hey everyone -

ok, so i am dying for new music (and too broke to buy any) and i was thinking
about how many great artists i learned about last time i participated in a
tape loop.   so i was wondering if anyone wants to do a cd loop ?

the basic idea is everyone makes a mix cd - without indigo girls (although
this is negotiable - its just what we did before)  of their favorite artists,
local artists, special live versions of their favorite songs - whatever - just
stuff you think other people would like or someone they should know about - and
then we will be set up in a loop - you send your cd to the next person on the
list - if they like it, they make a copy for themselves and then they send it
on to the next person.  it's pretty simple, as long as people who say they
are going to do it, actually do it.

so if anyone is interested, send me an email with your name and address and i
will organize them and get back to you....

here's a bit more, from the billboard site:

the indigo girls were right at home in the acoustic setting,
harmonizing with ease of "closer to fine" and "galileo" (featuring
crosby on vocals) and rocking out with authority on "chickenman." as
a request for one of the bridge school students sitting on a riser at
the back of the stage, the duo ran through a few bars of "old
mcdonald had a farm."

well, i went.  and of course, i was most looking forward to them.  i'm almost
never disappointed by an ig show, but on sunday (the only show i saw) i was
disappointed, probably due to the crowd being mostly made up of incubus/pearl
jam fans.  you know, they didn't seem to be themselves, and obviously they seem
most comfortable when everyone is there just to see them. they didn't talk
much, and they didn't seem as into it as they usually are.  chickenman and
finlandia were the high points for me.   here was their setlist, best i can
remember.

yield
go
closer to fine
old macdonald (for a kid named harold)
chickenman/bitterroot
galileo (with david crosby)
finlandia (the first time i ever heard this live.  totally blew me away.)

and then they came out with everyone at the end for teach your children.

looking very forward to the three sf filmore shows i'm going to next month,

susannah

i hate to say this, but bridge school has turned into a ritual gathering of
pearl jam fans whenever they play there - i guess it would be like pearl
jam playing newport. (am i the only one who wouldn't mind a nice acoustic
set at ft. adams...)

oh - just so you know how obsessive fans are - the shows are already online
by fans and will be probably trading in dvd soon...pearl jam - not ig - but
i think i know of a person who usually dats the entire show...

actually, i can't think of anything better than to have a horde of
rabid pearl jam fans being seeded with some indigo girls.  pj and ig
are two of my "main 4" (the other two being u2 and nin), groups that i
find somehow fascinatingly similar and completely different.  i've
often thought about how great it would be if there were more crossover
between the crowds, especially between pj and ig...  perhaps a few new
fans were made that night!

i'm very sorry to bug the whole list but does anyone make the drive from oberlin (right by cleveland, oh) to chicago or vise versa on weekends or holidays? do you know anyone who does? my girlfriend and i are broke and in a long distance relationship (i am a recent graduate and she is still a student) and we really want to see eachother. please help? how are we to play with eachother's toes without your help?! look at it this way: you will get help with gas/toll money and driving, you'll get cool company and you will get to see kitzie and i purr with eachother and be cuter than lesbian kittens. mew!

if you can help please contact me and if you know someone else who could please contact them. we will love you forever!

thanks in advance,
julie

dear honor the earth friends,

congress is nearing a decision on a piece of legislation that will
determine the country=a1=a6s energy policy for the next three decades.
we need your help in opposing this dangerous bill that threatens our
communities and the environment.

the national energy policy act of 2003,=a1=a8 or h.r. 6, is a
reprehensible package of subsidies that favors the energy industry while
further disenfranchising citizen and environmental interests. this
backwards bill puts our communities at risk to more air and water
pollution, increases the country's oil dependence, fails to modernize
the electricity grid, and saddles taxpayers with billions of dollars in
corporate giveaways. absent is a plan to foster the development of
renewable energy, to advocate conservation and efficiency, and to
support more democratic power production in local communities.

please send a letter to your senators by

dear honorable ___________,
i am writing to urge you to oppose h.r. 6, which threatens our
communities and the environment by providing the united states with a
backward energy plan.
several sections of h.r. 6 cause me great concern including:

=84h the =a1=a7indian energy title,=a1=a8 or title iii amendment, as
introduced by sen. ben nighthorse campbell (r-colo.), which streamlines
the approval process for new energy projects on tribal lands allowing
tribes to submit proposals directly to the secretary of the interior
bypassing the additional approvals that help can help protect the
communities as projects evolve over time. with passage of this title, we
are concerned that exploitative and environmentally unsound business
practices will dominate energy development on native lands. =84h the
opening of alaska=a1=a6s arctic national wildlife refuge to oil
drilling, which will disrupt gwich=a1=a6in communities and local caribou
herds for a mere six-months=a1=a6 supply of oil.

=84h the repeal of the public utility holding company act (puhca), which
would allow for the expansion of deregulation and may lead to increased
energy costs in tribal communities where markets are often unformed and
competition is too scarce to drive down energy prices. =84h the billions
of dollars allocated to the nuclear industry for research and
development, construction of new reactors, and to fund
=a1=a7in-situ=a1=a8 leaching uranium mining projects.
=84h tax breaks given to big energy companies estimated between $14.5
billion and $18.1 billion.

=84h the open door given to the u.s. department of the interior to
inventory oil and natural gas in the outer continental shelf off the
u.s. coast, paving the way for drilling in ecologically-sensitive
coastal areas.

as well, i oppose =a1=a7the national energy policy act of 2003=a1=a8 as
it fails to include a =a1=a7renewable portfolio standard=a1=a8 requiring
utilities to incorporate renewable energy sources, such as wind and
solar, into their production portfolio.

a truly visionary energy bill not only would look toward the development
of renewable energy but would also give voice to communities looking to
supply the nation with clean, homegrown electricity such as the
twenty-three indian tribes that have over 250 gigawatts of wind
generating potential. those tribes live in some of the poorest counties
in the country and yet they are putting up wind turbines that could
power america- if they had more contracts and access to power lines,
which h.r. 6 does not provide.
senator _________, i ask you take every step possible, including
mounting a filibuster, to defeat h.r. 6.
thanks for your support.

sincerely,
