i suppose i will delurk for the first time in a long long time to share my
tidbit of igc
i was at the iron horse in northampton the other night to see jess klein and
melissa ferrick (both who are great - but in very different ways). melissa
was amazing that night - the best i have ever seen her - anyways for the igc
-she was talking about her new album and how she already has michelle malone
and edie carey singing backup. she had mentioned a while ago (like 2 years
ago) wanting to sing with ig - but now she actually has a song written and
both parts written - i think it was this song called selfish side - which was
a great new song - and she mentioned how it would basically be her dream if
amy and emily would sing backup on it - but that in today's world, its hard
to get anyone to do anything for free so she didnt know if they would do it.
but i think she is taking the initiative - so for all you ferrick and ig
fans, her new album could be full of many pleasant surprises.

i'm offering a small present too: a mp3 of emily singing "river". anyone
want to claim their gift and have it sent via email?

first of all, let me say merry christmas to all,
and especially to those with a similar family vs.
partner dilemma as i faced. thanks to all of you
for sending me advice, or just comiserating so i
knew i wasn't alone.
just thought i'd let those interested in the end
of the story know, that i worked out the best
compromise that i could. i spent christmas eve
and most of christmas day with my partner.
around 6:30, i headed off to mom and dad's to
give them their presents. with christmas mostly
being over at that point, it didn't bother my
partner and she is very understanding about my
predicament, so, she was okay with it.
fortunately, my grandmother was still there and i
got to visit with her - she's 87 and innocent in
all this. my brother and his wife were gone,
which was good, because being there without my
partner when he's there with his is what
irritates me the most. which is a shame, because
i really like my sister-in-law. but i digress.
i left my parents' house and headed to my
brothers' for a half-hour or so, and that was
okay.
so, i was able to avoid the 'whole family
together' situation, and still got to see
everybody and them-me, while spending the bulk of
the holiday with my partner. it's a solution i'd
recommend to anyone in my boat, who loves their
family in spite of their lack of understanding.
happy holidays y'all.
glad to see the ass-end of 2001,
tara

hey all,
just wondering if any kind soul who has a little extra time on their hands
would want to put all of the new songs that were booted this summer on one
disc. that way we will all have them and we will only have 1/2 of an album
to learn before this tour begins, or am i the only one who is obsessed with
knowing as many of the words that i can from a new album before going to a
show? just a thought.

there is a studio version taped 6/29/01 @ democracynow.org (or .com?) where
amy played it.
also - is the club tour going to be a real tour or a repeat of 1997's promo
radio show and industry type tours????
mike - who would like to see them somewhere, but wont fret - it should be a
long year and tour in 2002.
(i for one will be glad when this yr ends.)

hi folks - here is a quick thing - i have nff '01 - but i totally botched
the normalization job (massive hiss on a digital recording)
here is a run down of what is / has been played and available
"you've got to show" - played this summer
"deconstruction" - i will put a mp3 of my hissy version up tomorrow night
"she's saving me" - brian clary had this forever - my fave emily song -
it is wierd tho - totally new context from when i first heard it b
"nuevos senoritas" - this is an old tune - they played it a few times -
12-14-97 boston is a known recording -
"starkville" - played all summer
yield." ditto
moment of forgiveness" - out on napster as a stag solo demo - i think from
a amy songwriters night in 00
become you" - played on democracy now 6/29/01 - available in realaudio
others were developed in the
studio:
(so is the promo copy out yet??? 8^))
"hope alone", "collecting you", " "trust",
"bitterroot"
ok, four songs the world is waiting to hear. this is the stripped down
acoustic album, right???
wait - wasnt part of bitterroot played as a soc or something?
so three...damn bootleggers...
(thinking, almost all the rites and swamp songs were played before release,
as was all the sots cd
(i think) and most of cons.)
8^)
