hi all!
sorry, yet another post... didn't think i'd finish the webpage this quickly
but everything seems to be working, so i didn't want to keep the url
from y'all any longer.
the girls played:
get out the map
become you
deconstruction of love
moment of forgiveness
closer to fine
kid fears
and a song that's presumably called something like:
"my babe"... dunno, never heard it before
they did that one together with all other artists who played at the show.
i mp3ed everything and you can find it at
www.indigogirls.de
click on the words "mp3 downloads!!"
have fun listening.
kathrin

subject: [ig-news] re: wolftrap last night
[sherlyn's note: this is an excerpt of a message which was
originally sent to the indigo girls mailing list at
netspace.org.]
well gang, i'm back after a little mini vacation
starting with the portsmouth show and ending with
a 2-night stand at wolftrap.
i have many observations, so this may be lengthy.
[...]
the crowd at portsmouth was light, and rear side
sections of the orchestra were empty. the crowd
was a 'sit-down' type of crowd for the most part
except for the stage rushers - i'm glad they were
there for the girls to feed off of, energy-wise.
upon recognizing the 5-year old (with the
stage-rushers), it was cute hearing emily's
comment, "she knows the words to collecting you,
y'all, i don't even know the words to collecting
you.... she's just our little indigo
teleprompter."
on to wolftrap - wed show. disappointing that
the set only changed by a few songs. dropped
jonas and ezekial, cold beer and deconstruction
in favor of kid fears and hope alone. (i
think...it's kind of a blur, but i think i'm
remembering that right). still a good show, but
once again, rear corners of the rear orchestra
were empty. there was an exceptionally good solo
on chickenman by emily on this night - listening
hard to this solo with the other so fresh in my
mind - i often wondered if this solo is memorized
or improv-ed. i confirmed that this solo changes
everytime she plays it. 3 nights of chickenman,
3 different solos. [...]
for all you guitar players, if you
didn't know already, i realized pulling my guitar
out after getting home that her solo is played
with the guitar tuned to open d, and just
hammering on /pulling off notes within the
d-scale up and down the neck. [...]
hmmmmmmmmm - also on wednesday - a funny amy
story - she said when they were in germany (or
maybe belgium?) - they had signers like they did
at wolftrap that night, and during ozilline, on
the 'put the dog down' line, the signers had
acted out pumping a shotgun and shooting a dog at
their feet. she hadn't seen it at the time, but
heard from the band later, so now she says that
whenever they have signers on that song, she
always watches to make sure that they don't
express it that way. she was very humorous
about it and apologized if she offended anyone's
sensitivities, then complimented the wolftrap
signers on handling it gracefully.
[...]
another wednesday tidbit - emily introduces the
band and tells brady to stand up and says, "he's
sexy y'all, he's got it going on..." that
was kind of cute.
amy on learning the harmonica, "i notice that i
have a lesser learning curve than other people.
it's like i just get to a point and just stop,
but i keep on trying.... we're all rooting for me
though..." <<loud applause>>
[...]
on to thursday at wolftrap - packed - possibly
sold out. crowd was much more into it, though
ushers were telling people to sit. emily says
(not word for word), "someone just passed me a
note saying that the ushers won't let y'all
dance. this is always kind of a tricky
situation. i think that y'all need to work this
out among yourselves and the ushers can just stay
where they are. i mean, if you really feel the
urge, just turn to your neighbors and say, 'hey,
do you mind if i dance? i just love this song and
i'd really like to dance' and they'll probably
say, 'ok'. you know, it's all good.... peace
y'all."
some other funny stories....
amy said she had gotten lost wandering dc on
buses and the metro. she said in europe, you
expect to get lost because you don't know the
language, but there were always pictures and she
could figure stuff out. she said that
eventually on thursday she just started acting
like she didn't know english so people would help
her. ( i *knew* we should've taken the metro
from our hotel to the zoo instead of driving!!)
emily told a story about a tour a while ago and
the further south they got, the drunker people
got. she said the worst (some of y'all probably
know this story) - was in memphis ( i think she
said memphis), and they were in a lounge - amy
broke in and said, 'no kidding y'all there were
tables and chairs everywhere and it was like a
vegas lounge.' and they had a meet & greet after
the show and this girl was like, 'can you sign my
butt'? and emily said, 'uh.... no....' but they
had joked from the stage that gibson was giving
them free guitars after the show (because there
was a gibson factory right next door), and amy
said she was just making that up, and at the meet
& greet she felt really stupid when a gibson rep
walked up and handed them 2 les pauls. (at this
point, they both present their guitars to the
audience showing that these are their free
guitars.... then they played go.)
emily said she had gone to get a pedicure that
day, "i started getting them about a year and a
half ago, and well.... it's changed my life
really..." so this woman at the salon said, "is
your name emily?" and emily shyly told the woman
yes, and they struck up a conversation. the
woman (karen was her name - on the list any
chance?) was doing some community work building
houses and stuff, so they talked about that. she
had requested 'wood song', so they played it for
her, and pointed her out to the audience and she
stood up and it was pretty cool to see them
acknowledge someone like that in the middle of a
show. especially since you can barely ever see
them even make eye contact with anyone anymore.
the crowd on the third night was more into it,
and i think the girls were too - like it took
them a couple nights to warm back up - though
they were good both the first nights too - i'm
sure the more energetic crowd helped them to be
that way.
so... songs that were rotated in from the
original set posted for the portsmouth show were:
wood song, johnny rotten, and philosophy of
loss. no kid fears. no cold beer, no ghost.
but they brought back deconstruction thankfully -
i love this song.
so, over the three nights, sets included the
following with a few rotations:
>from become you:
moment of forgiveness
deconstruction - rotated
become you
you've got to show
yield
collecting you
hope alone - rotated
bitterroot
starkville
>from cons:
go
trouble
ozilline
cold beer - rotated
philosophy of loss - rotated
>from sots:
shame on you
get out the map
>from swamp:
least complicated
power of two
wood song - rotated
>from rites:
ghost - rotated
jonas & ezekial - rotated
galileo
chickenman
>from nis:
nada - zilch - nothing - figures.... my favorite
album...
>from indigo girls:
closer to fine
kid fears - rotated
tried to be true - rotated (? i think they didn't
play this on wed.)
>from strange fire:
not a thing.
so - anyhow - y'all awaiting a concert, you can
pretty much see what you'll get anyhow. maybe
you'll get some other goodies once the tour gets
in full swing.
oh, one last thing.... amy broke no strings, but
brady broke at least one stick every night....
[...]
rock on

- - something like 9, 10, and 11?). i'll sell them in any configuration:
one, two or all three. but try to let me know asap please if you want
them, so i can make arrangements to get them to you - i will be out most of
tomorrow but could get back to you about 4 or 5 in the afternoon, but
hopefully we'll be in touch before that
