a friend pointed this column in todays star and tribune in a section
called itemworld
here it is.

the indigo girls are known for their activism, but amy ray got more
involved in the minneapolis community than she might have
liked before the group's concert last friday
at the historic state theatre. while biking before the show, ray
happened upon some
guys working themselves up to a fight.

when the talk turned to the guns that needed to
be put away so they could fight like men ("whatever that means") she
dialed 9-1-1 on her cell phone. unfortunately, she only knew she was "
in a park by the mississippi river." ray spent ten minutes trying to
direct the police to the park, but by then the guys "dispersed to play
basketball."

in her fetching concert get-up of braided pigtails, black tank top and
tartan skirt, she looked like a catholic school girl gone bad,
someone who could have restored order herself
with nothing more than a wink and a stern look. (c.k.)

hi there,

i dunno if this has been posted already (i'm on digest) but i just read
an ad for the ig show at the union chapel on 3 aug that says that the
support will be author sarah waters. it's billed as "an evening of words
and music". sounds interesting. have ig ever had a writer as an opener
before?? i confess i'm not familiar with the name but i'm about to go
and do some research!

just 3 weeks to go :-)
