oh please, indigo fans!  will someone do me a huge favor?  i set the vcr to
record the premiere of ellen degeneres' new talk show today, and it
malfunctioned (spit the dang tape right out!).  it may not even be on until the afternoon
in your area.  will someone please please please tape it for me?  if so,
contact me privately, and we can work out the details for me to borrow the tape.
i don't know what i could do in exchange.  oh wait, i traded baked goods for
ig boots once.  i am certainly willing to bake again for this cause!  ;-)

dear friend,

if you're concerned about a few big companies controlling our country's=20
access to news, information, and entertainment, please join me in=20
letting congress know now.=20

later this week or early next week, the senate will likely take up its=20
last major vote on media reform, and it'll be very close.  after a=20
grassroots groundswell tipped the balance toward rolling back the fcc=20
rule change that would allow greater media concentration, lobbyists=20
from big media conglomerates have been working around the clock to tip=20
it back.

on wednesday, moveon.org will be holding a crucial press conference=20
with senator dorgan (d-nd) and senator snowe (r-me) and groups across=20
the political spectrum to highlight the broad opposition to the fcc=20
rule change.   moveon needs to show that over 100,000 people have=20
voiced  their demand that the senate vote to roll back the rule=20
change.  please help us reach 100,000 signers by this wednesday --=20
you can join me in signing at:

together, we can make sure that america's media is diverse,
competitive, and balanced.

hkf,
run, don't walk, to get michelle malone's latest release, stompin' ground!!  i've had time to sample it a couple times and it is really growing on me.  it's harder, rockier edge is reminiscent of some band de soliel, drag the river days, with a ton of blues thrown in for good measure.  michelle's voice shines throughout, still proving in my mind she's one of the best vocalists around.  so go check it out, you won't be disappointed.

i agree:

i had a joygasm the two times i saw shed your skin live (but then i was also front row center across from amy) and want muchly for this sort of experience to be repeated. and what about "go"? and "compromise"? all acoustic can be good and nice but a tour with a band also seems to be in order.

julie

susan marine <susmarine@comcast.net> wrote:
hi all, this talk of ideal vs not ideal concert venues has gotten me thinking
about the way that each year's tour really is an event that likely will never
be repeated....case in point: 75% of the songs from each album get played
*only* on the tour associated with that album's release, and then never again.
it hurts my heart to realize we will (in all likelihood) never hear the
following songs live again:

shed your skin (except maybe if we go to the ballet!:))
scooter boys
hey kind friend
cara mia

and from cons:
soon be to nothing
sister
cold beer and remote control

now, granted, these are five of my favorite songs. in looking back at my
reocrds of setlists, none of them have been played since the end of the
respective tours on which the album they are on was rolled out. so, while we
can certianly hope they make a reappearance, like romeo and juliet and some of
the more obscure stuff from the older records like 'let it be me' and 'you and
me of the 10k wars', i myself am resigned to probably not hearing them again.
hurts the heart, it does! i am in the process of trnasferring my boots from
the cons and sos tours to cd since that's probably the last time we'll be able
to access recordings of these songs.

does anyone have an alternate view, with some actual examples of how i might
be wrong about this? :)

i guess it's great they play lots of the same stuff on every tour. i myself
would like it better if they'd dip into their catalog a bit more deeply.

i was the sucker, uh, kind soul dubbing copies of "tipping the velvet" for the list members.

the entire miniseries was indeed three 1-hour episodes long, so if three episodes were recorded, the entire miniseries was recorded.

anyway, i still have the master tape i taped off of bbc america, so if anyone wants a copy of it on vhs from me, e-mail me privately.

fyi on this show...
this showw is on race weekend in charlotte, for those not familiar with nascar (i'm only familiar 'cuz i lived there for 11 years) this means 1,000's of race fans will be driving as fast as they can to the speedway (about 10 miles away from this venue...) and they will be filling all the eating establishments, all the motels...etc...
just a warning if you are coming from out of town plan to get there early...this is the one of the biggest nascar races of the season and traffic will be a nightmare!!!!!!

p.s. the dixie chicks are headlining...not our beloved girls...
and this is a "save the earth" benefit...not an honor show...

dee:)

ah dang!  i don't know about where everyone else is.....but where i am
they are charging up and through the roof. they are at the excel energy
center st paul  mn 10/26.....and the prices are:

main floor $125-$250 ,
$85-$250 2nd level seating,
club level $50-$125,
upper level is $50.

ouch!!!!!!!!!  boy it almost makes me hope nobody shows up at those
prices.....and i thought madonna charged alot. this is rediiculous a
person shouldn't have to put in
six extra work days everytime  they want to go
to a show....besides the girls want us all to boycott excel energy
center anyway. i'm tempted to do that right now.

bummed because i can't go.

bush's war on iraq was based on two big lies: that
iraq had weapons of
mass destruction and iraq was helping al qaeda
terrorists.

bush knew they were lies, but bush wanted to conquer
iraq to steal its
oil for cheney's halliburton and the oil companies
that fund his
political campaigns.

bush's big lies caused the deaths of nearly 300
american soldiers, with
more dying every day. they also caused the deaths of
over 6,000 iraqi
civilians, and the slow deaths of thousands more -
especially children -
through unexploded weapons, toxic uranium dust, and
untreated water.

now the bill is coming due for bush's big lies - and
it's enormous.

bush has already spent $79 billion of our hard-earned
dollars on iraq.
now bush wants $87 billion more. and that only pays
for the next few
months, while the occupation of iraq could last for
years.

america's working families cannot afford these huge
bills. because of
bush's massive $2 trillion tax giveaways to the rich,
state and local
governments are cutting essential services for working
families,
including education and health care. and bush's
massive increase in our
national debt is slowing economic growth and creating
a crushing national debt
- a "birth tax" on future generations.

we, the taxpayers of america, refuse to pay for bush's
big lies. bush
and his rich friends should pay the costs of
rebuilding iraq.

we demand an immediate repeal of bush's tax giveaways
to the rich to
pay for the occupation and reconstruction of iraq.

i know i am really going to get ripped for this but i am so sick of this
"tax the rich" bullshit.  i am by no means rich but the tax cuts of the
past year helped me out.  i am sick of hearing how i should get taxed
until i take home no money because i chose to get a higher-level
education, i choose to pursue climbing the corporate ladder and work my
butt off to make a better life for my family.  and again, i am by no
means rich and come from a lower-middle class family. i am sick of the
fact that 35% of my paycheck disappears and i can't afford the have kids
yet because of this.  why is it my fault some people make other choices.

blaming those who have.

as for the war in iraq, again, i'm sure its totally unpopular here, but

kari,

supporting the war, with its exponentially increasing cost, and
simultaneously wanting lower taxes is impossible--such logic is inherently
flawed.  we'll be paying for this debacle for a very long time.  and those
like you and i--higher education, middle income, no children--will bear a
large portion of that additional tax burden. i suggest you take some time
to study the bush budget; it is not, alas, aimed to offer relief to the
likes of you and i.

in addition, if you "get ripped" because of your message, i suggest that
it's due to the incivility of your tone when you flamed an informational post.

hey folks,
i just wanted to pipe up here a bit and rave about the patti smith art

exhibit at the institute of contemporary art in philadelphia. if you live in
the area, or plan to visit between now and december 7, see this show! there
are some amazing drawings, paintings, mixed-media pieces. there are a lot of
images of the last remains of the south tower, very moving. there also are
some
photographs and a few other odds and ends. wow!
deb
