maybe it will backfire. we had similar 'hate'
propaganda mailed to our home prior to the last
election by the republican candidate. the press
picked it up and ran with it, it was so heinous.
the candidates mother was even quoted in the
paper as being ashamed of her son! the candidate
ended up losing. and this in virginia!!! which
almost always goes republican unless there's an
overwhelming reason not to. this was an
overwhelming reason i guess.
so keep your chin up. same thing may happen for
you. it's my experience that there's a whole
slew of straight people who couldn't care less
about gay issues, but when something hateful is
thrown in their face, they'll reject it.

hi all,
noone weighing in yet on poughkeepsie last night so i'll try to sum up the highlights. i have to say, this was one of the most pleasant ga experiences at a show i've ever had-- thanks to the brave souls deb and michelle, we had a spot right in front, and for once it actually stayed that way-- the early arrivers lined up orderly and actually got in first. the venue staff was very accomodating of our stress about having interlopers jump in line in front of us, and as it turned out, our fears of being pushed out were unfounded. it's nice to start the night out on the railing like you planned.
k's choice opened and were wonderful. sarah's voice is just so pure and lovely, and the way they are so gracious sets such a nice tone for the evening. once the girls took the stage, the show itself was quite amazing, punctuated by especially rockin versions of chickenman, faye tucker (i'm wrong about thinking that song can't be played acoustic and be good!), shame on you, become you, and amy's new solo song (which she referred to as 'dairy queen', the first line refers to someone being 'drunk and mean down at the dairy queen'). no band, just carol, which was unexpected but not bad (tho i miss brady!). emily highlights included wood song, collecting you, deconstruction, and a positively blistering solo on chickenman. the crowd was amazing-- loud and sing-y during the singy songs, quiet and attentive during starkville, the quiet parts of faye tucker, and ghost. all in all, a terrifically pleasing ga concert experience, renewing my faith in these kinds of shows! i was getting old and cranky about them for a while.
finally, a truly rare second encore was played-- the first encore (starkville and galiileo) brought the crowd to such a frenzy that didn't die down after they left the stage, so they came back and played ghost. emily was beaming. it was one of those really amazing moments that even jaded old ladies like me, approaching the triple digits soon in shows, can be humbled by.
off to holmdel, hoping for an eqaully stirring evening.

hey all-
just back from a nice two days in baltimore. great show. beautiful weather
too. me and the wife saw the sites during the day, one of which was emily at
soundcheck from the pier 5 lighthouse. she was working on a new song but
didn't play it that night. we left early so not sure if amy joined her for a
full soundcheck or not. this was about 4pm. there were some others enjoying
it too. sounded great from the top of the lighthouse. after the show, i hung
out with some others waiting for amy/emily but they were't coming out. too
many people i think. sarah and gert were there and talked to a bunch of us
though. i got them to sign my ticket stub. both are incredibly nice and
friendly. "thank's" again to the lady who let me borrow her pen. i couldn't
believe how tall sarah was.
i did manage to tape both k's choice and the girls. both sound extrememly
good other than the fact that there is some wind noise in both shows (k's
much worse unfortunately). i'll post when these are available (they need
transfered to cdr). here are the actual full setlists -
get out the map
become you
power of two
ozilline
deconstruction
jonas and ezekial (instead of "three hits")
watershed
yield
collecting you
shame on you
virginia woolf
johnny rottentail
closer to fine (with sarah from k's choice)
starkville
least complicated
philosophy of loss
take it in stride (amy new song)
kid fears (with ghert from k's choice)
galileo
---encore----
deliverance
chickenman/bitterroot*
* incredible 10 minutes. the crowd was going nuts. emily's solo totally
different and rocked.
k's choice- no encore - about 30min
if you're not scared
my heart
??
new "wedding song" **
almost happy
my head
god in my bed
busy
** pretty sure this is brand new.
have fun at the remaining shows everyone. i'll see them in harrisburg on the

peace.

wow,
i am so glad you taped it. this had to be one of the best shows in awhile.
i heard the sound check from the marriott. i've been following them for so
long now and they just get better and better. i am really happy you taped
k's choice - last time i saw them was in winston-salem and they were pretty
hard edged then.
i don't think i will ever be over this show.
let me know when the cdr's are ready. i have a website if you need space to
load them.

