well, i just got back from helping prepare the ig and lift dressing
rooms
for the psu show today. i thought some of you might be interested
seeing
what the girls require for their dressing room while on tour. so,
before i
head back, here it is, word for word:
indigo girls performance rider (revised 2/97)
dressing room catering
to be placed in the indigo girls dressing room at 3:30pm. please
purchase
foods at a natural/health foods store. when available, please use
organically grown fresh vegetables and fruits. no nabisco products.
clean
china and stainless steel cutlery will be provided along with clean
glasses. unwaxed paper cups may be used as an alternative.
1 vegetable tray for sandwiches (for 2) to include the following:
fresh sliced carrots (lots)
1 seedless sliced cucumber
1 sliced tomato
sliced dill pickles
1 bowl humus
a natural herbal dip
please use organic vegetables when possible
1 large bag each:
non-fat potato chips
non-fat pretzels
non-fat corn chips
non-fat blue corn chips (regular may be substituted for those only)
zapp's potato chips (jalapeno or cajun flavor)(optional)
1 bag whole wheat pita bread
6 fresh bagels (plain, sesame or poppyseed only- no raisin, blueberry,
etc.
1 small tub of non-fat bean dip
1 small tub of light cream cheese
1 bowl fresh salsa
2 granny smith apples
2 red delicious apples
3 bananas
2 oranges
assorted herbal teas (caffeine free) and english breakfast caffeine tea
1 box medicinal "throat coat" tea
sliced lemon, sugar, honey, cream for tea
1 six pack diet ginger ale
1 six pack coke classic
1 six pack diet coke
24 1.5 liter bottles of spring water from local spring water company
(please don't bottle yourself)
3 23oz glass bottles perrier water
1 pint natural apple juice or fresh orange juice
1 bottle gatorade light (if you can't find it, get regular)
6 assorted hanson's or corrs natural sodas
6 bottles assorted fruit spritzer
36 bath towels (must be pre-washed)
1 water kettle to boil water only (without coffee smell)
fresh coffee and tea service
inwaxed recycled paper cups, plates, bowls- no styrofoam
cloth or recycled paper napkins
stainless steel cutlery
local newspaper and weekly entertainment magazine
new york times paper
6 local post cards with stamps
well, there it is. that is for the indigo girls and their band alone.
the
crew, and lift are totally separate lists (and a lot less demanding, i
might add). a little birdie told me that this list has become a lot
longer
and more specific in the last few years. we'll see how much gets used.
as
often is the case, there is much left untouched (sheryl crow/wallflowers
had the untouched food taken to the food bank). to those of you seeing
the
show, enjoy!

okay ig fans, the list has been a little dull as of late. so i thought i
would ask a question that hopefully gets some great answers.
what are your most prized ig items? something that you collected that you
cherish, or something that has a special meaning behind it. i'd love to
hear about them.
for me, my most prized ig things are the crazy games record just because i
love the old picture on the cover...and an autographed box for rop. does
anyone remember when cd's used to come in these big tall cardboard box type
things? it was a total waste of resources which is why they didn't last
long. but when i bought rop it was packaged like that. i carefully cut it
out and kept it in my dresser drawer. i just knew that someday i would get
it signed. i think i bought it in 1993. not when it originally was
released, but the next year. anyway, it took me until 2000 to get the
darned thing signed. i was so lucky to be a winner for a local radio
station contest. we got an intimate show with about 50 other people in the
room. after that they signed things for us and chatted briefly. i brought
that thing with me and had it signed. amy made the comment that she hadn't
seen anything like that in years. and that it was the first one she had
signed. so, that is my cherished ig item.

