hi all,
the only thing wrong with the ig.rocks.it website is that we are all
accessing it at the same time. so be patient, you will get through sooner
or later. there are a lot of us and it can only handle so many people
downloading at one time.
:o)
i guess you were anxious to get these songs!!!!

the songs are not downloading all the way. it is telling me that my download

problem? is this due to high traffic on the site? i would appreciate if

tickets for indigo girls at bowery ballroom (feb 26 2002) just went on sale via ticketweb at www.ticketweb.com <http://www.ticketweb.com/>.
i had problems ordering when i clicked on bowery ballroom- i suggest typing "indigo girls" into the keyword search (make =

anybody know what capacity is at the bowery ballroom? has anybody been?
i remember there was some issue a while back (maybe during the stag tour) about
whether a particular show was at the bowery or the bowery ballroom. i don't
recall which it was, though, so needless to say that recollection is
useless....

hey kind friends!!!
i am so there!!!!
i saw amy and the butchies when they passed on by. it was awesome. i remember from that night... first, that the butchies are really very good, and that little blonde singer of theirs has an amazing stage presence. you can really tell that she loves being up there.
second was when amy sang lazy-boy, the entire club was compleatly silent. no whoo's, no yeah's no "amy, i love you"'s, just total and utter silence enbracing the words, the notes and the voice of amy ray...
as for the ballroom it self, it's definitly....intimate
see ya all at the show,

hiya,
with less than 2 weeks before the start of the uk ig tour, i thought it
would be nice to see if anyone out there is interested in meeting up
before the show in dublin. as that one has assigned seating, we won't
have to worry about holding our spaces in the queue/line for the show
and can have a lovely dinner first. we haven't decided which restaurant
yet, but that will most likely be determined by the numbers of
interested parties. we're thinking of meeting up around 5pm.
let me know if you're interested.

acording to indigogirls.com it's a 'students only' show. whether that means

neil answered this pretty well, if it is a students only show - ask a
student for a ticket - more often then not - most college ig shows are
fairly easy to get into. there are exceptions - some colleges are
extremely restrictive around shows - have the ig played drew before?
sometimes it is advertised as students only - (the last colby show was
listed on the web site as students only - yet didnt sell out. and tixs were
available at a local music chain - yet unless you lived in maine - it would
have been nearly impossible to find that out...)
but they are playing in philly and nyc the day after and before...
...hoping for a maine show, tho boston will suffice.

thanks! i'll be in sf in mid-feb on business,

tickets from virtuous are never mailed, they're always will call.
yes, slims has two lines - one line for those with real tickets in hand,
and one line for everybody else, such as will call, or those "virtual"
tickets from "virtuous". tickets you buy from virtuous are not real,
you're just put on a "virtual guest list". slims usually opens the
will call box office line about the same time they open the doors,
but the will call line moves much slower, because people are paying
for tickets, etc...so people with tickets "in hand" get in first.
the only way i know to get real tickets for slims shows is to buy
them from the slims box office; hours are m-f, 10:30am-6pm.
slim's box office is closed on weekends except during a show.

it means ticketweb's allotment is sold out.
the bowery ballroom kept a portion of their tickets to sell
at their box office, but those are *also* sold out; their
web site <<http://www.boweryballroom.com/>> lists the show
as completely sold out.
they sometimes release a few extra tickets on the night of the show,
but that's a long way for you to drive for such a risky gamble. :-)

