subject: [ig-news] ig at e-town

[sherlyn's note: this is an excerpt of a message which was
originally sent to the indigo girls mailing list at
netspace.org.]

took a whole lot of years to finally get them here to e-town, but i have a
hunch that they had such a good time that they'll soon be back.

for those not familar with e-town, i encourage you to go to www.etown.org
to learn more.  it's an absolutely wonderful radio show that air on
stations throughout the country.  we're lucky to have it taped here in
boulder.  great way to check out different music and to learn about great
work being done in the world.

every show has two musical guests, an e-chievement award (which goes to a
listener who is doing some absolutely great work in their community), and
sometimes, a fascinating speaker.  it's hosted by the marvelous duo of nick
and helen forster, and blessed with a great house band, the e-tones.

just fyi, nick said that this show should air in 4-6 weeks.  the taping
runs about 2 hours.  the final show, 1 hr.

today's award winner was an older fellow in kansas who delivers expired
food from supermarkets to food banks.  took him three years before he got
approval to do it.  he's now been at it 7 days/week for over three years.
very cool.  nick was great with him.

the speaker was the former ceo of patagonia who is now the ceo of a
progressive organization focusing on renewable resources.  gave me great
respect for patagonia as well as the work he's currently doing.  great
stuff.  (and, i found out after the show that a friend of mine was
responsible for setting him up as the speaker - she was looking for a way
to get in for ig!)

the other musical guest was dave alvin, formerly of the blasters.  a&e
opened for them many years ago, and were clearly big fans.  (i had seen
dave at an e-town in years past.  talented guy, but i wasn't real into the
stuff he selected for today's show.)

a&e were great, as usual.  it was a great scene.  good vibes in every
direction.

they opened the show with:
gone again
devotion

then nick forster, one of the hosts, conducted an interview with the both
of them, followed by:
become you
she's saving me

then all the other people.  then back to ig for:
moment of forgiveness
yield
galileo

then for the encore, both guests always do a song together, along with the
e-tones.  i think it was shendendoah river (sp?), but don't quote me on that.

it was an absolutely great scene.  a dream come true for me, really, as i'm
a front row, e-town regular.  then here i was, in my own backyard (kind of
like being at cheers) with indigo girls on the stage.  very, very cool.

[...]

hope everyone has a great time in seattle and portland.  i'll catch up with
you in norcal.

lauren

p.s.  both shows, amy struggled with the harmonica solo in become you.
imo, it took a lot of courage to give it a go while still learning.
fortunately, they have a rather supportive crowd.  at the fox show, there
was talk of kazoos for the audience.  she seemed to like that idea...

i'm told that ig will be making an in-studio appearance at kgsr on austin
on the local show day, th, 2/21, at noon.

further, it's my understanding that there will be a small (~30) person
audience.  tune into kgsr for details.