hello lovely people of the list,
i've just resubscribed to this list after several years away from it . . . it's good to be back. :-)
anyway . . . i had a question - or a plea, rather - i apologize if this is something that has been discussed in the recent past. i was at the show at oberlin a while ago (2/15/03) and was completely blown away . . . it had been two years since i'd seen the girls (too long! that is never happening again!), i had never seen them without a band before (what an opportunity to really be able to appreciate exquisite guitar work . . . mmmmm . . .), and there were some really poignant moments experienced that evening for various reasons . . . it was a night i will not soon forget. wow. anyway . . . the point is, i was wondering if anyone out there had made a decent recording of this show? i would so dearly love a copy, if that is at all possible . . . will supply blanks, trades, firstborn . . . whatever's necessary. ;-)
please let me know if you can help . . . and have a most fabulous day. you guys rock. :-)
much indigo-ness,
kristina :-)

great thread, mirinda!
my most treasured ig item is my song/piano/guitar book from their indigo
girls cd. it represents a great deal to me...i bought it back in the summer
of 2000, since my husband gave me a guitar that summer for my 30th birthday
and i was determined to finally learn how to play. i took the book with me
when we road tripped from southern illinois up to iowa in june of 2000 to
see ig play two shows, and was fortunate enough to have both amy and emily
sign the songbook for me. we stood outside for a good 2 hours or better,
most of it during a great summer rain storm. i have a photo of me, looking
like a drowned rat, clutching the book and the box of cookies i'd made for
them while we waited with about 20 other devoted fans. and i didn't know it
at the time, but i was also a few week's pregnant with my daughter. so the
book represents a lot of happy memories for me, including getting a chance
to thank amy and emily for what their music means to me.
hope everyone has a good week!

i think my most prized ig possesion would be a pin that i bought at a stl
concert on the swamp ophelia tour. it is rectangular and has a really cool
flower on it. over the years i have found a few of them, just in case i
loose one, i will have another. i was fortunate enough to get my original
pin signed by emily when we saw the girls in sioux falls, sd a few years
back. i would say that probably two of the best shows i have ever seen were
the show when i bought the pin and the show when i got it signed.

i would have to say that my most prized ig posession......well, it isn't
really ig, it is from amy's stag album tour. it is my signed set list from
when they came to portland, or at the crystal. i fought my way for that
setlist and just happened to see amy after the show getting into her car. i
must have looked like some crazed fan when my friends and i pulled up next
to her car asking for a signature. lol.

it looks like war is immenent regardless of what iraq does.....so in 160
countries around the world, the play, lysistrata, by aristophanes was
read at 6:00 pm central time in thousands of venues, and homes around
the world. in the twin cities we had 16 readings.
before i go,further, for those who've never heard .....lysistrata was
chosen to be read aloud in international protest to the war on iraq,
because it's a comedy about greek women protesting the pelloponesian war
by denying sex to their husbands!
(they win too.) too bad life isn't that simple.
it was also a large fundraiser with proceeds
going toward move on! and madre. i don't know too much about them and
right now my vision is fading i'm so tired.
so if anyone participated....contact me. we'll chat! let me know how
your reading went....we
had a great big concert here in the twin citites.

my most prized posession is a picture i had taken with myself, my gf,
two of our friends and amy. it was taken in february of this year in
bloomington, in. i've been a fan of the girls for over 10 years and
have seen them 11 times but it wasn't until i started reading this list
and the bbs that i realized there are other people more adoring than
myself (or equally so). before summer '02 i had never seen them up
close, gotten an autograph, a setlist, or anything of the sort. this
summer i started trying to get that stuff and i've gotten a few
autographs, a setlist, and some pictures of them while signing. most
recently we actually stood with amy for a photo. what a thrill! i even
talked to her for a minute or two (about the awesome show at the
biltmore last summer). i get a closer glimpse each show.......i can
only hope that continues.:)

hey all,
my most prized ig possession is one of those cardboard, poster-like things
that record stores put up to advertise bands and such. the picture is the
back-cover of the ig album and i'm not sure exactly where i got it. what
makes it special is that in 1990, ig came to cornell where i was a
sophomore. they did a miniconcert and signing at rebop records just off
campus. i was right up front for the miniconcert (it consisted of hammer& a
nail and a folk song i dont' know the title of). then i waited a long, long
time in a hot, stuffy, and crowded store to see them. they signed the
poster-like thing and we got to chat a bit. i was wearing a neil young
tye-dye that i got when i saw ig open for neil in 1989. emily commented on
it and then we talked about neil young. and that was it. the concert that
night was transcendent. truly, it was one of a handful of concerts i've
experienced that have set the bar for live music excellence. additionally, i
was in the front row for it and went with about 9 or 10 good friends from
school.
wow. that took me back.
cheers,
tom m.

