ok, so i'm not awake enough to do a full review of the kbco rockfest at winter
park, co from yesterday. but i did want to mention a couple of my personal
highlights.
> deconstruction. damn that song is beautiful. and emily's voice soaring out
over the 10,000+ crowd in the mountains just made it all that much better.
> the b52s had performed eariler in the day and at the end of their set, kate
pierson yelled "we love the indigo girls!" it was good to see sara lee again
too!
> during closer to fine, sara lee ran out on stage in a crazy big hat and
played the pennywhistle part. emily points at her and says "that's my birthday
present ya'll!"
> sara and kate joined them on stage later for an amazing version of midnight
train to georgia. i'd never seen that live and it was awesome. kate did the
chorus. she rocks.
the sun was shining, the sky was blue and it was a gorgeous day. they played
tried to be true, which amy introduced with "this is an old one!" not my
favorite old one, but fun to hear.
at the end of faye tucker, amy yelled something like "______ on death row!"
anyone hear what the begining of that sentence was? she gets almost possessed
when she sings that song ... very cool.
the crowd was great. a good number of people split after jack johnson's set
before the girls came on ... they missed a great show!

-----------------------------------------------------------------=
---------------
introduction

[01]this is a brief interview, but some celebrities are very=
busy.
[02] most know this artist as half of the indigo girls, and over=
the course of
the last ten years, the indigo girls have sold over seven million=
albums
worldwide - including one double p latinum disc, three platinum,=
and four gold
- and earned six grammy award nominations. however, there is even=
more to amy
ray than immediately meets the eye. ms ray founded her own=
recording company
called deamon records specifically to aid and encourage new young=
artists, and
released her first solo album "stag" for many years she has=
worked to earn
herself a reputation as a formidable activist on behalf of the=
environment and
women's rights.
[03]she is also in many of the dreams of xenites (not to mention=
appearing in
some uber fan fiction as well), and she was nice enough to answer=
a few
questions for us. i read the answers and my first thought was=
that this is a
person in touch with her heart and feelings.
amy's head

interviewer:
[04]is there one part of the writing/singing/producing process=
where you
usually are stuck? what have you tried to change that, successful=
or not?
amy ray:
[05]nothing in particular, each song has its stumbling block. my=
biggest
obstacle is my limited guitar vocabulary. i have tried to=
concentrate on
writing a melody in my head that isn't dependent on guitar and=
then learning
the guitar that will match it.
interviewer:
[06]do fans expect too much from stars?
ray:
[07]it depends on the fan. it depends on the star. stars are just=
people. we
should expect nothing less or more than we expect from each=
other. i.e., a
"star" has the same responsibility to not be a hypocrite as=
anybody else has.
interviewer:
[08]what were your favorite book, tv show, and movie when you=
were a teenager?
ray:
[09]book: demian by hermann hesse.
tv: saturday night live.
film: clockwork orange.

interviewer:
[10]what is the most romantic thing anyone has done for you?
ray:
[11]made me a mix tape.
interviewer:
[12]you now have absolute authority over the world. omnipotent in=
all areas.
what is your first move?
ray:
[13]get rid of nuclear weapons.
interviewer:
[14]what is your favorite scifi?
ray:
[15]star trek: the next generation. this show artistically=
combined secular
humanism, science, and god/creator based spirituality. as in a=
lot of sci-fi,
star trek was a pioneer in tv that pushed socially=
conscious/revolutionary
ideas, i.e., religious tolerance, environmentalism, and combating=
racism and
sexism.
interviewer:
[16]if god gave you the ability to cure one disease, what would=
it be and why?
ray:
[17]cancer.
interviewer:
[18]who do you trust?
ray:
[19]my dogs.
interviewer:
[20]if you find a spider in the bathtub, do you help it out or=
squish it?
ray:
[21]help it out.
interviewer:
[22]do you believe in prayer?
ray:
[23]yes. it doesn't matter who you pray to, its good just for the=
stillness.
interviewer:
[24]what, if anything, can stop you writing/singing/producing, if=
only for a
while?
ray:
[25]a house/building project.
interviewer:
[26]what would your friends say is your worst trait?
ray:
[27]arrogance.
interviewer:
[28]what literary character did you most identify with as a=
child?
ray:
[29]the dog in ole yellar.
interviewer:
[30]what are the limits in sacrifices for true love?
ray:
[31]moving from my hometown.
interviewer:
[32]what advice can you give to future singers?
ray:
[33]start now.

just tried downloading them myself and it worked fine...:).
guess it must have been just the first few minutes after i posted that
everbody went there and my site's knees buckled;).
so, we'll be fine, if not everybody tries to get all the files at once.
maybe treat yourselves to one or two a day or something?

all,
i have a boot-tape collection of mostly indigo girls that i would like
to send off to whoever wants it. interested parties should contact me
via email. i'll send it off to the first one who responds. there are
17 tapes in all.
in order to receive the tapes you'll either have to drop by my
apartment in indianapolis, indiana or send a sase large enough to hold
the following tapes -- should be about shoe box sized, maybe a little
smaller. note that all boots are on cassette tape. no cd's.
i haven't lost my love for indigo girls. i'm just realizing how
little i listen to these tapes and how much more good they might do
for another.

