hi y'all,
i don't think this was posted, but it's from last
week's newsday, a queens-based paper. the last
paragraph is of note--a timetable for amy's next solo
album!

there's nothing wrong with singing an anti-war song -
even in post-sept. 11 new york, says emily saliers,
half of the dynamic duo the indigo girls.

"our deliverance," a song on the girls' current
"become you" disc, includes the lyrics "they're
sending soldiers to distant places ... and they want
to tell you it's a merciful sword."

"the song is about wanting violence to come to an end
and how we just send soldiers off to their deaths,"
says saliers, who finishes a two-show stint tonight at
radio city music hall with singing partner amy ray.
"we're accused of being dreamers. one review said it
was a very adolescent song. i realize it's just a
dream, but it's a call for peace, and if that's
adolescent, then so be it."

saliers remembers introducing "deliverance" - which
she wrote partly before and partly after the terrorist
attacks - during a sold-out bowery ballroom show feb.
26. the song won thunderous applause.

"to have the crowd there celebrate peace was very
moving for both me and amy. we almost had to stop
playing," she remembers. "these people had been
through a horrible event and still weren't
bloodthirsty."

the indigo girls will tour to promote "become you"
until around christmas. after that, ray has plans to
record a solo album. the girls (who, by the way, have
never dated: "there's no attraction for either of us,"
saliers says) expect to restage "the indigo girls
project," a program they created last year with the
atlanta ballet, around valentine's day.

i have an extra ticket for the atlanta show on friday.
i paid an extra lot of money for an extra great seat.
but i am willing to except the best offer for the
ticket.  i really must get rid of it.  please email me
privately if you or anyone you know is interested in
the ticket.  the following is where the seat is and
the price i paid for it.  but as i said before i am
willing to let it go for less.