if i had to pick one, i would say it is my 1200 curfews ticket. when the live album came out, if you were on the mailing list, you got a promotional ticket printed by epic. the tickets lists the song titles on the album and other information. i use the thing as a bookmark and i feel lost if i do not know what book for which i am using it.
i also liked the rop tourbook that i got signed.

hrmm...after over a decade of this list - probably a gig of email messages 8-)
1. my tape of 4/22/94 - my best friend bill died a few days earlier, i
posted a email in utter shock and grief - someone at unh read it - wrote a
letter to both amy and emily about everything - and emily dedicated ghost
to bill. there were long nights (night like in blood and fire) where the
only thing keeping me alive was the tape and the knowledge someone cared.
2. my first official photo pass during hte 97 swing thru maine where i got
to see ig in a space of less than 50 people.
3. the signed flyer i made for the boston stag show for amy to play duncan
(she did not, but hell, she signed the thing)
4. i dunno - i mean i got the autographs the rare singles and such - i
think the sense of community of going to an ig show now - it is much more
than just a concert experience - and maybe in my old age, i am getting
picky (or i'm just flat broke and refuse to see every show within 500 miles
of me) i'd rather see 1 or 2 incredible shows a yr, than 10 mediocre shows
- if the venue is gonna suck - i will skip shows - (honestly - if i never
see them at harborlights again it will be too soon - crowds are way too
loud and drunk and the sound is not the greatest.)

my favorite ig thing is my autographed ticket from
spitfire at the university of cincinnati three years
ago. amy and emily were really sweet to me that
night. i got to ask them a question during the q&a
part, and then later amy told me she liked my danielle
howle and the tantrums shirt. nothing like being
complimented by someone i find so amazing.
my friend worked the stage at music midtown in atlanta
when they were here a couple years ago and gave me a
setlist and pick. those are pretty darn cool, too.

a really great photo hosting site that a bunch of us on the ig bbs use for
our concert pics is www.ofoto.com <http://www.ofoto.com/>
you have to register to use the site, as well as view it, but its free and
only takes a minute to do so. ofoto has some really great features--like a
comments section for viewers to add their thoughts on your photos, an
address book so you can send internet invitations to your albums quickly,
editing features, and those interested can purchase copies of your photos
directly from ofoto, which is part of kodak.

mi rinda - fantastic thread! what memories you are bringing back...
the first item that comes to mind is the gift i rec'd from my husband about 5 years ago ---- an framed and autographed rop promo poster which started me on my quest to find promo posters for all of their releases. i bet mike now sorely regrets having given me that poster, b/c since then i have spent quite a few bucks on posters, frames, mat cutter/boards and other ig memorabilia to add to my growing collection. most recent addition is the ala read poster, which i love - and also bought and framed as a housewarming gift for my sis-in-law amy this past summer (many of you also know her since she is my ig mainstay buddy...)
my house even has an ig themed room for all of the posters, flats, etc. which has now spilled out into the hallway since all available wall space is taken in the room! btw - i have promo posters for all releases except for ..... strange fire. so - if you happen to know of one that is not too expensive, let me know.
my only regret is that i have never been able to get any of the items signed in person ---- one of these days its gonna happen, i know it! (and gee - i've only been to about 25+ shows over the years....)
take care all -
carrie

