that's not fun at all

ok, then you competely missed my point... i said that with out the trouist
they would only have their fellow poor country men to sell sand in a bag, but
thanks to rich white folk bringing in other rich white folk, they can sell
sand in a bag for a lot more money. so the way i see it is that the cruise
ships are huge floating atm's for those poor islanders... who by the way
would do what with any real wealth? move to a tropical island?
also please tell me how with out the large boats, filled with people spending
as much money as possible during their only two weeks a year out from
underneath floressent office lighting , these people have a chance to better

those are some mighty high asperations you have. and it's good, because

good question! it depends on the song, but usually i'm an amy singer.
i think on the ones where there isn't much harmony, or the harmony isn't
very interesting, i just sing the melody. but on ctf, for instance, i
sing amy. but, as everyone knows, i'm a boy. maybe i take the amy side
because my voice is lower.

howdy ya'll,
i would have gotten in on the cruise thread but all
the good points have been taken, so i won't bore you
with repetition.
but jen brought up an interesting thought, and i
wanted to devulge in it!
i'm by no means a polished singer but i've always had
a knack for finding a higher harmony to most songs:
just a hobbie or an annoying habit, whichever you
choose. but up until the indigo girls i couldn't for
the life of me go below the melody to pick out a lower
harmony, it was beyond my scope of comprehension.
then along comes amy...
basically i took her parts on as a challenge and a
guide, and now when i'm singin' along to the car radio
i can throw in a lower harmony-that is if the melody
doesn't crouch too low itself-and i'm really proud of
that!
but it is true that at ig concerts i'd say about 85%
of people are covering emily's parts, who can blame
them though, they're absolutely beautiful and fun to
sing! but if you ever listen real carefully to the
harmony it's almost like hearing a completely
different song, it's really interesting, especially
for the people who've heard "closer to fine" 18
trillion times but never really focused on memorizing
the other side of the song. try it sometime.
anyway, despite being a first soprano in my college
choir, i've sunk to new depths with the help of the
only girl tenor i've ever come across. peace and
love, ya'll!

it's 1200 curfews in fancy packaging - there are some tour pictures in the
booklet (although it's missing the commentaries that are in the commerical
release) and a 'collector's pick.' and the case is wood.

i have seen a lot of these pop up on ebay for sale (usually they sell rather
cheaply or don't sell at all), so there are probably definitely more than
500 out there, especially if yours is numbered 617.

i love this thread...
it depends on the song, and the part of the song in particular.
as a matter of fact today on the subway i was singing "prince of darkness"
which is definitly one of the best counterpoint songs (two different melody
lines) the have.
the part "my place is of the sun and this place is of the dark..." that line,
i sing amy, but later on with "by garace my sight..." i sing emily.
i sing emily's part on "the less i seek my source for something definitive"
but then i do amy's "closer i am to fine"
and i always do amy's part on deconstruction!!! to skip forward a couple of
cd's!
great topic! one where it's virtually impossible for me to insult anyone!!!

good question...i like to switch around a bit, but usually go with emily
because my voice tends toward an upper range. my favorite thing to do
when not at a show is to harmonize anywhere i can. i sing amy when her
part sounds more fun than emily's (she has some good harmonies). all over

i'm an emily singer for most songs. there are some songs i'm an amy
singer, but mostly emily. i definitely stick with the role assigned to
me by the singer i'm singing in whatever song i'm singing. a perfect
example is watershed. when i'm singing that song i sing the parts:
"thought i knew my mind like the back of my hand. the gold and the
rainbow but nothing panned out as i planned."
then, even if i'm not singing along with the music but rather just
singing to the music in my head, i physically stop singing aloud and
wait for and hear amy singing in my head:
"they say only milk and honey's gonna make your soul satisfied."
then i come back in aloud:
"well i better learn how to swim, 'cause the crossing is chilly and
wide...."
another interesting note on this subject regards a local female singer
here in indianapolis, indiana named jessi curtis. she often sings
indigo girls songs when she performs. i find myself singing the
counter parts on those songs to whatever she's singing because she's
the only singer on stage and sings whatever the lead/melody vocals
are. so, i flip back and forth there. :)

. . . and i'd be very disappointed if they didn't
support an all woman, empowering event. i won't go on
and on about my feelings - i think susan m. posted a
very eloquent and succinct, right on post articulating
the great need for women's only space, on which i
strongly agree- just like i feel strongly that there
be a "safe space" for any oppressed group. it's
necessary and empowering to be with someone like
yourself to assure positive self development, and a
positive and ongoing self image and esteem. is it not
empowering to be yourself and explore your feelings
and just "be"? of course i am not advocating total
separatism - no one is, but to not acknowledge the
need for safe space by the oppressed is just plain
narrow. safe spaces don't promote segration or
separatism or whatever rhetoric you use to justify
your stance.
i can't understand for the life of me how other
women/lesbians argue against a women only event.
disagree if you will . . .