i wanted to cry, if nothing more i hope that everyone in ma who supports same
sex marriage rights will remember his name, and just what he stands for, and
please pass the word along to any organizations who can get the word out
there to see that prejudice like this can be thwarted!! i really would have
liked to have been able to get a copy of that message to a local radio

subject: holmdel show
haven't read anything from the holmdel show last night (sept 15) so i
thought i'd send in my review. firstly, if we knew earlier that an indigo
girls concert would have ended new jersey's drought, we could have booked
them for june! cripes, the rain pounded us unmercifully! there was not a
lot of tailgating in the parking lot before hand as a result of this. too
bad, since the grounds are nice. since the show wasn't sold out (hard to
believe), the pnc arts center folks let the lawn seating people sit under
the roof - an unusually nice gesture (and even then the place wasn't
filled!). k's choice opened promptly at 8:00 with a 35 minute set. their
music was rather mellow (sarah noted that they couldn't afford to bring
their band with them) but their sound was a good prelude for amy and emily,
who were also without band (although carol isaacs was there). the indigo
girls took the stage at 9:00 exactly and played 1 hour & 40 minutes of
wonderful music. here's the set list:
gone again
watershed
become you
deconstruction
ozilline
least complicated *
yield
power of two **
shame on you
our deliverance
dairy queen (take it in stride)
closer to fine ***
you've got to show
jonas and ezekial
get out the map
moment of forgiveness
collecting you
chickenman with bitterroot
------------------
kid fears ****
galileo

some other notes... the girls seemed to be in great spirits at the show.
their voices were perfect, echoing around the superb acoustics of the
concert hall. a huge screen high over the stage projected the girls from
several angles, which was a great feature especially when people were
standing up. the roof overhead provided shelter from the rain yet the open
sides allowed for a pleasant breeze to pass through. in fact, when emily
first appeared on stage she commented that our weather was like atlanta
weather, and used the word "thick" to describe it. the humidity sure made
it feel that way.
* the audience did a great sing-along on least complicated. their very much
in-tune voices filling the hall. amy and emily seemed quite please and were
full of smiles. when the na na's were finally over, emily said "nj we love
you" and held up her hand in the sign language 'i love you' sign. the
audience went wild.
** once again, during power of two, the audience took over with the singing
("now we're talking about a difficult thing...") and a&e just stepped back
from the mics, grinning and nodding. emily is usually full of smiles at
concerts but this time amy was also full of grins the entire evening. it
was nice to see.
*** sarah joined in on closer to fine (she has a very nice voice). one
funny thing on this song - right before the penny whistle part, carol isaacs
was off the stage, so amy turned around when it's carol's cue to begin and
carol came running across the stage with the penny whistle up to her lips,
just managing to play her part in time. after the song ended, all 3 of them
were laughing. emily looked at her and said, "we just loooooove carol."
**** gert joined the girls on kid fears, but to tell the truth, the audience
was singing out that part so loudly, that we couldn't hear gert at all.
once again, a&e seemed very pleased at the audience singing.
overall it was a great show, and i personally didn't miss the rest of the
band. indigo girls concerts just seem a bit more intimate to me without the
other band players there.
fashion report: amy had her hair in pigtails, and wore black jeans with a
long sleeve, button down shirt. i did notice that amy was wearing a silver
band on her right ring finger. hmmmm... i've never noticed that before.
emily had on dark blue jeans and a black t-shirt with a light blue
unbuttoned shirt over it.
sorry for the length of this...
peace - mg

go amy!
amy says "why not interview lesbian punk, jazz, hip-hop, rock, or bluegrass
musicians? there are plenty of them." who did she have in mind? i ask
because i am a producer and i am interested in who she thinks these
outspoken women might be (aside from the butchies, bitch n animal and alix).

