hi everyone,
sorry for the late notice (and sorry for the nigc, ig listees), but i just
found out myself-- there's some fabulously not-to-be-missed performances
happening tonight (saturday) in the great state of ohio. anyone within
spitting or driving or hitching distance needs to drop their detritus (sue
me if i spelled that wrong) and get here.
this weekend is parents' and friends' weekend, which means there's lots of
fun things happening in the little town of oberlin-- sports, lectures,
films, tours, and all sorts of performances. come early and spend the day!
you don't have to be a parent or a friend. you could be a snarly-faced
member of the pedestrian citizenry and you'd still be welcome. the complete
schedule of events can be found at
<http://www.oberlin.edu/parents/saturday.html>.
okay. commence concert lust. for starters:
erin mckeown
saturday 9 november
oberlin college, finney chapel
90 north professor street, oberlin oh
show starts 8pm; doors at 7?
all seats $8 adv/ $10 at the door
advance tickets can be obtained thru oberlin's central ticket service,
located in the hall auditorium lobby, 67 north main st. (rt. 58), between
the allen memorial art museum and the oberlin inn, ph 440-775-8169. cts is
holding special saturday hours this weekend, 12-5p. tickets also available
from the info desk in the student union, located in wilder hall, 135 west
lorain st.
following mckeown's performance, if you're of the wild-eyed and sleepless
set, step across the path and come on over next door for a double-header
nightcap:
emm gryner and sarah slean
saturday 9 november
oberlin college dionysus club
(aka the 'sco, as in disco. don't ask.)
wilder hall ground floor, 135 w. lorain st.
show starts 10pm. tickets $6 at the door.
<http://www.emmgryner.com, http://www.sarahslean.com for more info <http://www.emmgryner.com, http://www.sarahslean.com%20for%20more%20info>>
oberlin college is located 35 miles west of cleveland, at the intersections
of state routes 58 and 511. the cornfields are plentiful, the parking is
free, and i am newly single. ahem.
subtlety never was a friend of mine,
jill

this may be a dumb question (begrudge me people, huh...lol), but does anyone
think that w/ the "rarities" cd that it will mean the already existing
version of these rare songs, or will it mean updated, studio versions of
these hard to find songs? i would kind of think that if they are asking fans
for ideas, then they are going to be of recordings that are all ready in
existence, and if the fans already have them, then why make a cd of songs
that most of the fans have to begin with? any thoughts, and kind comments
will be warmly received!!
thanks!!

probably a mix. i doubt they'll be asking us for mail-ins anytime soon, but i
bet thye'll go back to old soundboard recordings and dig up the stuff we ask
for. i mean, we already know they make those recordings. we may get a version of
american tune from "reverse 1 live" or something, since that's probably their
cleanest copy (and a shame, too, since i dpn't really care for that version) but
i bet we'll get some new-to-us recordings, too.
i would kind of think that if they are asking fans

i expect that nobody at epic or rcam (amy and emily included) can remember more
than a handful of songs that might fall into the "shoulda been on an album but
weren't" category (i.e. original songs that never made it to album or covers
they performed often enough to "own" them.) it's like when the producers of tv
shows can't remember the name of some secondary character's ex-wife - rather
than guess and get it wrong, they go online and ask the fas. or at least the
smart ones do :)

who already sent one email for winthrop and is considering a second one

amy really was upset when the first ep was bootlegged and mentioned epic
owns the rights to them - i dunno - i mean - epic doesnt have the greatest
vaults of older stuff - say - pre- 89, and it is wierd better sounding
sourced tapes were circulating on some tracks that ended up on 1200 curfews
then wwhat was mastered with the cd. i thought the rereleases of the first
series of albums had lame extra tracks - no one ever talks about the
version of blood and fire that is on the indigo records version of strange
fire (completely different - far more intense in my opinion) or the
possiblity that the acoustic mixes of the swamp orphelia songs are there
and not released.
and yeah- if any one has that song on mp3 - my tape cuts off -

i'd love to have a decent recording of emily's' amelia...from way way
back..
and that acoustic version of caramia at the benefit show she did for
the cop way back in decatur when amy's plane was late. i like that
acoustic version better than the electric.
of course i would love for a release of her solo tape even though she
doesn't want it released ( a girl can hope)
i know its out there somewhere.

i've never heard of the loquat tree either, but ballad in plain d is a very
old bob dylan song from his "another side of bob dylan" album which i
believe was his third release.

it's actually "wild, wild party in the loquat tree" and as the title might suggest, it's a children's song on a collaborative tape called "put on your green shoes"/ an all star album dedicated to healing the planet. it's cute. other musicians on the tape are:
cyndi lauper
richie havens
willie nelson
tom paxton
dr. john
kenny loggins
olivia newton-john
tom chapin
and some other lesser known names
does anyone remember a very long time ago, a&e collaborated with someone (a guy) from one of the slavik or czech countries on a song to bring awareness to what was going on in his country and it's effort was to strive for peace. i tried to find out info about it at the time and didn't get too far, but i remember segments of it were played on the news at the time. this would definitely be considered a rarity.

