[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]

hey y'all,

hope everyone at nff right now is having an awesome time! i've never posted
a concert review before so please, anyone who was there, jump right in and
share your side.
last night was only my third concert so i'm not an ig concert expert, but it
was pretty awesome. the girls were in a good mood and looked rested. my last
concert was last year (gasp!) in albany and emily looked pretty tired during
it. not last night. amy was also excited because her sister and jennifer
were in the audience too. she mentioned this before devotion and she looked
over to where they were sitting. (as a side note, during kid fears amy
opened her eyes and sang a verse directly to that spot in the audience, i
wondered if it had any special meaning)

the set list is as follows:

gone again
hammer and a nail
devotion
power of two
starkville
get out the map
faye tucker
something with rose polenzani (i know that is the wrong spelling, i'm sorry)
deconstruction of love
reunion
virginia woolf
yield
philosophy of loss (with a talk by emily on the church)
shame on you
closer to fine
kid fears
you've got to show
lucystoners
she's saving me
(and, as the two non-encores)
ozilline
galileo

1945 opened. i'd never heard them before ('cept on stag) but they sounded
good to me. lively, energetic punk music. amy came out and sang late bloom
with them. i was sitting second row all the way over to the right (emily
side, yay!) so i could see the tech area. amy and emily watched them...amy
sang along and played air guitar. it was cute. she also stuck her tounge out
at one point at the lead singer. one note about the bass player. wow! she
looks so powerful on stage and she can really rock. i told her she looked
awesome on stage after the show and she was like, "uhhh, thanks" i felt
kinda silly...i don't know how much feedback they get from people.

the audience was wonderfully respectful remaining quiet during many, many
songs. the ladies behind me were super enthusiastic and amy recognized them
calling them "their friends from the west coast" she mentioned how they made
the vegas show "interesting". they knew the words to all the new songs and
sang them with reckless abandon. most everyone was silent on she's saving
me. (something i really wanted after being able to hear it because of the
amazing brian clary! woo hoo! you rock!) during parts of faye tucker ("i
thought i heard the angel's bells, but they were just the hounds of hell")
it was so quiet....it was creepy....it was the best part of the concert for
me. oh, and for all you rose fans, the song she sang went "i'm ready to
leave all this wreckage behind me". it had beautiful harmonies!

everyone only got up to dance on ctf and galileo...i was hoping people would
want to boogie more, but so it went.

a word on the new songs:
starkville is so haunting! i couldn't always make out what she was saying,
but i liked the musicality of it.
tonight was the second time they played emily's you've got to show in
concert. it was cute, the way emily's songs can be. it had a slow jazzy feel
to it and i think the audience enjoyed it.

a few more rambling side notes and then i hope a more capable person can add
more.....
emily had a cross and couple of doo-dads hanging from her mike...anyone know
what they are?
during ctf when emily whistled she messed up and didn't quite get it out.
she laughed and said, "whatever" before continuing to sing. at one point the
audience was yelling out mucho requests and someone yelled "make it easier!"
emily balked and mouthed out a long "nooooooo" with a smile on her face.
the audience took over stipe's part in kid fears and at the end where
everything gets confusing between the three parts i could have sworn emily
was leaping inbetween parts...at that point i stopped singing and just
listened to the awesome harmonies from everyone around me.
and.....it was awesome to see lucystoners as an acoustic amy solo.

if anyone booted this concert (geez, i should have gotten stuff to boot it,
i was next to the speakers!) please e-mail me privately and perhaps we can
work something out if you are willing to do a blank tape/postage deal or
trade.

it was a great show, and the girls seemed to really enjoy themselves.
