hmmmm...so vonda shepherd is opening for ig in berkely
and k's choice is opening in la. i don't know which 4h
event is opening for them at the orange county fair.
perhaps sheep shearing. it would fit in with the
stereotypical lesbian hair cuts.
oh well. i guess the butchies wouldn't fit in with
this album's "vibe" as well as they did cons, huh?
susan, rather disappointed....

05. she's saving me
06. oziline
07. collecting you

11. ghost
12. moment of forgiveness
13. get out the map

19. chickenman
=20
ps. if you want to hear it all again (or for the first time) check back
to my website often, it is bound to be on there in the near future.
a funny thing happend after the show, the security ppl saw my microphone
on my hat and took me aside, then asked me "is that a microphone" so i
said "yes", then they asked me if i recorded the show, and again i said
yes. they sort of looked funny at me for being that honest so i told
them that the artists were oke with ppl recording their shows. well
after that they asked me to wait with one of them while another went
backstage to "check with the artists". after a while they came back and
told me that indeed the artists had no problems with ppl recording their
shows, i might as well have had the microphone open in my hand is what
they (amy and emily) said. well i like to clap and have my hands free
during a concert so the hat is the best option for me ;-)

a quick note, and please excuse my language but last night so fucking
rocked !!!!!
the girls were awesome, the irish singer was amazing (and woo hoo to
seth), and the crowd was brilliant.
they seemed really chatty which was great and said they loved edinburgh
(go dun eidan !!!). emily said she had been to a tartan shop that day
and amy had been round some art galleries and loved the scottish stuff.
the quote to make the papers was when amy commented on the hall looking
like a church but they served beer inside, and if churches had been like
that when she was twelve she might have gone more often=20
i cant give you a run down of songs because i gave my setlist to the
nice person who gave me one of amy's strings, but they ended with
chickenman/bitteroot. cant wait to hear a boot !!!
completely without any permission, the review of the concert from the
edinburgh evening news.=3d=3d
=20
long may the indigo girls keep raining . .=20
simon mckenzie=20
indigo girls=20
the queen=92s hall=20
****
outside the queen=92s hall there was a downpour so torrential that randy
newman might have been moved to write a song about it had he been in
town, but the elements were powerless to dissuade the adoring legions of
indigo girls fans that soon had the old room bursting at the seams.=20
as the crowd dried off we were treated to the exceptional vocal talents
of austrian singer-songwriter pina, a young woman whose size belies her
ability to out-holler pearl jam=92s eddie vedder.=20
along with the occasionally over-the-top electric guitarist who
accompanies her, she still needs to learn a little restraint and has yet
to write a real standout song, but anyone interested to hear more can
see her at la belle angele supporting real world labelmate joseph arthur
at la belle angele this friday.=20
then the delightful cara dillon made dozens of new fans with her mix of
irish traditionals and lovelorn songs of sad introspection. however, she
was well aware that the fanatic crowd were politely hearing her out,
itching to hear the headliners.=20
when amy ray and emily saliers took to the stage they received the sort
of welcome that any artist would gladly give up thousands of hours of
radio airplay for. while this duo aren=92t exactly household names, the
households that do know them love them a great deal.=20
failing the odd string breaking - as one did during the tumultuous
protest song faye tucker (about a woman on death row) - there was little
that went wrong.=20
ray and saliers sing and play together so well that there is no
possibility of not getting a top-notch show. they are almost obliged to
throw in the celebratory closer to fine, the first song from their first
album way back in 1989, but it was testament to their continued
brilliance that the title track from their brand new album, become you,
outshines any other in the set.=20
both ray and saliers were intrigued with the architecture inside the
queen=92s hall, and were more than happy to play in what looks like a
temperance church while half the audience sip beer and wine.=20
"y=92know," said ray, "if church had been more like this i might have =
kept
going along when i was 12."