not all all . .. "safe" to me is a catchall word that
i define as feeling free and at ease enough in my
environment to be who i am. i don't feel very "safe"
walking hand in hand with my lover in certain parts of
boston, (or elsewhere, my neighborhood, at certain
events, etc.
i don't feel unsafe at an ig show. i've never met
anyone at an ig show who was a jerk. in my opinion,
people at an ig show are very cool and supportive. at
an ig show, who feels like they cannot hold hands or
kiss they're lover?

i felt unsafe at an ig show once. it was newport 2000, which is general
admission and outside. i was working my way closer to the front of the
crowd right before ig came on. everyone was standing except for this
lesbian couple who were sitting on their blanket (taking up quite a bit
of space in a packed crowd, i might add). there were several women
standing on the edges of her blanket, and she didn't seem to know them.
apparently my foot touched the edge of their blanket and one of the
women threatened to kick my ass if i didn't get off of their blanket. i
felt like she thought that because i was a guy i obviously wasn't really
there to see ig and was somehow less deserving of being near the front,
even though i had been there for like 8 hours and i only came to see
ig. granted, this was my interpretation of her actions. maybe she was
that mean to everyone. but i've gotten this same sort of attitude at
many ig shows. my ex-boyfriend wouldn't go with me to ig shows because
of the way we were treated at newport. i won't even get into how me and
my best friend (who is a lesbian, but not very butch) were treated at
the amy ray show in northampton. i guess they thought we were (gasp!)
straight or something. neither of us are, btw.
also, at the recent boston aimee mann/ig show, i was sitting (way up in
the balcony) next to this woman and her boyfriend (or husband). they
were all over each other the whole time. after aimee mann, she told her
male companion that she wanted to get out of there because she "didn't
give a shit about the indigo girls" and was "sick of all these fucking
dykes anyway". pardon my language, it's what she said.
i guess my point is that a women-only space isn't inherently safe, a
mostly-gay space isn't inherently safe, and so forth.

i inquired via email about this concert and received a very courteous note
in return, saying that tickets will go on sale jan. 21. phone orders will be
taken (i'm guessing you'll need a credit card for this) and in-person sales
at the box office will be conducted. i have the phone number for the box
office on file, and will post it in the next day or two when i have a chance
to find it....if anyone would like it before then, please send a private
message and i'll be happy to oblige, if i've tracked it down.
we're about a 3 hour drive from champaign. we live in southern illinois and
already have tix for the st. louis show and we'll probably try to get tix to
see ig in champaign, since they have a different opener than st. louis and
my husband attended u of i so he wouldn't mind visiting the campus.
happy holidays to all!

are around and could probably watch the show from the wings.
trinos' was right across the street. great bar but i bet pitchers cost
more than .50 like there were in '72.
should be a good time for all.

it appears from the krannert site that ig will be performing in the tyron
festival theatre, which seats just under 1,000 people. as i recall, krannert
spaces offer some really amazing acoustics so this should be an excellent
venue at which to see ig perform.

i have had an unsafe experience at an ig show. it was during the sots tour,
where i saw about 30 shows, so i cannot tell you exactly where it was, but
it was one of the rare occasions when i was not alone, but with my partner.
we were sitting next to this guy who constantly had his arm around his
girlfriend(?), and toward the end at the show he spit in my face.
i was in such shock and disbelief that i could do nothing.
apparently, no one had witnessed it (it was ctf-time).
he just kept staring at me, almost daring me to do something.
as a pacifist in shock, all i could do was to re-evaluate,
in total disbelief, what had just happened-over and over in my mind,
(which was racing) thinking all along that
nothing like this could possibly happen...
and especially not here!!
then he took his gf and moved away.
i still don't feel safe at ig concerts.
i don't necessarily feel unsafe, but i won't let down my guard.

i always sing the amy parts because after being in
choir for many years, i'm used to picking up and
singing the harmony. plus amy's voice is right in my
range so it's a lot easier for me.

