hi all!
sorry to bug everyone with this but i'm looking for someone and don't have
his/her e-mail addy anymore.
a couple of months back i promised to copy the on the road to austin video
for you because you were really interested in the lincoln duncan bit. well, my
ntsc tape dubing opportunity is here now but only for a couple more days, so
please drop me a line, so i know where to send the tape, k?
if anyone else still needs a copy of on the road to austin (a bootleg video
compilation of various ig appearances etc.), i'm afraid i can't help you,
since i usually don"t have the opportunity to copy ntsc tapes and am only
staying in the states for a couple more days right now. i'm sure if someone
desperately needs a copy, a listee from the states who happens to have the tape will
help you out.
be well,
kathrin
ps jen, doing your copy right now:)

hi amanda!
it's an old paul simon song that amy sometimes covers.
the on the road to austin thing is a bootleg video tape that someone
compiled a while ago. among many different tv appearances of the girls and such
there is also a clip of amy doing lincoln duncan during a gig.
as i said, i"d love to make copies of this for everyone who'd like to have
one but usually i don't have access to a vcr with ntsc record ability (i'm
from europe, we have a different system there, called pal).
if there's nobody on this list who's in the us, has the tape and two vcrs
and the time to make some copies, i'll gladly take some "orders" (as in: i'll
take the names and addies of people who want a copy... of course, no one has
to pay for this!! it would be a return postage and blank tape kinda thing, as
always with fan trades) and copy the tape for everyone when i'm back here
again.
be well,
kathrin

hi,
just so you all know, seattle's kmtt will be playing "moment of forgiveness"
at 4pm pst today. not in seattle? don't fret! neither am i. they have a
website and you can listen live (that is if you can deal with buffers) at
www.kmtt.com <http://www.kmtt.com/> . be sure to log on a few minutes early because a) last time
they played the song earlier than announced (not 9am pst...) and b) you have
to download something to listen. anyway, the ig bbs has been freaking out
about this all day. we may get a mention on the radio :) anyway, so if
you're dying to hear the new single, then tune in (right "lurker"? heheh)

just heard the single radio version of moment of forgiveness- very country
- not really alt country like
wilco, son volt that i sorta expected ig to sound like, it is good, i
totally like the song, i have a bit more liking for the solo mp3 that is
been circling around on the napster type things..
amy ray meets patsy cline isnt a slam - i grew up being forced to listen to
patsy cline (ok, crazy would be an interesting cover)
but i like it - i wasnt crazy about peace tonight or shame on you or touch
me fall , but all those albums were great - once released.

i was on a date today at the panda inn restaurant in glendale, ca. as we were leaving, i heard some familiar music on the intercom system and someone singing something about "give me insight between black or white."
i told my date to stop and explained to her that the song i was hearing was "closer to fine" and that it was rare to hear this tune on a radio or anywhere outside of a cd. my date saw how excited i was and said we shouldn't leave until the song was over. i think i'm in love.
can't wait for the new album!

hey--i have probably subbed and unsubbed myself about 7 times. been through
3 computers and about 4 email addresses (1 computer was stolen--i can only
imagine what the thief thought seeing all that ig banter on the hard drive
along with downloaded porn). ok tmi i know.
i haven't posted in ages and the recent posts from old ig chaps had me
reminiscing (sp?). does anyone know what happened to the folks at rdr
(rainy day records)? i recall there being this big fiasco where they were
selling ig boots and old recordings without ig permission and were
subsequently banished from everything. i also seem to recall that they
moved from atlanta but were still doing business. any clues? just
curious-i don't intend to buy from them or anything. they were such list
staples way back when and i wondered if anyone knew about their fate.
new album and touring means things should be firing up again soon. looking
forward to an all acoustic cd and stimulating conversation. and a big hi to
all the old timers out there--greg

i recently copied the "on the road to austin" video for a listee and will do it for anyone else who wants a copy. it is a compilation made by someone on the list of various ig video performances.
it gets its title both from the song "chickenman" and from the fact that the "shaming of the sun" album was recorded in austin. the video was put together at the time that album was nearing release.
just send me a blank video and return postage. e-mail me privately if you are interested.
kathrin, if you want to transfer the name and addresses you receive to me, i'll be happy to take care of this!
neil, i'm a big mary lou lord fan, what's up about her being in your living room? e-mail me privately please!
thanks to the listee who kindly offered to send me the "ally mcbeal" episode i requested!!