subject: ig in st. louis

hey all-
i have had an especially busy week at work and can't believe i missed
this, but i was driving to the post office with my year-old daughter about
an hour ago and heard a radio commercial for ig coming to st. louis on my
favorite radio station, which is also the one that sponsors their
appearances in st. louis. they will be here on tuesday, july 2.
so i got home, logged on to the ig site and sure enough, there it was. i
can't believe tickets went on sale wednesday (yesterday) and i missed it...i
called right away and got 19th row on the floor, center section. so i'm just
really happy we get to go and will have decent seats. we were on the phone
the minute tickets went on sale for two iowa shows in june of 2000, and i
think we got 11th and 13th row for those, so i didn't miss out too much.
i've never been way up front for any big concert, anyway, so i don't know
what i'm missing : )
this will likely be the only time i see ig on this tour, since we've
got a little one at home now (who was very amused when i was hollering,
trecie, the indigo girls are coming to st. louis all the way home from the
post office) so i'm just very happy to be able to mark the date on the
calendar and look forward to it.
so, is anyone from the list going to be there as well? we could meet
before for dinner or at least say hello before the show. let me know and
we'll see if we can't plan something : )
have a good night!
michelle

<< well, i live here in atlanta, and i have heard nothing about a show
in august.>>

and an opening act posted before they picked june with the ballette.
maybe they canceled it....damn. i can't make it r for the june shows
because my aunt that i haven't seen in five years is coming up right
around then.....pooh....and i really wanted to come too.

yap, that's right, i just found out tonight that the show has only six
weeks left......those who can't stand bill maher this is the best news
ever...unfortunately i am not among you, and will really miss him as off
the mark as he sometimes is, he did bring up issues that need addressing
in our society.
and besides that, he's the only one on late night tv that really is a
comedian....(unlike the boneheads on the four other late night shows who
think they're the funniest people around .)
okay so i'm being a little harsh on jay, craig, conan, and (especially)
dave. but i certainly hope we do not get another show like theirs, yet
sadly that seems to be the trend these days.
why is ole bill being cancelled? good question.. he really didn't say
tonight, accept well he probably pissed off one too many people with
his controversial political views.
i guess it was bound to happen sooner or later, i just rather it
happened a lot later than it did.

just a few quick "thank you's" going to some people...
lena and elaine : for your great organising skills : more specifically lena
for her great negotiating skills and elaine for her ability to organize a
queue in 20 seconds flat....
miriam and the rest of the netherlands fans : every show - my god......
claudine and jen - for dragging me from bristol to wolverhampton to
sheffield....
and everybody else that made this a great tour (way too many to mention....)
(i would try to get some tour reviews together, but i'm on the same indigo

you mean like the controversial political view of calling the guys and gals

cancel the show to put on the idiot from the man show is just flat out
wrong.

i hate the show - but seeing a taping of conan was a thrill...
pi had way too many anti- disability slurs to even get into - it is funny -
however - that i find out about the cancellation on a list that hasnt had
200 plus posting about bill maher a week..
and dave is funnier looking than jay, and ted koppel will do news better
than dave ever will.
but what do i know - i have some c-span show on now and i think i am going
to watch pbs soon

so indigo girls got a rather unflattering mention on snl this evening. on weekend update, tina fey was talking about how she wasn't a cute kid. she said, "i looked like a cross between that chick from the indigo girls...and that other chick from the indigo girls." harsh. i'm straight, and i still think amy's a goddess.

if the episode i am referring too was a repeat and previously discussed,
please forgive me.
wow is all i have to say. i am a big tina fey fan but she housed poor amy
and emily tonight. i can't remember ever hearing a mention of ig on
saturday night live until tonight. and what a beginning. i'll try to set
this up as i was half paying attention.
tina fey is ranting about all the pressure magazines and articles are
putting on women who have to choose between a career and having children.
she goes on about how she was a very ugly child and her baby pictures look
terrible. to illustrate this she states: i looked like a cross between
that one chick from indigo girls...<she pauses>...and that other chick from
indigo girls.
it was kind of humorous but my bias feels like saying--hey that was mean!
speaking of mean....i'm a huge bill maher fan and am devastated that his
show is being cancelled. i guess it's the price you pay for not being pc.
apparently america still needs everything to be sugar coated. people don't
like honesty when it hits so close to home so he gets canned. a shame i
say. have a good weekend everyone....greg

first off, i just have to point out that there were harsh jokes made
about a few dozen other people tonight and we're not crying about them.
and secondly, tina actually *is* one of the head writers (yes kids, some
women are actually making it in the comedy biz) and that joke in the
whole about professional women being pressured into having kids was
pretty smart.