apologies for the nigc, but this is important, likely to affect all of us
(and many, many more), if you have a chance to express your opinions
directly to your president, it seems to me an opportunity not to be missed.
(meanwhile in the uk, there are initiatives to send postcards to your mp,
the american ambassador etc. - if anyone wants details of these, please
email me off list.)
apologies again for the nigc - i'll try to restrain myself in future!
in peace

not exactly a 'collectible' but it's a copy of a tshirt my sis and i made for
amy that she signed for us. it's very dear to me because it was at my first ig
concert after having waited for 7 years to see them live and also because amy
looked genuinely touched by the gift.
oh and ... my norman guitar signed by emily and amy... of course :-)
peace y'all

ok, i don't usually do this but this show ranked right up there in my top two
shows, i still think the paradise show was the best and i thought the
poughkeepsie show couldn't be beat but...............
first chris and i have to give a huge thanks to deb and michelle for the
second show in a row sitting out in line all day and allowing us to get there
as soon as we could. we ended up sitting about 7 feet from amy and emily all
night! this place was truly like a pint size newport with grass right up to
the stage, no barrier and a stage that came up to my waist (i'm 5'7). we were
right between the two of them! the crowd was awesome! the girls were all
smiles, chatty and looking like they were having a great time. people were
making requests and they honored quite a few including devotion which was
requested by the popcorn palace? people. at one point amy said they were
basically playing the whole right of passage album. we got chickenman, which
emily is really rockin' on, she's playing some really cool stuff! virginia
woolfe, power of two, three hits and i know there was more but i my head is
still foggy. no dairy queen tonight but we got johnny rotten and philosophy
of loss.
just when i thought the night couldn't get any better, by the way the weather
too was incredible! i noticed that deb and michelle had set our become you
promo posters on the stage with a pen, not even dreaming that they may sign
them, guess what! amy came out from the encore and immediately went to the
posters and signed them then handed them to emily and gave them back to
us!!!! she had to have seen them there the whole time, but wait it gets
better!! at the end of you've got to show which was the second encore, they
shed their guitars and walked back to carol who they have situated where the
drums normally are, had a brief talk came back to the mics without guitars
and broke into finlandia, yup. amy emily and carol!!!! you could have heard a
pin drop the place was soooooo silent. it sent chills up and down my spine,
absolutely incredible!!!. oh, and i can't forget my "pic magnet" partner
chris who got me another pick, thanks babe!
well, that's all i have, i know this can't top one of susan marine's reviews
but that was mine!!!
see you in providence, gilford and portland!!!!!!

hussein is a dictator all right and i'm not saying that i like
him....but look at this....in the 1980's donald rumsfeld met with
hussein, and gave him the chemical weapons to help in the war against
iran.....he has not used them against us,but in the persian gulf war we
used chemical weapons against him,
if that doesn't concern ya, let me ask you about all the dictators the
u.s.has supported.....like marcos, christiani, garcia, fujimori,
pinochet,
just to name a few? these people have been just as cruel as saddam, yet
the u.s. government was not the least bit concerned.
in going over to iraq to kill and be killed, isn't geore w. just trying
to "finish the job" his father
started with sept. 11th as his excuse althouh he can't find any direct
links? if he wants to put out hussein, he needs to do it without another
all-out war on the iraqi people.
peace

hey everyone!
since we (popcorn palace) made it into the world of indigo girls stage stories mindy and i would love a copy of the show. it was so sweet of amy and emily to play our request. "devotion" will never sound the same again.
does anyone have a boot? i don't care if it's good, bad or ugly. just to have a copy of the show where they mention our bribe would be awesome.
i can't wait until burlington tonight. i have front row seats, which i am psyched for. hope to see some of you there.
take care and peace!

hello fair friends,
if you have no experience recording on a mini-disc recorder, feel free to shoot me straight to your trash can right now!
if you record shows on a sony minidsc recorder, please read on. i really need your help! i recently bought a sony type r minidisc recorder (model mz-n707) and just figured out that you can't digitally upload the recorded music onto your computer because sony (those weenies) put a feature on the new models of the recorder to prevent this. here are my questions:
1) have any of you figured out how to successfuly override this feature? there are documents on line hinting at this, but i haven't been able to find anything resembling instructions.
2) if you haven't figured this out, but instead record *directly* from the md recorder to your cd burner, what make and model of burner do you have that allows you to do this? i somehow don't think the nice people at best buy are going to let me wander around the store with my md recorder, trying out different cd burners til i find one that is compatible with my mini disc ;) so if you can point me to the one *you* use i'd be appreciative.
finally, if anyone can point my technologically inept ass to some sources of info on this stuff, i would really appreciate it! i tape every show i go to, so someday i will share the wealth, really
xxo
sus
ps feel free to email me privately so as not to waste others preshus time with this. there are indig girls shows to be attending right now as i write this!

