they did jonas and ezekial. emily only played guitar, no vocals. i don't
think she knew them, yet. and yeah, i think amy had cut off (long) shorts on.
they also did an obscure (at least i didn't know it), very countrified stones
song as an entire group. amy, emily, nanci g., mary-chapin, julie gold,
etc...
julie gold also did a hysterical little song at the piano about her "ordinary
life."
hope this helps to solve the mystery.

the "obscure " and "countrified" rolling stone song is "no
expectations." and you can find a
cover on joan baez:the first ten years, i don't know who else has
recorded it because i'm not
a big stones fan. but nanci griffith did it at one of her shows, good
song.

from today's atlanta journal constitution...as a candler graduate, it makes me smile! :)
from the pen of an indigo, dad
indigo girl emily saliers and dad don, who holds a chair in worship and liturgy at emory university's candler school of theology, have signed a book contract with publisher jossey-bass to write about their mutual passion. the tentative title is "saturday night and sunday morning -- our lives in music."
"emily's going to tell her story of where music has taken her -- from the berlin wall to the bedsides of dying hospital patients. my part's going to be 'white guy in church, who's also been in a few bars,'" says don, who worked his way through college playing jazz clubs.
they'll also record some conversations they've shared about music. they hope to have a draft of the book ready for editing by next spring. emily is currently on european tour with musical partner amy ray.

as far as i can tell from the austin city limits webpage, the girls were on the program twice:
1992 "songwriters special" <http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/artists/program393.html>
indigo girls:
"got no expectations"
"hammer and a nail"
"jonas ezekial"
"fare thee well"
recorded: 1991
looks like everybody that night performed on "got no expectations" which, as far as i can tell, is a song from the rollin=
g stones' album "beggars banquet."
they were also on 2/28/98:
<http://www.pbs.org/klru/austin/artists/program64.html>
shame on you
bad reputation (with freedy johnston)
baby don't you break my heart slow (with vonda shepard)
why don't you leave my sister alone? (with mark eitzel)
get out the map (with guests)
closer to fine (with guests)
recorded: 12/18/2005 (although hey, i think that date is incorrect.)

"what would you people do without me?" -fred flintstone
indigo girls were on austin city limits twice. their first appearance was taped just after they had recorded "rites of passage" back in late 1991. the show aired in '92. that episode was called a "songwriter's showcase" and it had along with ig, nanci griffiths, mary chapin-carpenter and julie gold, who wrote "wind beneath my wings." that show ended with ig and the others jamming on the rolling stones song, "no expectations."
their second appearance was during the promotional tour for "shaming of the sun" in 1996. that is the show that had freedy johnstone and vonda shepard. i personally liked the first show better.
anyway, i have the entire second episode and i have only the ig appearances from the first episode on tape. i have made copies of these shows for several list members over the years and i have no problem making copies again for anyone here who needs them. i could also add the recent performances on the oxygen and cbs networks as well. someone here was kind enough to send them to me.
please give me some time to put a tape together and when i am ready, i will post a notice to this board on how you could get the video.
for those of you who are waiting for me to send them girlfriends magazine, if i have emailed you, your magazines have been sent. if i have not emailed you yet, i'm still trying to score enough issues. i may have to turn many of you down, depending on how many i can find. i will email all of you either way, however.

i wish i'd known that when i bought the tickets, i would have gotten
tickets elsewhere. last year when someone "joined the bill" at the
mann, rose polenzani opened and a band local to philly that i can't
recall the name of from amy's label "joined the bill". while i enjoyed
their performances, we ended up with only a 45 minute set by ig, which
was who we were really there to see.
it's nothing against k's choice, but i really wanted a full evening of
ig music.

howdy ya'll,
i'm posing this to the whole list, just out of
speculation. i've heard a couple of explinations in
interviews with amy on the reasoning behind the name
"johnny rottentale", one of which dealt with a mean
cat she owns (or owned), and the other i can't quite
remember, but it didn't touch on what i'm questioning.
i was just in the car and heard the neil young song
"hey, hey, my, my" and in it he mentions a one "johnny
rotten" and i was just wondering if there was any
connection. i know she's admitted a connection to the
song "the needle and the damage done" to "pushing the
needle too far" but since i'm not a neil young fan
exactly i dunno if anyone knows if she titled "jr"
with the intent of having it refer at all back to
"h,h,m,m". anyone's speculation is welcome! peace
and love.