i've enjoyed reading this thread.
i first heard of them in early '89. saw my first show the end of that year.
saw more than one in a year for the first time in '91. started going to
multiple shows in '92, which is not an easy thing to do in the western us
where venues are usually hundreds or thousands of miles apart, but i've been
doing it ever since (always in the front).
in spite of the fact that i'm a collector by nature and my world is
surrounded by who collectibles, i've never really gone out of my way to
acquire lots of ig "stuff."
when the question was first posed, i realized that my real answer is that my
most prized possession is the memories of how it felt to be in the front row
for all of the nights when they've been "on." one of the best things there
is.
i still stand by that, but i do also have some "stuff" that i do indeed
"prize."
copies of their earliest press kit photos - wonderfully corny
one time i asked them to sign one. amy signed it right across
her face!
fortunately, it wasn't my only copy!
personal photos with them
tapes of when i've interviewed them
two signed posters that i have framed and hanging:
one from the honor the earth tour in '95
it's signed to me by everyone in the band - amy, emily,
jerry, jane,
and sara + winona and cooper
the other is from voices for choice in washington d.c. in '93
it was the 20th anniv. of roe vs. wade and the night
before clinton's
first inauguration. it's signed by a&e, melissa e., david
crosby,
graham nash, gloria steinham, the women from betty, and
elayne
boosler.
thanks for making me think about it. hope it was fun reading for you.

school library where so many students are gay that the librarian knew to put
up the ani difranco and enrique iglesias posters if she wanted any results -
but i had no idea ig did one! plus, emily is holding a copy of the last
report on the miracles at little no horse (by louise erdrich), which i am
reading right now. i feel hip... also, i went to the site where they sell
the posters (ala.org for the shamelessly interested) and out of maybe 50, 60
celebrities, there are at least six who are in some capacity lesbian icons.
hehe. the literary lesbian is an indisputable fact.
happy to live in minnesota with winona laduke and louise erdrich,

just one more step! we are one step away from
expanding reproductive
rights for women in the united states by making
emergency contraception
(ec) available over the counter.
the women's capitol corporation, maker of plan b - a
brand of ec, is
submitting their application to the fda to make plan b
available over
the
counter on march 20th. on that day, the feminist
majority foundation
will
submit our petition in support of this important
initiative to expand
and
protect women's reproductive rights. we need your
signature!
ec has the potential to prevent half of the unintended
pregnancies and
800,000 of the abortions that take place in the united
states each
year.
sign the petition:
<http://www.feministcampus.org/prescribechoice/ecotc.asp>
ec works for 72 hours after unprotected sex, failed
contraception, or
rape
to prevent pregnancy by interfering with ovulation,
fertilization, or
implantation. ec is up to 95% effective in the first
24 hours and is
safer than aspirin. it is currently available over
the counter in 7
other
countries around the world, including england, france,
israel, and
south
africa, and it meets fda standards for over the
counter status.
according
to the american medical association and the american
college of
obstetrics
and gynecology, forcing women to obtain a prescription
is unnecessary
and
can prevent or restrict access to ec.
every signature matters! sign the petition and tell

subject: sign the emergency petition to the u.n.
dear friend,
i'm hoping you can join me on an emergency petition from
citizens around the world to the u.n. security council. the
petition's going to be delivered to the 15 member states of
the security council on monday, march 10.
if hundreds of thousands of us sign, it could be an enormously
important and powerful message -- people from all over the
world joining in a single call for a peaceful solution. but
we really need everyone who agrees to sign up today. you can
do so easily and quickly at:
<http://www.moveon.org/emergency/>
the stakes couldn't really be much higher. a war with iraq
could kill tens of thousands of iraqi civilians and inflame
the middle east. according to current plans, it would require
an american occupation of the country for years to come. and
it could escalate in ways that are horrifying to imagine.
we can stop this tragedy from unfolding. but we need to speak
together, and we need to do so now. let's show the security
council what world citizens think.
thank you.

hey. the official site, as often, is slow to add this information, but
ticketmaster has the onsale date for the metro, 4/9 listed for tomorrow
(saturday, march 8th) at noon. i'm not sure whose noon it is, but probably
central standard time? good luck to all on those seats. also, if anyone is
finding themselves stuck with an unwanted, beautiful madison ticket... i'd
gladly take it off your hands.

hey...
<<the ig meet-up in buffalo was cancelled also, but so was the dave mattews

i think the whole meetup concept is to blame, not the fans. i mean - you
saw that half the people who signed up for the indigo girls meet up had no
clue that the indigo girls were a band, right? they were just horny guys
wanting to meet chicks.