i'm sure this has already been posted, but while watching snl's
weekend update, tina fey mentioned some anecdote (i was half asleep
so i don't remember the context) and was describing someone that was
apparently so ugly that they "looked like a cross between that one
girl from the indigo girls, and that other girl from the indigo
girls."
it got a pretty good laugh and i thought it was a pretty good joke
considering that the majority of the population probably doesn't know
what the indigo girls look like. of course, we all know that the
gals are beee-yoooou-tiful, so let's not blow this out of proportion
and start writing angry letters to snl, puh-leeeze. ;-)

the writers were probaly playing off on the "lesbians

stereotype, and the indigo girls are probaly the only
fairly well known duo out there who are out.

to unintentionally tie in the two recent threads here, i must go out on a
limb and be un-pc. i don't really see the snl writers as picking on
lesbians at all. i see them picking on the people who don't fit mainstream
america's view of what is attractive. let's be honest here. amy and emily,
while adorable in my mind, are hardly mainstream america's idea of physical
beauty. i don't see them gracing the covers of maxim or cosmo anytime soon.
most of america has one idea of physical beauty and ig don't fit that. so i
think the writers picked on this. a lesbian dis tie in? possibly, but more
imo, a dis on folks who aren't what most of the public considers cute (how's
that for avoiding the word ugly). personally, i could think of many other
references for ugly folk--hello, ozzy osbourne should be plenty...oh i'm
sorry he's exempt because apparently he is now the spokesman for family
values. bring back bill maher (who's also fairly ugly)!! i need a cynic on
tv!

that's too bad. i really like tina - i always thought she was cute!
and she was hired originally for her brains, not her looks - she was
hired as a writer, then promoted to head writer, the first head writer
that snl has ever had in its twenty-some odd year history. then
when "weekend update" was restructured they put her on the show,
going back to the original style with two anchors like they had in the
70's.

unfortunately, given that she's the head writer...she probably did write
it, or at least approved it.
>and really, amy and emily are so cute. i'm kinda glad i didn't catch snl.
totally. anyone who can't see that has a very narrow idea of what
beautiful is. emily is adorable and amy is sexy - i find them both
very attractive.

first of all, i love tina fey so that's a little sad but i will get over it.
more importantly:
help
i need to set up a website for the play the lesbian/feminist play i'm
staging, and while i have a web designer who's taking care of it, he's not a
pro, so he has never had to put up a stand alone site, meaning, he's always
been able to find soemone to host him. i know there are ways to set up free
websites but i really have no clue how to start. could someone please give me
some information, in really simple language cause i am just not a techno-geek
at all (and i mean techno-geek w/ awe not derision)
i've ehard stuff about deosites but then i heard you can't get a free
business site on geocites and since i'm advertising a play, i think that
would be a business thing, anyway, list people, don't fail me know. i have
about a week to get this set up.
information, anyone?
thanks!

to take greg flamer's idea one step further, i need to tie these two threads together.
i have not watched snl in years because i just don't laugh at it anymore. i may be dating myself, but i remember the original snl, the funny one! the modern one just does not hold up imho.
that said, the joke as repeated here "dissing" amy and emily made me laugh. if a joke makes me laugh it did it's job, whether the joke is mean, racist, sexist, homophobic or whatever. i credit a&e with unintentionally helping me do something i have not done in years; find some humor on snl! by the way, someone please tell me if the host winona ryder wore a "free winona" t-shirt, like she did on that mag cover. thanks!
about the pi show being cancelled, i find it slightly absurd that someone who was hired to be politically incorrect was fired for being politically incorrect. not a huge fan of the show but it is terrible how he gets dumped and a talk show that contributed to a homophobic murder (jenny jones) goes on and on.
snl at its best was politically incorrect and that's what was good about it. it could be pi and still be fresh and funny. i miss that. tv needs someone to question things once in a while, imho.
that sound you hear is me stepping off of my soapbox!