not to get into a pissing match cause i know we all have different views on
politics and how the world should be run, but we all love the indigo girls
(me included dispite the fact i disagree with some of their views) and the
list is for discussion about them and ya, they are extrememly political and
i'm going to post a response even though i know it may start a flame war.
sorry. its not personal, but as usual, someone else started this (not you).
:)
>if that doesn't concern ya, let me ask you about all the dictators the
>u.s.has supported..like marcos, christiani, garcia, fujimori, pinochet,
>just to name a few? these people have been just as cruel as saddam, yet
>the u.s. government was not the least bit concerned.
let me point out that both democratic and republician presidents supported
these individuals so lets be fair here and not just put the focus on gw. we
are not privy to all what goes on and its never as simple as saying, yes or
no. the past is the past. we are in a new world.

>in going over to iraq to kill and be killed, isn't geore w. just trying
>to "finish the job" his father started with sept. 11th as his excuse
>althouh he can't find any direct links? if he wants to put out
>hussein, he needs to do it without another all-out war on the iraqi
>people.
you honestly believe this about the old man??? come on. as far as direct
links, what more proof do you need that what has been reported? you say
yourself you don't like him but its ok for him to torture his own people?
they clearly support terrorism and he is apparently about 3 months away from
having nukes. true or not, this frightens me. did you not see the people of
iraq dancing in the streets when the fucking towers where on fire and people
where burning to death and jumping out of the buildings from a 100 story's
up to avoid being burned as if jumping was a solution? or the $20k he
offered the families of those suicide bomers that took action in the usa
even to this day?
even if its all a hoax, which it ain't, suddam is evil and i think most of
us (maybe not on the list) feel its not worth the risk of taking no action
and dealing with the aftermath of a chemical weapon or nuke going off in the
usa (or the uk or elsewhere). now, if one does, who are you going to blame
for not preventing it? i mean, gw can't win can he? he's critizied for
trying to do something and he's being attacked for not stopping 9/11 like it
was stopable? the investigations into that continue one year later.
beleive me, i don't want war either but do you really think we have a
choice? of course this doesn't solve the whole problem but one step at a
time. the most eminent threat is iraq. now. today. and frankly, i agree that
this may not even stop a nuke attack here, but what else can we do? un
inspections? if anyone actually thinks these are going to work then we
should just flush it all down the fucking toilet because we're being lead by
the blind.
we are the targets. that's why germany, russia and france can give a shit
what happens in iraq (at least for the time being). do you know that irag is
one of russia's biggest trading partner? money drives all kinds of motives.
what they need to do is blow up the fucking ifeil tower and maybe the french
will wake up from their weakness.
this is not about politics (well maybe a little) but deep down, i think gw
is trying to do what is right for the country and believe me, as much as i
hated clinton for the person he is and was in the white house specifically,
i'd want and i would support him a 1000% for taking iraq out if he was in
office, or anyone else for that matter. some things are not political and
shouldn't be made to be. this is going there and it shouldn't.
just to put it in perspective, in wwii, we were not getting into that war
(at least not in 41'). most people in the country did not want us involved.
shit, its so far away. that was europe's problem. hilter could and would
have solidified his rein there if it wasn't for the stupidity of the
japanese in bombing pearl harbor....who the hell knows? frightening eh?
ok, i didn't mean it to go so long. sorry to waste the bandwith but i think
this issue is important.
be well.
dpm.

ok, i was going to wait a week or two for this but since i made that long

making a peace offering and show i'm not all that bad a guy! really i'm not

these are uncirculated shows so far that i taped this tour (only sent to
europe to date). *very* nice sounding shows. this offer is for usa/canada
only right now. if someone in europe would like to help out with this, lmk
and i'll send one set of copies out and those interested can obtain them
from that person. i'll take the first 10 from the list and 10 digesters as
well. just respond to this email with the subject above so i know to put
those aside. no art right now (maybe later).

barbara !
how right you are! it's great to hear some reality coming from someone in the know ~ our so called "liberal media" (sarcasm, folks) is spinning this as a necessity and rattling the sabers of war.
the reagan and bush 1 administrations were friendly to saddam and provided him with everything he needed to become the "evil doer" that he is today. i wonder why the focus on war now? they lost at the "where's waldo" game ~ where is osama? bush's shortcomings on the domestic front will be overshadowed if we go to war with iraq - how convenient this drum beating is just 40+ days before a mid-term election!
consider the following from a very recent david podvin article:
(the complete article can be found at www.buzzflash.com <http://www.buzzflash.com/>.
"in 1993, iraq attempted to assassinate the emir of kuwait and a former american president.
the regime in indonesia has massacred many more east timorans than hussein has killed kurds.
the regime in sudan has slaughtered two million people, many more than hussein is reported to have killed.
the regime in china has also murdered many more people than has hussein.
but no one except hussein has tried to kill poppy bush. more importantly, no one except hussein is sitting on a vast reservoir of oil that can be easily stolen in the name of freedom and justice."
no war!

