seattle had spectacular weather today which just added to the awesome ig
performance. early on emily
said "on a day like this, seattle has to be the best place in the world!".
somewhere around become you and power of two, amy invited those standing
behind the roped off area
in front of the stage to come up to the stage. the event staff moved the ropes
aside and those
standing rushed to the stage. it was amazing to watch amy and emily's faces as
they responded to the
people who had come closer-- they smiled, chatted, laughed and there seemed
to be such an exchange
of energy. there were times when emily seemed to be just beaming as she
looked out over the crowd.
at the end of ozilline, amy said "that's for my grandma... rest in peace" as
she
motioned to the
heavens with her hand and her upturned eyes. then she added, "and everyone's
grandma". both amy and
emily sang the song with great respect. they brought the crowd from the "peppy"
part: "when your
body's broken" down to a very quiet, very slow "ask her where it hurts/what a
blessed sky". it was moving.
was it just me?-- i thought i heard emily sing "every five days i look back on
my life and have a
good laugh" instead of "every five years" during watershed.
there was some technical difficulty prior to shame on you so amy took
questions. someone asked how
old she was. amy said that she was getting to the age where you don't tell but
she did admit to
being 38. another question was what did they do today. amy went kayaking, as
did carol (isaacs -
keyboards). emily was on capital hill trying out different foods, claire
(kinney -
bass) was also on
capital hill ??? (fuzzy memory here) and brady (blade - drums) was at the mall
eating.
amy performed johnny rottentail at such a pace and with such intensity, i
thought she was going to
explode. emily's solo in chickenman was equally amazing. i love to watch them
play.
gotta go, it's waaay past my bedtime,
elizabeth
disclaimer: i may not be the note-taker that tracy referred to in her email.
after
the show, my
partner told me that she saw someone else jotting down notes during the show.

subject: [ig-news] re: ig covers
[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo
girls mailing list at netspace.org.]
a member of the ig bbs has recently done a series of interviews with amy and
emily which are being "shopped around" to la weekly and cdnow.com he posted
the following excerpt in which he asks emily about the possibility of a
rarities/cover album and here is what she has to say:
ken k: have you ever thought of putting out a collection of rarities and
b-sides so the fans would have some of those early recordings and
harder-to-find covers you've done?
emily saliers: not exactly. we did the 1200 curfews album, and we spent a
lot of time picking live songs that were special for one reason or another,
sort of different from the studio recordings. but as far as really obscure
stuff, i usually don't like it. (laughs) which is why it remains obscure.
kk: there was a song years ago called "never stop"..?
es: oh god!
kk: when i saw you play that, you said it was going to be the last time you
ever played it. and i remember thinking, "that's too bad," 'cuz it was a
good little tune.
es: (laughing) yeah, it's a good tune, but when i listen to the lyrics now,
it's like, "oh god, please."
kk: so you have those moments when you think back on a song and think, "what
was i thinking?"
es: hell yeah, all the time. "never stop" is a prime example.