subject: amy on the end of the epic era?
this interview article from the nation is a roundtable of musician activists.
eddie vedder, amy ray, carrie brownstein, tom morello and boots riley ... what
a concert that would be.
http://www.thenation.com/doc.mhtml?i=20030113&c=1&s=powers
but this quote from amy, about the future of indigo girls and epic records,
caught my eye:
"when indigo girls signed [with epic], that was my one concession to
hypocrisy. i just said ok, i'm going to do this, because emily [saliers, the
duo's other half] wanted to, for one thing, and i wanted to because i was
tired. we didn't have a staff, we were just doing everything for ourselves and
it was hard. i felt like, this is my choice: i can either sign to a major and
have these resources and have my own indie label [daemon records] and put out
five records a year by other people. or i can talk emily into staying
independent and we'll spend all of our time on our own career, and we won't
ever get to do anything else with anybody else. the choice was obvious.
"but i'll be very excited when this record deal is over. i would never sign
again with a major label, because i feel like it's run its course. major
labels right now are pretty obsolete for artists like us.

also amy in performing songwriter, dec. 2002 issue:
how many albums do the ig have left with epic?
amy: one.
do you have a time frame in mind?
amy: probably late spring. we want to go in as soon as we can. we want to make
it.
and what are you going to do after that?
amy: take a sabbatical (laughs). no, we're going to go on to another label. i
wouldn't even pretend
we'd go sign another deal with epic. i don't think they'd even want us back.
they don't know how to promote us
anymore. i think it would be better for them and for us to go somewhere else.
so we're going to look at big indies - but
not daemon. i don't want to put our records out; too much conflict of interest
there.
________
there's a bit more about ig and a lot about daemon. worth picking up the

hey y'all. i just rejoined the list after a couple years' absence and i have
a question. i seem to remember reading some long time ago that amy and emily
have pledged to read all their fan mail. is this true? i wonder how much
they get.
also, has anyone ever received a response/acknowledgement/form
letter/restraining order after sending them mail? i just sent amy a letter
and two copies of my book at russell carter artist mgmt, and i would love to
know whether i can realistically expect any of them to be read. i'd just
like to know that someone (hopefully amy) will read the letter before it gets
recycled. i'm guessing that a reply would be out of the question.
at any rate. happy to be back. anyone remember the old list campaign to
buy emily's piano at that honor the earth auction and donate it somewhere? i
think it was the list, though the bbs was involved too. those were good
times. has anything else like that happened since?
mmm. jasmine tea. hope to hear back from y'all.

subject: madison front row ticket offer
hi all...
last week i posted a note that mentioned a front row ticket to the feb 4
madison show that i have in my possession (row aa, seat 30 for those who are
detail-minded).
since that posting i've received a few requests from folks wanting to buy said
ticket. well seeing as it's the holidays, and seeing that i've had a few up
close and personal ig moments of my own in recent years and don't feel the
need to sit in the front row, i am willing to part with my little aa ticket
but only under the following context:
i also happen to have a single ticket in row dd (seat 40). if someone out
there has another ticket close to seat 40 in row dd that they are willing to
give up, the front row seat is yours in trade. it's that simple.
now please don't write and tell me you have tickets in ff, d, or c or that
you'll clean my house for a year or that you'll name your first born after me,
etc, etc if i sell you this ticket. and don't write to tell me that your
cousin in racine knows a chick in middleton who knows another chick in johnson
creek who might have a ticket but won't know until she milks the cows. that
ain't going to cut it today :)
i simply want to trade my aa ticket for a dd ticket between seats 30 & 39 (the
center section) so i can have two tickets in the same row so i can enjoy the
show with my honey. if i can't work out a trade through the list, i'll just

seasons greetings!
january 2003 marks the eight year anniversary of the lifeblood web site. an
extra special thank you to everyone who has visited the site over the years
and/or contributed material to it. over this holiday season i am working on
bringing the site up to date and am also adding a lot of older material,
and at some point in january lifeblood will surpass 10,000 pages of
information. the site never would have made it this far without the help
and support of the folks on this list (and its previous incarnations),
thanks again to everyone and my best wishes for a happy new year!

such as lexus-nexus or dow jones interactive and might be interested in
doing searches for material for the site please e-mail me at
underdog@earthlink.net. thanks again!

howdy ya'll,
ok, so i have tickets for this delightful show-the
madison civic center, that is-but on the website it
says the orpheum! is this just a typo or should i be
worried at this point? if anyone knows, put my mind
to rest! and if anyone wants to say hi to me there,
i'll be the girl just to the right of center on
emily's side, in the pit section, row ff. waist
length brown hair, most likely wearing a home-made
indigo girls shirt. don't be shy! peace and love
ya'll, merry almost new year!
