girls mailing list at netspace.org.]
i posted for the first time the other day, and now i can't stop my damn self!
since i'm on the "digest" version, this may be old news by the time you read
it. but just in case, here's the set list from tonight's concert in salt lake
city at lovely red butte gardens.
gone again
devotion
ghost
faye tucker
power of two
new song by amy: "broken" (?? not sure of the actual title)
new song by emily: "deconstruction of love" (this one had me bawling--can't
wait for fall for the new "folk" album!)
closer to fine (with someone from the audience called "jim"--it was his 39th
b-day)
shame on you
get out the map
new song by amy: "starkville" (great--powerful lyrics such as "haunted by
geography and the flora and fauna of your heart")
lucystoners (yep-she's doing something from "stag")
new song by emily: i'm going to call it "she's saving me" ?? (very pretty!)
chicken man
that song with rose polenzani where they sing three-part harmony (my friend
says it's called "so..." but i don't necessarily believe him)
*at this point, they informed us that there were four songs left, and that
there would be no encore, as it always seemed so silly and forced
least complicated
land of canaan
philosophy of loss
galileo
*true to their word, no encore--but then again, it did last 1:50, which is 20
minutes longer than usual
wonderful show, as always! and it was so exciting to hear some of their new
stuff. i was trying to jot down some of the resonating lyrics, but it was
too much, too fast, and i don't have the gift of shorthand. but these are
close approximations:
"as for the truth, we just pick a theory that fits with our daily lives" and
"we're sculpted from youth but keep chipping away at the cracks" (these are
from "deconstruction of love"--forgive me, emily, for any injustices)
and in "she's saving me" or whatever it's really called, she says "it feels
like ____ (no fear?), it feels like no doubt, it feels like inside out, like
ashes being stirred"--that may not be quite right, but trust me, it was
gorgeous!
oh well, i'll be seeing them again next month in northampton, ma, so i'll get
another listen. in fact, i think i may make my first attempt at booting the
show. i simply cannot wait until the cd comes out! (i don't suppose anyone
booted the show tonight or from the first few shows? if so, i'd love a copy!
please e-mail me privately. thanks!)
ok, this turned out to be way longer than i had intended, but i hope you
enjoyed the tidbits nonetheless. --gina

subject: [ig-news] new boot offer + tree announcement
[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]
hey y'all-
i'm totally excited to announce the details of that recently mentioned
boot offer!! so, if you're interested in acquiring your copies of the
latest treasures from our resident boot-creator extraordinaire, neil
hunt, read on for more info on what, how, and where, to obtain your
boots.
(1) what: 11 discs (3 of which require 80 min/700mb discs)
original indigos- a 2-disc compilation of songs covered by ig, sung by
the original artists, or other artists who's earlier versions are often
affiliated w/particular songs.
live at the fillmore- the 2-disc complete (though unrelated) boot from
the 11-20-99 show in denver.
ppv- another 2-disc collection of material from the 6/97 pay-per-view
show from great woods in ma, combined with ig's lilith fair appearances.
***indigo guests- a 3-disc compilation of songs by other artists
w/performances by amy, emily or both. (three 80 min/700mb discs)
color me grey- the entire contents of amy's first solo album combined
w/the 'study hall boot'- a high school performance by a&e from before
they became indigo girls (and be sure to check out the respective cover
art w/pics of young amy from the shamrock high school yearbook!). a pbr
compilation.
2-5-00 gaspirilla street festival- boot of ig's outdoor show in tampa,
fl, last winter, where the weather was downright chilly, but a&e's
performance was anything but!! recording from tara lane.
(2) how:
using the list below, please contact the person designated as your
branch, determined by your birthday (w/in us) or your location (outside
us). after receiving your message, your branch will respond w/specific
details about where to send your blanks, their particular cdr brand
preferences (if any), time constraints, etc. if your original branch is
unable to handle your request, then contact the appropriate back-up
person, who has been specifically charged w/alleviating overflow.
as a leaf, you should be prepared to send 11 blank discs (3 of which
must be 80 min/700 mb) as well as a package w/postage (or the $
equivalent) and your return address to your branch (more info on
shipping below). your branch will then burn your copies and send them
back to you. you will also need to download and print your own cover art
(instructions to follow in a separate message) from:
http://go.to/neilytones
and that's it. nothing else is required, but do remember that your
branches have *volunteered* their time and energy to facilitate the
distribution of these boots, so please feel free to enclose any extra
little tokens of appreciation b/c without these fabulous folks (and
neil, above-mentioned boot guru) listed below, this tree would not be
possible!!
(3) where: (the tree)
jan/feb: elle mckay - elle.mckaydemont@wausau.com
march/april: dave murray - murdog2@hotmail.com
may/june: mi rinda kovacs - mirinda.kovacs@westgroup.com
july: karen asiu - kla@aloha.net
august: ryan blackhawke - hawke210@home.com (away from 7/19 -7/31)
september: jude hunter - hunterj1@aol.com
october: kristi henson - krishensn@aol.com
november: chad west - chadwest@mac.com
december: cathy casey - foxtrot4170@aol.com
back-ups-
jan-june: dee yellowlees - tomboy1969@excite.com
july-dec: melissa anderson - melissa@u.washington.edu
canadians: lesley stubbs ljstubbs@sympatico.ca
outside of us + canada: marian rowan (me) mrowan@gmu.edu (away from
7/16 - 7/27)
(4) shipping
obviously it is much cheaper and easier to ship discs w/out their jewel
cases, and there is a wide variety of less bulky alternatives. one
thing that really works well for these "monster" boot deals is those
plastic cd booklets- vinyl booklets that hold 15 or 20 discs. they
really protect the cdrs and they don't weigh much. if you do decide to
enclose jewel cases, please make sure they are unwrapped!!! thanks. :)
(5) a final request:
when you respond to this offer, please direct any questions to me or
replies to your branch, offlist. i will be away from 7/16 - 7/27,
w/intermittent email access. so, i promise to answer as quickly as i
can, but your patience is much appreciated!!
thanks very much! enjoy the music-
marian
