the same thing happened for the boston show. i called them everyday for two
weeks. everyday, they told me that had no knowledge of the show even being
booked.
i called russell carter management, and they confirmed that they really were
going to be playing at the paradise in boston. so, they basically told me
that sometimes the promoters of the shows are ahead of the venues as far as
advertising etc. the venues do very little to promote this stuff... or so
said the guy at russell carter management. :-)
hope that helps.
(as we all know, someone obviously figured out that something was going on
in boston on march 1st... as the tickets sold out! :-)
good luck,
jenn

howdy guys,
well, i got in contact with the orpheum theater in
madison, wi, where the girls are scheduled to play on
the 20 march, and i find that the orpheum has not had
anyone call them to book this date, and had no
knowledge that it was going on in the first place. so
now i'm left wondering what to do, or if the date will
remain or if they are even actually coming to wi. if
anyone has any addresses to someone involved in
booking or tour information in general involved with
the girls, would you mind sending it to me offlist,
i'd like to get to the bottom of this! thanks *very*
much, peace and love!

i screwed up. i thought i was ordering drew u tix from ticketmaster, and
when they arrived ups yesterday, they were for the university of buffalo. it
is about 8 hours away from me, but i am considering a road trip. however, i
ordered 6 tickets, and i will probably only use 2 at the most. the face
value is 29.50. i believe they are orchestra row p. with all the charges,
and postage, i paid $220.00 for all 6, which comes to about $36.00 per
ticket. if anyone is interested, let me know.

just wanted to mention a great book that some of you might be interested in by
hilary lapsley called "margaret mead and ruth benedict: the kinship of women".
it is written by a former women's studies professor from new zealand who does a
really nice psychoanalysis of the relationship between benedict and mead, both
personally and professionally. for those of you who are unfamiliar with ruth
benedict, she was "the" leading pioneer of the culture and personality school
in cultural anthropology, that championed cultural relativity, from the 1920s
til her death in 1948. her writings greatly influenced both social thought in
this country and us foreign policy toward other countries after wwii. she was
one of the early leading advocates that homosexuality was not a disease and
that social backlash and one's own guilt toward alternative lifestyles is due
to ones culture. as a feminist she sought not to change public opinion through
political activism, but through her writings, targeting the masses as well as
the academic intellectuals.

for all the librarians on the list:
in case you have not heard already from your colleagues returning from ala
midwinter, you might want to make sure you purchase a ticket to the
scholarship bash if you are planning on attending ala this summer. a
certain duo will be performing as a part of this event. the tickets are
general admission, and there was some concern that they might sell out, so
make sure you get them soon.
i'm rather jealous of my colleagues who attended ala midwinter - they
received an ig t-shirt with their ticket purchase!

well you guys, here is my story:
i got up this morning and drove 3 hours to get tickets for the nashville

already a sold out sign on the front door. ya'll, i just sat there and
boo-hooed on the curb. i am heartbroken. i don't know why i thought i could
get tickets and not camp out all night. i thought i was getting there right

going to get to see them this time around, and am as blue as i can be. so,

tickets for the feb. 11 boulder show sold out in like 5-10 minutes. you had
to have a password to get tix through ticketmaster. some freaking moron at
kbco put up the wrong password on the site, so i almost didn't get tickets.
luckily i went back and refreshed the page and got the right password, but
i'm sure there are a lot of very angry people who didn't get tix.
kbco also announced that the girls will record a session of e-town at the
boulder theatre on feb. 12 - it will be a matinee show in the afternoon.
tickets supposedly go on sale tomrrow, but there isn't any information
posted on their web site yet. hopefully i'll make that show too! :)

i tried to get 2 tickets for my friend, but found out she only wanted 1. i
got through the whole password fiasco, got 2 tickets, then stupidly
cancelled the order to just get one. i reordered immed. and they were
gone! unbelievable!
thank god, i called fox theater a couple weeks ago and they were selling
tix (as a mistake according to kbco), so i have mine. whew!
craziness...

the other night i went and saw kristen hall at eddie's attic. she was
talking about how she and some people are starting a new band where they're
covering old songs but turning them into country songs. she then said they
were jokingly taking about doing parodies, weird al style. "you know, like
'up on the waterbed.'"

first the igc. no, never mind, i can't think of any.
now some nigc for all you philadelphians out there:
dude. y'all. i *know* there are dozens of people on this list in comfortable
driving distance of philadelphia, and of all of them, so far only the
redoubtable neil is planning attend the deirdre flint show we're hosting on
saturday. and me, of course. we'll also be at the darryl purpose show at neil's
house on friday, and though i don't have the inside line on that one i suspect
our little list is missing out on that one, too. people, there's good music in
the offing this weekend! two nights of amazing music, in venues so small they
make the tla look like madison square garden. two chances to support hi-quality
independent music! two chances to meet listmates! check it out.
friday, feb 1st - darryl purpose