hey folks,
here's the rolling stone article that jason mentioned. if you
want to read it online, it's at
<http://www.rollingstone.com/news/newsarticle.asp?nid=15247>.
-sherlyn
---begin forwarded article---
indigo girls get back to basics
ray and saliers true to acoustic roots on "become you"
when indigo girls amy ray and emily saliers sat down to discuss
writing their new record, become you, they agreed that it was
time to stash the distortion pedals and snare drums from their
last lp -- 1999's come on social -- in favor of some rootsier
fare. "before we started the record, the main issue i had was i
wanted to get back to basics and make an acoustic record," ray
says. "i wasn't even thinking about drums. i was thinking,
'let's make arrangements that work with a lot of guitar
interplay and vocal interplay that really work in an acoustic
way.'"
slated for release on march 12th, become you features songs
like "yield" and "nuevas senoritas" that ray stockpiled over
the years in anticipation of another acoustic indigo girls
album, and newer tunes, like the shuffling "starkville." the
album also features a variety of styles, from the soul-flavored
"moment of forgiveness," to the bluesy bent of "bitter root."
"'moment of forgiveness' is this weird song that came out of
nowhere for me four years ago in the dressing room of some
place we were playing, and i never really knew quite how to
treat it," ray says. "the keyboard player in our band, carol
isaacs, came up with that riff at the beginning, and sort of
set the tone for the whole thing."
after more than fifteen years in the indigo girls, ray says that
the time she spent making and touring behind her solo record
helped to keep things interesting.
"i definitely needed to break off and do something that was very
autonomous, just to help myself get away and have this other space
i could go," she says. "it's a different kind of validation. with
my own thing i toured alone and i had to do everything by myself.
it was all about the music and much more self-motivated. i think
that helped me because then i can go back to indigo girls and
feel fresh about that and remember what's important."
ray and saliers typically write songs independently, but this time,
while recording at tree sound studios in norcross, georgia, they
broke the mold.
"we kind of traded off instruments on this record," ray says. "i
would be in the middle of a lead on mandolin and i'd be like, 'i
can't figure out where to go from here,' and she'd just take it
from me and play the rest of it. we've never done that before."
the indigo girls have lined up a string of club dates in advance
of become you. the are as follows:
2/11: boulder, co, fox theatre
2/13: seattle, crocodile
2/14: portland, or, aladdin
2/15: san francisco, slim's
2/18: los angeles, the knitting factory
2/21: austin, tx, mercury
2/22: dallas, sons of hermann hall
2/24: nashville, 3rd & lindsley
2/25: atlanta, tba
2/26: new york city, bowery ballroom
2/27: philadelphia, theater of living arts
2/28: madison, nj, drew university
3/1: boston, paradise
3/3: buffalo, ny, university of bufflao
3/4: ottawa, ont, tba
3/5: toronto, ont, lee's palace

checking out the drew website, i have noticed that 28 feb -- the day of the
ig show -- is v-day on the drew campus, and i'm guessing that the ig show is
going to be billed as part of the event (at least unofficially). it will,
therefore, probably be a bit harder than usual for a non-student to get a
ticket.

would be nice to see if anyone out there is interested in meeting up
before the show in dublin. as that one has assigned seating, we won't
have to worry about holding our spaces in the queue/line for the show
and can have a lovely dinner first. we haven't decided which restaurant
yet, but that will most likely be determined by the numbers of
interested parties. we're thinking of meeting up around 5pm.

one question, though. at the amy ray and the butchies show at slims those who
ordered online had to stay in a different line to pick up the tickets,
therefore pretty much blowing any chance of being up front. are the tickets

one question, though. at the amy ray and the butchies show at slims those who ordered online had to stay in a different line to pick up the tickets, therefore pretty much blowing any chance of being up front. are the tickets mailed? or is it a will call situation?
thanks!

there's a new intro at indigogirls.com with some nice purples and a
cover of what (i guess) is the new single (although i'd love it if it
were the cover of the new album).
there's also an additional page that has the tour dates formally
listed: <http://www.indigogirls.com/ig_2002nadates.html>

neil answered this pretty well, if it is a students only show - ask a
student for a ticket - more often then not - most college ig shows are
fairly easy to get into. there are exceptions - some colleges are
extremely restrictive around shows - have the ig played drew before?
sometimes it is advertised as students only - (the last colby show was
listed on the web site as students only - yet didnt sell out. and tixs were
available at a local music chain - yet unless you lived in maine - it would
have been nearly impossible to find that out...)
but they are playing in philly and nyc the day after and before...
...hoping for a maine show, tho boston will suffice.

