wow!!!!!!

tami hart opened--can i just say how cute she is! very young--i can imagine
how it must feel to be 18 or 19 and opening for amy ray. one of her guitar
strings broke after her first song, and the guitar was strung left handed.
a new one was brought out, but strung the opposite way. she finished her
entire set left handed with a right strung guitar--i was very impressed. she
has a lot of potential as a performer. she came out during amy's set to play
the xylophone, i forget which one. it was very cute. she also sang on the
last couple songs, refugee and
the butchies were up next. they are so awesome. it was the first time i had
the pleasure of seeing them live, and i was very surprised. melissa, the
drummer, is a riot. they had a few technical difficulties with alison's
bass, so melissa came out for an impromptu poetry reading (something about
lesbian sex i think), and finished with an interesting version of stairway to
heaven with kaia. she is the funniest performer i've ever seen.
then there was amy. it's not every day when you can go to a show and see a
performer of amy's caliber set up her equipment for 20 minutes, and watch
people take pictures of her *plugging stuff in*. it was great. she started
with johnny rottentale of course, which was intense and incredible. before
she started, she told us that she wrote the song about a producer she and
emily had that she didn't like. then she brought the butchies back out, who
had changed into dress shirts and ties that spelled out "gay" on their backs.
very funny. amy was in an awesome mood. i've never seen her smile so much
or talk so much during a show. she seemed genuinely happy to be there, and
complimented the audience several times on how nice we were. she looked
great too, and she had her shirt sleeve pulled up enough to see the hand
tattoo, which made me *very* happy. at one point, she joked with the people
on the balcony about how it's better to take pictures from up there because
you can't see her double chin. she played everything off of stag. i have to
say, there isn't one song i don't love on this album. lazyboy was a
highlight, the audience was silent and when she finished, everyone just kind
of sighed and said "wow".
[...]
all in all it was an amazing experience. the butchies rocked, and were a
perfect fit for amy. she was even wearing a butchies t-shirt. if you
haven't gotten tickets for a show, do it! you will be extremely happy you
did. as a devotee of acoustic music, i wasn't sure if i would like this
show. it was extremely different than an indigo girls concert, but in a good
way. it was great to see amy doing her own thing. and thanks to the
butchies, i think i have a newfound love of lesbian punk music!
