have found a place on the internet that i
call home. this list.
indigo girls are the most powerful living influences on my life artisticly,
and philosophicly and have changed what i concider acceptablely defined as
great.
i know i've gotten under the skin of some list members before and received
tons of flame mail for it... to those i say.... thanks. way to battle it out!
rock on!!
to those who have supported my rants you rock more!!!! you're my favorite. i
like you more then the other people!!!! if i was a parent and you were both
my kids, i would tell the other kid that i like you more! then i'd make the
other kid do your chores and 100 push-ups! =)
i love this list and the people on it. however, lifes ever changing sequence
of passing time and circumstances have forced this to be the last post from
joe from brooklyn.
i'm moving to manhattan!!!!!
i'm still going to be my firey, anylastic, forward and funny self. but for
now on send your flames to
joe