i am so excited that my friend went in person to get us tickets for the
minneapolis show. we got main floor row g. so that is 7 rows back. i am
super excited! i was on-line at the same time and the best seats that tb
would give me was upper balcony! i am excited to go. wow, tickets are
going really fast though. i hope everyone who wanted them got good seats!

i went in person to tb at 12 noon which was supposed to be when they go

get this ..for 42 bucks i am in row w....that is the worst seat i have
ever had in six years!
how did you guys get such such a good deal and how can i possibly get
front row section....i have tried for box seats for years and honestly
thought if i showed up in person at noon i would get a good seat.
at this point i would pay at least $80 and more for a pair to anyone who
got tickets and cannot go.
was there a presale yesterday?
how do i get in on those?

let me tell ya a little something about concert tickets lately. if it's
general admission, fine. then it's every fan for his or herself depending
on how early you get to the venue.
what i've noticed lately is that when you wanna purchase tickets through
ticketbastard is that they choose random seating, not first available,
regardless of what time you call before it sells out. i'd rather go
through the trouble of getting to a venue early and being less than two
feet from the stage than sit in the very back even though i was on the
phone right when tickets were being sold. i know they're trying to be fair
for everyone or whatever b.s. they're trying to come up with, but i would
rather it be first come first serve. maybe their computers aren't up to
par, but in this day and age of technological advances you think they would
be able to get their crud together.
anyway. that's just my two cents. take it where you will or don't take it
at all. :)
speaking of stress...have to leave work early and take cat to vet. thank
goodness i got everything done on time at work.

updated 15:09 pdt fri, may 03 2002<a href="<http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?by=artist&content=kschoi&key=y>">k's choice</a> are headed back to north america
for the first time since their appearances at lilith fair in 1999. now in the
support slot for <a href="<http://www.pollstar.com/tour/searchall.pl?by=artist&content=indgir&key=y>">indigo girls</a>, k's choice will stay on this side of the pond
may 27 through june 15, catching the girls' east coast shows.
the band is fresh off a 32-date trek across europe. they've been busy
supporting their fourth album, almost happy, which was released in september
2000 in europe. almost happy hits north american shelves may 7 and will be
accompanied by a special live disc of recorded concerts from belgium,
holland, france, and germany during 2001. the live disc features songs from
the group's first three albums.
k's choice have enjoyed widespread success in their homeland and throughout
europe. the band's debut, the great subconscious club, was released under the
name the choice in 1993. the choice hit the road running the following year,
supporting groups like morphine, the proclaimers and the indigo girls in
europe and america.
while touring with the indigo girls in the states, the choice became k's
choice after another band claimed rights to the name. the "k" in the band's
name is taken from jozef k, the key protagonist in kafka's "the trial."
k's choice's follow-up album, paradise in me, spawned the international hit
single "not an addict." subsequently, k's choice were invited to join alanis
morissette on her north american stadium tour. they went on to support the
verve pipe and tonic.
while "not an addict" remains the song k's choice are best known for in the
states, they've certainly not dropped off the radar. steady gigs on several
lilith fairs have kept the band busy in the u.s. and they regularly tour
europe.

actually, the computer kicks out the best available seats -- the best
available *at the moment* you call. think about it: for at least a few
hours after tickets first go on sale, lots and lots of people are requesting
tickets. the computer kicks out the best available seats. the tickets it
kicks out at 12:01:15 are not available to the person who requests tickets
at 12:01:17, etc. but if any of those people elects not to buy the tickets
(or doesn't complete the transaction within 5 minutes), the tickets go back
to the pool. and so on and so on.

the austin city limits video is done.
it has four tunes from their first acl show, including the jam on "no expectations" originally performed by the rolling stones.
it then has the entire half hour segment from their second acl episode that features, imho, too many guest stars!
after that i have two performances of "moment of forgiveness" from the oxygen and cbs networks.
after that, i have a yearbook, a christmas hymn, a psa by amy, a lilith fair clip, some "peace tonight" and it ends with a trip to an island. what does all that mean? you'll have to watch the tape to find out!!
the tape lasts around an hour and if you want me to make you a copy, e-mail me privately. i'm asking that you send a blank vhs tape and a self-address stamped envelope.