i havent subbed/unsubbed multiple times, but i have been on the ig list since september 1990 :-) yes, the list community =
really is that old!
as for rainy day records, allow me to shed some light. for those unfamiliar, rdr was a store in decatur ga which sold a =
lot of ig collectibles and releases, and heartily supported the atlanta music scene. one day, when amy was in the store,=
perry (the owner) asked her about ig bootlegs. amy essentally gave him a thumbs up, asking simply that prices be kept a=
ffordable and that she be sent copies.
a little later down the line, perry put out some "new" bootlegs. amy was in the store and saw them but said nothing. sh=
e had russell carter call him and get into the mix, accusing perry of wrongdoing. had amy simply spoken to perry when sh=
e saw them in the store and expressed her misgivings about those releases, he would have pulled them from the shelves, ca=
se closed. amy then went on to make statements in an interview about the situation. while she didnt name the store outr=
ight, anyone who was familiar with rdr could tell that was to whom she was referring.
as a result, perry himself decided to no longer carry or support ig releases or related materials. he was never banished=
by ig forces or anyone else. the store left atlanta around the time of the atlanta olympics. perry's objection (to be =
polite) was about how amy handled it, not talking to him directly but using indirect methods to cut him down.
now, rdr exists mainly as an online seller, conducting auctions prmarily on ebay. they are based in sc. his focus is on =
collectible vinyl, these days, and not as much on folk/singer-songwriter material though he can provide any regular relea=
se that a customer is looking for.
anyone who wants to know more, or just wants to say hi, is welcome to do so. rdr is at 1-800-636-6166 or rainydayrex@min=

i haven't posted in ages and the recent posts from old ig chaps had me
reminiscing (sp?). does anyone know what happened to the folks at rdr
(rainy day records)? i recall there being this big fiasco where they were
selling ig boots and old recordings without ig permission and were
subsequently banished from everything. i also seem to recall that they
moved from atlanta but were still doing business. any clues? just
curious-i don't intend to buy from them or anything. they were such list
staples way back when and i wondered if anyone knew about their fate.

so i figured this might be of interest to yet more listees. yes, mary lou
lord is coming to play our li'l house concert series (www.sixthst.com <http://www.sixthst.com/>) in
march. and that promises to be a rare treat indeed. we are, should you be as
yet unaware, just west of philadelphia.
i hadn't been getting any list response for these things (neither has mandy
and her excellent house concert series over at www.southpawconcerts.com) <http://www.southpawconcerts.com)/>
which is a big shame, so i didn't make too much of a fuss over it before now
kids, mary lou lord's "got now shadow" cd is a perfect slice of
jingle-jangle heaven and her new solo acoustic "live city sounds" is also a
rather good listen indeed. a quarter of the tickets for mll have already
been sold and yet more are reserved awaiting payment, so get your
reservations and $$ in early.
and don't forget our other great artists. they might not all have the four
star rolling stone review of mll, or the where in the world is carmen
sandiego? tv stardom of sean altman, but each of them is hand picked for
tasty musical goodness that will appeal to every ig fan of discriminating
tastes...
more info on our website, or email me privately.

mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; format=flowed
hey all,
ok, i think i will take on the task of putting together all of the songs
from the album that are available to us, because i would really like to have
this on cd to listen to.
here is what i have, if anyone has a song on a boot or recorded from the
radio that i can add to this list, let me know and we can add it. maybe we
can put them on someones website and we can all download them or i can do cd
copies if you can't download easily? what do ya think?
i have these:
"deconstruction"
"she's saving me"
"nuevas senoritas"
"starkville"
"yield"
"moment of forgiveness"

i don't have these:
"you've got to show"
"hope alone"
"collecting you"
"trust"
"bitterroot"
"become you"
email me privately if you have anything that i don't :o)

hi to all who have read this far;
i'm currently an aol user but due to problems logging on at night (we always
get kicked off, or can't get on at all...this has been going on since sept.
and we've tried everything that aol has suggested), we're switching to rcn.
i wonder how any of you would rate your experience having rcn as a service
provider? any problems? are you satisfied?
whatever you want to share is appreciated.

i'm the most recent newbie on the list. :) i was actually on this list
before, but ended up having to unsubscribe.
i'm a huge ig fan, obviously, and i'm starting to get into the
boot-collecting business. i have three right now (blood and fire,
complicated girls, and live & extra traxx.) i'd like more. i have a
cd-burner, so if anyone starts a tape-tree (or i guess a cd-tree), i would
be more than happy to help out. :)
i'm 21, and a college junior (i would be a senior, but i just switched my
major to english). that's pretty much it. also, i got to meet amy a
couple days ago at the future of music conference, and completely
embarrassed myself. :) (for a visual, she asked my name and there was a
few seconds' pause.) she was nice about it though, and so hopefully i
won't be later mentioned in a song as "the girl who forgot her name in dc." :)

about a year ago i met amy at an organic food store here in altanta. i was in line at the checkout and she was putting her groceries on the belt right behind me. i didn't notice it was her until i saw her tattoo on her arm. she was buying a brand of food called "amy's" and i made some really cheesy remark about amy buying "amy's" food...surprisingly, she thought it was pretty funny and i actually got to chat with her on the way out to the parking lot... :) (btw...she was driving an old beat up ford bronco...the idea to follow her did come into my head, , but i soon realized that would probably put me into stalker territory.) i also met emily at a joan osborne concert, but that story is much less interesting...