the guy's name was nenad bach and there were random celebrities who worked
on this project like martin sheen and john malkovich. its a rarity
basically because the video and song were too long, even in their edited
versions, to get much airplay, if any at all. i think the video runs like
11 mins and the truncated version of the song is still like 7 or 8 minutes.
bach was very persistent in that his message--in its entirety--be heard
rather than an edited soundbyte of it.
here is some more info on it:
<http://theband.hiof.no/albums/can_we_go_higher.html>

i think that "rarities" will probably be songs that ig wrote and never
released, or rare live versions of stuff, or old, old stuff from their
independent release and basement tapes. i don't think ig would want to get
all caught up in getting the permissions to use stuff that they only appear
in for two seconds like "can we go higher?", etc.

the video , in it's truncated version was seven or eight minutes?
vh1 can air hour long michael jackson "short films," but seven or
eight minute video is too long?
gal, i think you're missing the boat....those people are not airing that
video due to length,
but because it's political.

i would love clean, nonboot copies of some of their original work rather
than just covers. i mean i'd kill for good copies of "high horse," "the

thank you michele for alerting us (me) to this date!! i'm really bad about checking the ig website. i bought my tickets but i have no idea how close or far they are since they don't tell you when you order them. you have to wait until they arrive in the mail. anyhow, its a very nice early xmas present. perhaps they'll be a listmeet before? that would be so cool! i know there are close-by restaraunts since my mother-in-law lives about a 1/2 mile away from the venue. if anyone is interested in meeting i could scope out some potential places. let me know!

hi,
i live in newark delaware, right near wilmington. there are some great
places to eat nearby the grand. i bought 50 tickets - i belong to the
rainbow chorale and had some doing in getting the girls to wilmington.
i started to book them for the grand and then called the grand to see
if the date was open. the date was open but then found out that there
was a legal clause and that the grand is the venue that can book for
wilmington. the grand was so used to loosing the ig's to the
philadelphia area that wilmington hasn't had the ig's in years so they
were quite amazed to get this booking. i didn't care who booked them,
i just wanted them in wilmington. the acoustics are great and it only
seats 1,437 people. if you are coming to town and need some
recommendations for resturants or lodging i can give you some. but only
if you promise to read the paragraph below,
i have catie curtis coming into town this saturday, november 16.
tickets are 16 presale and 20 at the door. it will be a great show.
for more information on my shows, go to www.listeningpost.us <http://www.listeningpost.us/> many of
the shows are in churches so the acoustics are great and so i don't
have to set up chairs. i only book in churches that are affirming to
all and have an open door policy.
you can email me at marybpost@comcast.net or at
listeningpost@comcast.net

hi jane,
yes, i watched buffy last night as well. it's always nice to have those
kinds of ig moments. :) i immediately thought of emily, knowing that she
watches buffy, and mused about how it must feel to be watching one of your
favorite weekly series and hearing your band mentioned by name. must be
cool.

dear indigo fans -
we've received thousands of great responses to the request for track
suggestions for an indigo girls "rarities" release and it's very clear going
through them what the favorites of the fans are. all of these suggestions
will be tallied up and be given full consideration for this project.
due to the overwhelming responses, though, we ask that you please stop
sending suggestions as we simply cannot handle processing hundreds of emails
daily!
thanks for all your ideas.

i'm thinking this falls into the "be careful what you ask for" because indigo girls fans will surely give it to you category...
i suspect it's going to be a great compilation when it happens - pretty cool all the input from those of you much more knowlegable about the girls than some of us.
cheers,
kc

it really wasn't a very nice reference. the girl/demon was making fun of willow. saying she could picture willow's suicide now. sitting in a dark room, listening to the indigo girls, with a picture of her dead girlfriend by her side...it actually made me a little angry. i know that the reference was purely because ig is a lesbian group. but i'm just quite fond of the girls and i hate seeing them "labeled" that's all. but maybe if she were listening to them she'd change her mind about suicide because their music was so uplifting. so poo poo on whatever buffy writer came up with that crap. i agree that ig were referenced cause they're a lesbian group. however, i see
nothing wrong with this. cassie or whoever was using her body through which
to speak was playing with willow's mind and mocking her. that was becoming
more and more apparent as the two talked and once it got to the ig mention,
it was totally appropriate that cassie site ig, their sarcastic mention
matched her tone and alerted willow to the fact that she was being misled.
plus it was fun to hear them mentioned.
and by the way, no one should be ashamed about watching buffy. it is perhaps
the most underrated show on tv and the musical episode blew my mind!
that's all from geek central.....

hey folks,
not a flame, but a polite request. please, please don't post too much recent plot information for buffy or other tv shows. australians generally don't see new episodes until at least six months after they air in the us, and i know other countries are in the same boat too. (personally, i use kazaa to download both angel and buffy, but i'm still usually a week behind those of you in the us.)
i will, however, say that i'm enjoying the new season of buffy about 700 times more than last season's depress-fest... :)
happy happy,
sherlyn

overwhelming responses...it was bound to happen. i think it's fantastic that us fans were asked to take part in this project and put forth our ideas. nice one!
thanks

we've received thousands of great responses to the request for track
suggestions for an indigo girls "rarities" release and it's very clear going
through them what the favorites of the fans are. all of these suggestions
will be tallied up and be given full consideration for this project.
due to the overwhelming responses, though, we ask that you please stop
sending suggestions as we simply cannot handle processing hundreds of emails
daily!
thanks for all your ideas.
-russell carter

i bought it and it is great. the songs have more separation between
elements. you hear things that you didn't hear before from the regular
cd. it's like you are sitting in the middle of a room and the players
are in a circle all around you.