i just checked the ig website and it said on 9/20 the venue was brown university, not pcpa like i think it said yesterday.
does anyone have any info on this? i'm kind of surprised, unless it's an error on the ig web people's part, because the pcpa box office people sounded like they were just waiting for a definite ticket sale date, not a show confirmation.

a word about meadowbrook ticketing:
call the box office before purchasing tickets from their online ticket
service. i went online promptly at 10 and requested a single ticket. the
only options made available to me were ga-lawn. i then requested 2 tickets
and lo and behold, a whole string of seat options from about row 5 and back
appeared. since i didn't really want 2 tickets i called the box office (now
it was about 10:10) and ended up with a single seat in the first row, emily
side.
there are lots of cool things to do in the area if you like nature. lots of
great places to hike, etc., its in the lakes region, which is a very
beautiful, low key area. the tourist season will have just ended so it
should be fairly easy to find a hotel/guest house in close proximity.

hi,
we just went to back to back shows at this venue, melissa etheridge & heart.
for melissa we had first row, and honestly it sucked! the stage is a 6 ft
concrete wall, so if you are short, like me you can't see very well, so being
about 20 rows back will be good, and overall it is a pretty good place to see
a show, it is not very big, my guess is about 2500 - 3000 people tops!
and there are a lot of hotels in the area 10 to 15 minutes in either
direction, and because it will be after the heavy tourist season, i am sure
you will have no trouble finding a hotel. here is a link to some places to
stay, good luck and have fun!!

well, the editing is done and i=92m ready to offer these shows for
trade/b&p. the source info is: dpa 4061 > sony m1 dat > cool edit
pro/soundforge > cd. i=92m not sure what the response for these will =
be,
so i think it would be best if everyone who responds picks 1-2 of the
shows, that way i=92ll be able to burn for more people=85all of the =
shows
came out well =96 very clear. here are a few specifics:
=20
eugene 7/12 : this one is the very best of the four. i was almost on
top of the speakers, and the crowd noise is low.
=20
portland 7/11: this was an indoor venue with very high ceilings which
made the sound echoey (is that a word?). sounds good, but a totally
different sound than the outdoor shows=85a very obnoxious woman stood
right beside me for most of the show and spent the night alternating
between screaming like a banshee and talking loudly to her friends. you
can hear her screaming her head off every now and then, but i don=92t
think that ruins the sound. it did, however, make me a little deaf in
my left ear for the remainder of the evening. i pasted vonda shepard and
emily=92s duet from vonda=92s set, =93baby don=92t you break my heart =
slow=94,
onto the end of disk 2.
=20
seattle 7/10: best of the two seattle shows=85the mix was better and the
people around me were quieter than on the first night. occasionally you
can hear the people who were behind me talking =96 i think they talked =
for
the entire duration of the show. what is that about? there are some
spots where the sound of people around me clapping is louder than the
drums =96 thankfully, everyone nearby seemed to be able to keep a beat.
:-)
=20
seattle 7/9: the sound is still pretty good on this one, but a=92s =
vocals
were a little quiet in the mix that night=85.there was a group of women =
in
front of me who were getting a real kick out of clapping as loudly as
possible on ozilline, yield, and closer to fine. unfortunately, they
didn=92t seem to be too concerned about clapping in time with the music.
other than that, it sounds good. the only night i was taping that they
played =93you=92ve got to show=94 =96 and =93laramie=94 rocked so hard =
that i
accidentally blurted out, =93f-cking rad!!!=94 during the section where =
both
a&e were soloing. lol. the mics didn=92t pick that up though, thank =
god.
:-) i pasted the k=92s choice song, =93another year=94, onto the end of =
disk
2 =96 a&e came out to sing and play on that one.
=20
so, each show is 2 cds=85there will be no artwork, and the setlists =
should
be available on the official site, so i won=92t be including those =
either.
pick 1- 2 shows, let me know whether you want to trade (send
tradelists!) or do a b&p, and i=92ll try to take as many people as i can
handle=85i=92m also posting this to the official site bbs with a =
different
email address =96 please don=92t send a request to both emails. if you =
are
willing and able to burn these disks for others, let me know how many
you=92d be willing to burn for and i will send some of the overflow (if
there is any) your way=85..
=20
if i met you at any of these shows and we talked about a trade, please
remind me of who you are and we=92ll definitely work something out. =
which
reminds me =96 if you are becky or chellie from the seattle line, i =
cannot
seem to reach either of you. please send me a message =96 chellie, =
i=92m
definitely still interested in the photos.
=20
joy :-)
=20
p.s. =96 at the seattle 7/10 show, a group of three women sat in front =
of
me with the best behaved baby i have ever seen. i was worried that my
tape would be full of baby screams, but the kid didn=92t make a peep all
night=85i told one of the women just how wonderful i thought that baby =
was
after the show was over. if one of you is reading this, send me a
message and describe what the four of you looked like. i=92ll send you =
a
copy of the show, disks and postage on me. :-)