tickets from virtuous are never mailed, they're always will call.
yes, slims has two lines - one line for those with real tickets in hand,
and one line for everybody else, such as will call, or those "virtual"
tickets from "virtuous". tickets you buy from virtuous are not real,
you're just put on a "virtual guest list". slims usually opens the
will call box office line about the same time they open the doors,
but the will call line moves much slower, because people are paying
for tickets, etc...so people with tickets "in hand" get in first.
the only way i know to get real tickets for slims shows is to buy
them from the slims box office; hours are m-f, 10:30am-6pm.
slim's box office is closed on weekends except during a show.

i don't know if this applies to this particular show, but some pre-sales
go through artistdirect which i know the ig sell merchandise through.
personally i think artist direct is a lousy place to shop but thats a
side-point. anyway, for example on the last rage against the machine
tour. to get tickets in the pre-sale, you sign up for the artistdirect
mailing list and it gives you the code. like i said i don't know if that
applies here but you might check. also since this is at a university,
pre-sale may only be available for students. good luck - todd

to miriam (with the hat) and all who contributed to the compilation of
songs from the new album at <http://www.ig.rocks.it/>
a huge thank you to everyone who helped put this compilation together.
i've been listening to the girls music for the best part of fifteen
years now, ever since a friend of mine came back from america and gave
me a loan of the self titled album. i played his copy to death and then
bought my own. i've been buying their albums ever since.
i have never seen them live but that will be put right in two weeks time
here in dublin, ireland. to say that i'm excited is an understatement.
being familiar with the songs from the new album is a great help and you
guys are now my heroes. it sounds like it's a great album and my
personal favorites are become you, deconstruction, starkville and moment
of forgiveness.
i will now retreat back into lurk mode !!
thank y'all
jim

to miriam (with the hat) and all who contributed to the = compilation of songs from the new album at http://www.ig.rocks.it/ <3d></= span
a huge thank you to everyone who helped put this compilation = together.
i've been listening to the girls = music for the best part of fifteen
years now, ever since a = friend of mine came back from = america and gave
me a loan of the self = titled album. i played his copy to death and then
bought my own. i've been = buying their albums ever since.
i have never seen them live but that will be put right in two = weeks time
here in = dublin, ireland. to say = that i'm excited is an understatement.
being familiar with the songs from the new album is a great help = and you
guys are now my heroes. = it sounds like it's a great album and my
personal favorites are = become you, deconstruction, = starkville and moment
of forgiveness. =
i will now retreat back into lurk mode = !!
thank y'all

hey y'all,
sorry to seem patronizing, but is there going to be a b&p for the
compilation of songs on become you? i'm at a school where there is a 2 mb
download limit (ahh, that is the worst restriction ever!) so i can't access
the songs. granted, i have half of them, but it would be great to have them
all in one place. i'm sure there are people like me lurking on this list.
hate to sound whiny with a "help me out here!" since i only have to wait two
months for the real thing. wasn't there something being put together?
also, anyone know how to get the list of radio stations that have moment of
forgiveness? russell said he would make it available (i say his name as if i
know him) so we can bug them...i haven't heard the album version yet!
(needless to say i hit the 'refresh' button over and over on the website!)
a big thanks to everyone....i'm hoping to be able to catch them at least
twice this summer 'cause i can't make any of the club shows.

howdy ya'll,
i hate to sound like a newbie, but lets face it, i am.
i was wondering what the purple parrot boot consisted

this one. so if someone either onlist or off could
let me know the haps on this boot, i'd really
appreciate it! peace and love.