look....i'm only saying four things:

1. we can get rid of saddam hussein without an all out war on iraq.
2. no one has proven that the war has a direct linkage to sept. 11,(just
because there was dancing in iraqi streets doesn't mean they all carried
it out.) and this is not just from me.

3. i did not say that only george w. is resposible for our past.....but
he s responsible for continuing it by not looking at why people in third
world are so mad that they want to get us...there must be a reason other
than "they hate our freedom." and instead of asking the people there why
they are angry....and trying to make amends that would prevent another
attack he's going "bombs away," and bringing the risk of another attack
higher.

4. why does our country say that it is only for "freedom and democracy"
while dissing only the dictators that don't do our bidding?
you can disagree all you want, it's a free country......but we would
have to agree to disagree because i'm not one for changing my
stance....and it doesn't look like you are either.
bottom line: no war.
peace

hey y'all,
some people have asked that this be taken off the list to private e-mail. i personally have no opinion on the matter, but i did want to remind you that the ig bbs has a whole section devoted to activism. you can post all of your activist thoughts on an ig forum and not anger the people who want to keep the nigc off the list (though it can be argued that activism is igc).
just a thought...
go to: <http://www.indigogirls.com/bbs>
there are some really great people on the bbs. we like to have fun as well. :)

hi all,
let the record show that i try to wait until at least 10 am for *someone else* to share their musings about the concert i went to the night before, but when 10 am rolls around i can't keep my trap shut!
last night in providence was just fabulous. first off, lets give (as amy says in her cutest white girl twang) props to the providence performing arts center-- what a fantastically beautiful venue! from the ornate gilt carvings on the ceiling, to the plush and cushy red velvet seats, to the sweet old folks who seated us in black bowties....truly a great place to see a show (nice acoustics don't hurt either). although it was once again a more 'sedate' crowd than i liked, there seemed to be peaceful coexistence between the dancers and the sitters (for the most part). the set list didn't stray too far from the sets of the last several shows i've seen-- still no drums or bass, sadly, so i think there's only so much variation they can do with that....my brain categorize shows into 'amy songs' and 'emily songs' so here goes my effort:
amy: shame on you, starkville, become you, gone again, devotion, kid fears, moment of forgiveness, chickenman and biterroot...some others i can remember
emily: deconstruction, get out the map, it's alright, you've got to show, virginia woolf (yay!), she's saving me, power of two...some others i can't remember
and of course the standards; ctf, galileo, and least complicated.
amy was chattier than usual, and told an especially amusing story about having gone to east greenwich high school that day to talk about 'di-ver-si-teeeee" and noting that these days, the more of a freak you are, the better! she said that when she and emily were in high school, it was all about being as normal as possible...then she stopped herself and sai "if you're normal, that's okay too, that's great too...everyone's great!". it was totally charming.
they must have heard my little prayer because they did bust into finlandia with carol at the end of the encore, but it was kind of spoiled at the end when some buffoon yelled out 'god bless america!' as they finished. they both looked pretty dismayed when they walked off stage--who can blame them? you sing this gorgeous song about global unity and peace, and you get bombarded with god bless america. geez.
and of course the ultimate highlight was our very own flora brown, baigl extarordinaire, who got invited by amy to come out on stage and talk about the social justice organizations that the concert's proceeds supported. we're so proud a ya, flora! you were amazing!
that's it from my end. see y'all in gilford in a few hours

the end. i was really confused.
anyway, that must have been really loud since i was able to hear it throug my
cell phone!

ok, i'll notify the lucky people this evening. this is the first i'm
checking email since i posted as i got way busy and such. so, all who
responded are in regardless. it wasn't that many over the 20.
in addition, i have a person in europe interested in branching (or something
like that) so there will most likely be an offer for those overseas. keep
tuned.
peace.
dpm.
