greetings -
amy and emily are going to release a "rarities" record in 2003. the
plan is to collect obscure, hard to find, out of print recordings that
are of particular interest to fans. i am in the process of collecting
songs now and am thinking you all may have some good ideas. if you do,
send me an email at igfan@mindspring.com (referenced rarities) and i
will add your idea to our list. look for both a new studio album and
the "rarities" record in 2003.
happy holidays -

i thought i'd post this message again on the list so that everyone has the
correct address to send their suggestions in to. your suggestions should go
to igfan@mindspring.com not igfan@hotmail.com. i've gotten some great
suggestions though & i'll be sure to send them on to the proper address. :)
thanks!
november 4, 2002
greetings -
amy and emily are going to release a "rarities" record in 2003. the
plan is to collect obscure, hard to find, out of print recordings that
are of particular interest to fans. i am in the process of collecting
songs now and am thinking you all may have some good ideas. if you do,
send me an email at igfan@mindspring.com (referenced rarities) and i
will add your idea to our list. look for both a new studio album and
the "rarities" record in 2003.
happy holidays -
russell d. carter

i think that refers to a question as to whether sony will re-sign them to
the label. i don't think it bears any significance to the future of the
musical partnership...
then again, i didn't think the republicans would gain control of both

well, it's a lyric in amy's song measure of me, which didn't end up on
cons but is on stag. maybe the rest of the verse will make it clearer.
sorry about the formatting. :p

the boy he thinks i'm damaged goods.
i know he does and i guess he should.
i dress like him, i take him down.
he gets embarrassed when his
friends come around.

i want to take him to the show,
i'm crossing over what you know.
is it the boy you need in me,
or the girl that you could be?

come on now social, i want you to be.
come on now graceful, i want you to be.
come on now special, i want you to be.
i want you.

and so this is the measure of me,
even though it shouldn't be.

i can't do it, so i ain't worth a damn.

has anyone figured out just exactly what the girls are looking for when
they say "rarities?"
the word is so vague, it could mean anything......like are they looking
for fan created boots maybe? i would like to help out but i don't know
what to look for. i contacted rcam but i haven't gotten any word yet,
and probably won't for awhile.
oh well.

i don't find anything particularly mysterious about the term "rarities." i
would imagine they are referring to original songs that never made it onto
cds, but fans have been treated to in concerts over the years. and i don't
think they are interested in fan boots, they pretty much record everything
themselves.

> has anyone figured out just exactly what the girls are looking for when

this is a good question. i found it to be vague as well. i took it as
unreleased stuff or really random covers. maybe that's me dreaming. i
suggested mona lisas and mad hatters as well as my very favorite old tracks
holy city and cold as ice. check out a $10 tour boot and there's lots of
oldies and random stuff. so, to me, rare means hard to find in released
form. other thoughts?
and i'm curious as to whether folks think they'll re-sign with sony. or is
the question will sony re-sign them. i know little about record labels but
wouldn't a band that consistently puts out gold and platinum selling cd's be
considered successful. or will ig want to sign on again with such a
mainstream label? i have always felt like they were given a lot of leeway
with their activism and ventures into different styles (read the plugged in
years). any actual insight as opposed to my rambling speculation would be
lovely. --g

that much rumored promo from the rites of passage tour at the greek
theater, when, in the past 10 years (my anniv. was like last week) would be
wonderful if they would do a small pressing (like counting crows, who are
amazing to their fanbase) or just put the thing up like rem did with their
remix (read - post reveal) album...
of course - the elton john - ig duet of "mona lisas and the mad hatters"
from the atlanta pride show in the early 90's (don't know date but several
people were there - it did happen!
or emily's solo tape that she doesnt want distributed...
those are true rarities...
the one off mike reynolds duet of closer to fine not withstanding. that is
just priceless....

they've probably already been stockpiling stuff.
i got contacted through my boot site a while ago by katharine mcelroy of 1945 (then-three finger cowboy) asking for a copy of the 9:30 club show that they played a couple songs with amy and emily ... it was the one that was the gldf fundraiser, i forget exactly what year, circa sots. so i sent it to her, and she said that she would pass along a copy to amy.