woah! what happened? i heard a rumor that kfog reserved a batch for their registered listeners. and last week virtuous had a pre-sale (thank goodness i got mine then. i should have bought extras. i know a bunch of people w/o tickets)
anyway, it looks like there are a lot of folks out there looking for tickets. my advice is (if you're local) show up at the venue. there are almost always extra tickets (they might release more, or people may have some to sell).
here is a question for those of you with tickets. did anyone get real paper tickets? because matt and i have "virtual" tickets, which means we'll need to stand in line at will-call. did they issue any paper tickets?
thanks in advance,
karen :-)

whether or not tm is going to be seeling tickets, tla is selling the tickets
directly, and their fees are lower ($2.50 phone charge, and that's it.) tickets
go on sale on friday, i think at noon - that's when their box office opens,
anyway. the folks at the box office told me capacity is 810 standing room only,
so make sure to call that very day.

p.s. and if you're close enough to come see ig play, you are definitely close
enough to come see deirdre flint when she plays a house concert for us on feb.
2nd. she's the funniest thing since christine lavin, and for only $10 you can
see her in a venue *even smaller* than the tla - our living room! seating
capacity 35. email me for details. you know you want to.

well, i've pretty much given up hope, since it seems like there are so many people without tickets that are looking for some...but my request is still on the table...money, boots, pictures, t shirt...for two tickets...i'm desperate here. i thought about just going and trying to buy some the night of the show, but driving six hours from arcata to camp out in line not even knowing if we can get in doesn't sound too appealing...so anyway, my point is, is there at least someone out there than can give all of us ticketless people a glimmer of hope and boot the show??? that would be the next best thing i suppose. and there's still hope when the college tour rolls around. thanks everybody.

i have a friend with tickets, and i *know* he'll be taping.
i can't guarantee he'll have time to *tree* it, but i know
he'd be perfectly happy to provide the seed for someone
else who's willing to manage the tree.

my brother sent this to me. for those of us who collect articles on the =

it's my stepdaughter's fault.=20
despite a lifetime of messing with computers, i had only dabbled with =
downloading music, just to see how it worked.=20
it seemed more like a pastime for those with spiked hair and pierced =
ears, not for a guy five years more than a half-century old. but when =
strange sounds -- somewhat akin to music -- began echoing out of erin's =
room, i got curious.
i was able to download the software i needed from the web. it installed =
at the click of a mouse and, within a few minutes, i was connected to =
what seemed like the world's biggest music store, where everything is =
free.=20
i started by using aimster, one of the many download services. then =
aimster led to morpheus, another service, and i was soon living =
somewhere between nerdland and a musical birdland.=20
what i found was a shock in many ways.=20
for one thing, i was able to find the kind of music i like -- old folks' =
stuff -- just as easily as she can locate songs from some garage band. =
whether it was edith piaf or frank sinatra or ella fitzgerald, almost =
every song i had ever heard was online.=20
with the speed of my dsl connection, i could find a song, download it =
and create a cd that plays in my car or home stereo within minutes. even =
the process of finding the songs was fun and a little like fishing. i am =
still looking for louis prima's recording of "shadrack," and the search =
has been so much fun i'll almost be sorry when i find it.=20
along the way, i ended up downloading -- by mistake at first -- songs i =
would have never purchased. all of a sudden i was listening to drop kick =
murphy, or the tractors, instead of just ella and frank. admittedly, =
that would still be middle-of-the-road stuff by erin's lights. but for =
me, a lover of cowboy tunes, jazz and big-band music, it was as out of =
character as getting my navel pierced or joining a commune. i felt =
smugly hip for the first time since the days when i owned a nehru jacket =
and a medallion.=20
to my ears, my homemade recordings seem to have the same fidelity as the =
cds i purchase. technically, that's not true. to make the music files =
more compact, they're most often recorded in a format called mp3 that =
digitally compresses the file. the smaller-sized file makes for a faster =
download. the sound is almost, but not quite, cd-quality. however, with =
my middle-aged hearing, there seems no difference at all.=20
did my online recording habits influence my cd-buying habits? the truth =
is that before i started i bought only 12 or so cds a year. that number =
isn't likely to change based on what i do online.=20
however, as a person who writes for a living, i face a really personal =
ethical question. since i earn a living based on creating stories -- =
both for the newspaper and occasionally as free-lance projects to =
provide added income -- it's easy to feel like a hypocrite. after all, i =
produce intellectual property, too. and i wouldn't want someone ripping =
it off.=20
i understand the arguments of those who say that passing along free =
copies of a song is just another form of advertising. and i believe that =
-- at worst -- downloading music doesn't change buying habits at all. at =
best, it introduces consumers to new music they'll eventually buy and =
spurs sales.=20
for myself, i was encouraged by something that amy ray, part of the =
music group the indigo girls, said at a seminar about downloading held a =
few months ago at emory university.=20
she was asked if she downloaded music herself. her answer:=20
"yes, and please download my music. then come to the show."=20