mm. i think it's amy, emily and jane scarpentoni.....but i'm not
certain.
if you have a copy of watershed: ten years of underground video it's on
there. it shows the girls rehearsing it along with jane (?)
and if you don't have watershed, it's well wort obtaining imho.

howdy ya'll,
juliana here, a relative newbie-not even a fan for a year, never seen a
concert-but i've actually met amy! oh, it's such a tragedy and such a joy!
well, i live in wi, and a duo on daemon named mrs. fun-heard anything from
them?-plays up here still sometimes, and just happened to at the local coffee
house in my small town one night.
i went to go and see them, it was pretty late, and a group of us were crashed
on couches drinking coffee and digging the new-agey jazz music getting played
up front. during a break in the set a chick with dark hair and eyes started
wandering around the coffee house and a few people stood up and shook hands
with her when she came near them, obviously recognizing her. i had *no* idea
who she was, barely knew who the indigo girls were, didn't know their work.
anyway, one of the girls in the group i was sitting in recognized amy and
stood up as she walked passed and amy stopped to speak with her for a moment.
i got the idea that she was a musician and was hear because of mrs. fun, and
that they were heading down to milwaukee the next day, yada yada yada.
another girl reached to shake her hand and then i looked up and actually
shook her hand as well. we shared a smile and amy went wandering back off
somewhere else.
i had *no* idea whom i'd just met, and was only interested in the fact that
she had one helluva low voice! she seemed intriguing, and to be honest, i
was surprised to see someone in the coffee house over thirty. it was a
wonderful moment in the fact that i was completely calm and didn't make any
sort of fool of myself, but horrid because i couldn't appreciate it like i
could now!!! argh, the fates were really messin' with me that day! six
months later i would have nearly died to have met her! anyway, back to
lurkin'!
oh, on a side-note though, i went to get a cushion for a chair i'd bought at
pier one yesterday, and *just* as i entered what should start up
simultaneously? "power of two"! i stood there kinda dumb-founded for a
moment until a clerk asked me if i needed any help. i wanted to ask if she
had any amy in stock, but thought better of it. <g> peace and love ya'll!

so i was on my way home with my g/f last night and right at the stroke of
midnight, (my birthday by the way), amy's voice came on the radio, our first
listen to moment of forgiveness!!!! what a great birthday present!
the song is great, though we spent so much time screaming that it was on i
think we missed some of it. it sounds great and the dj at 92.5 the river,
loved it.
they played it again today but we missed it, if we had only left the gym 5
minutes earlier! again the dj recalled the song as that "awesome new ig
song"!
can't wait for the album!
have a great night!

not worth buying on ebay, but, <ahem> if it showed up on winmx or something...
(missing being a college journalist.)

that is so cool. i'm a big gaiman fan, but i haven't read "american gods
yet. now i have another reason to read it. if anyone ever wants to discuss
gaiman's work, count me in.
ig are also mentioned in stephen king's "rose madder" but y'all probably
knew that. i think it's one of his best.
cheers all,
tom

you think that was bad........
i met them about 5 years ago before a show in harrisburg and the only
thing i could say to amy was "can i touch you or something?" i almost
shot myself! amy was very nice though and stood there for a while with
me while i just tried to catch my breath. it was sweet...she just stood
there with a smile on her face. but the cool thing about it was that at
the lilith fair about 9 months later they were on stage thanking their
fans and amy said that she would never forget "the girl from
harrisburg" who she called "very sweet"!!

subject: compilation of "become you" songs
mime-version: 1.0
content-type: text/plain; format=flowed
hi all,
the moment that you have been waiting for :o), well i am pretty excited. if
you go to www.ig.rocks.it.com <http://www.ig.rocks.it.com/> you can download 9 out of 12 songs for the
upcoming "become you" release. i can't believe between all of us, that we
actually have that many!!!!! i am so excited!!! we are still missing "hope
alone", "collecting you", and "trust", so if anyone boots upcoming shows and
gets these songs, please try to add them to the collection, you can contact
me and we will figure out the easiest way to get them included.
i have a feeling that there will be a lot of people who need to do a b&p on
the "become you" cd, and along with it i would like to offer up another cd.
a while back, i took tracks from compilation cds, or cds that had guest
spots by one of the girls, and the bonus tracks from all of the remastered
ig albums and put them all onto one cd. i don't have the track list with
me, but it is a pretty cool cd.
so i would like to get a boot tree started. i like the idea of doing this
by the month you were born. so i am thinking that i need 5 volunteers to
help me distribute these two cds.
ok, that's it. hope everyone enjoys all of this wonderful music.
traci
oh, and a big thanks to miriam (with the hat!) for letting us use her
site!!!!! and to anyone who added music to the list of mp3s that we will
all be listening to.

you can add to that wally lamb's "for this i know is true" - a wonderfully
awesome
(though bulky 900 pages) book.