bye, bye, guys?
men may soon be cut out of the equation when it comes to making babies. a
revolutionary new fertility technique is being developed that would make it
possible for two women to have kids that share both their genes. doctors would
treat cells taken from one woman, turning them into artificial sperm to
fertilize the other woman's eggs. researchers at the reproductive genetics
institute in chicago said the process, now being tested on human eggs, could
be available within two years.

bye, bye, guys?
men may soon be cut out of the equation when it comes to making babies. a
revolutionary new fertility technique is being developed that would make it
possible for two women to have kids that share both their genes. doctors would
treat cells taken from one woman, turning them into artificial sperm to
fertilize the other woman's eggs. researchers at the reproductive genetics
institute in chicago said the process, now being tested on human eggs, could
be available within two years.

i'm sorry to hear this. although it may be possible to eliminate men from
the "making babies equation", men are essential in raising those babies.
kids need both a father and a mother.

uhhh... how about a loving parent or parents? it does not necesarily need to
be one male and one female. just as long as that child is loved...
back to lurking.
oh, igc... i called slim's today. they claim that they're all gone. but i
still wouldn't believe that. i am keeping my eyes out for extras (i owe
someone a ticket, i was supposed to buy it yesterday, but they sold out).
also, listen to kfog. they may have some to give away...
and no one ever answered my question... did everyone get virtual tickets, or
did anyone get paper tickets? matt and i have the virtual ones, and so do
everyone we know.
ok.. that was more igc than nigc...

i'd have to put a vote in for "go" because of the lines:
"feed the fire / and fan the flame /i know you kids can stand the rain
i know the kids are still upsetters /'cause rock is cool but the struggle
is better / go go go"
maybe ar likes the underdogs? new england and philly?
---n., and of course, if one only looks at titles "cold beer and remote
control"...

following is the text of the article that was requested.
have a good night-michelle
indigo girls' new studio album become you
by mi2n newswire
new york, jan. 15 -- epic records is proud to announce the march 12 release
of the indigo girls' eighth studio album become you, arguably the best work
of their remarkable two-decade career. become you blends 12 beautifully
constructed folk-pop songs that show off the indigos' contrasting but
complimentary songwriting styles. to celebrate the new release, the girls
have planned an intimate acoustic duo promotional club tour, which begins on
february 11.
the 12 songs that comprise become you are evenly divided between amy and
emily's compositions. the album was produced by peter collins, producer of
the indigo girls' 1992 platinum album rites of passage and the 1994
grammy-nominated swamp ophelia, and mixed by bob clearmountain, who has
worked with the likes of bruce springsteen, shelby lynn, and rufus
wainwright.
the indigo girls also turned to their versatile touring group: carol isaacs
(hammond b-3, wurlitzer, piano, accordion, penny whistle, recorder,
percussion), clare kenny (acoustic and electric bass), and brady blade
(drums and percussion), to round out the album's sound.
become you was recorded in the indigo girls' hometown of atlanta, georgia,
and leads off with the first single "moment of forgiveness," a simple,
open-hearted melodic song of reconciliation. other songs include the album's
title track "become you," "deconstruction," "our deliverance," and
"collecting you," which are reflections of personal evolution and approach
to life, reminiscent to the simplicity of indigos' early work.
