well, holy crap. i'm a graduate student in religion, and i was about an inch
away from going to this conference; decided against it because i couldn't
muster up enough company from my cohorts (we're still in the early stages; most
people don't start going for another few years) to split a hotel room.

i just had to share my pain. that is all.

yeah, it kind of bugs me that spiritual help, a ministry,  costs money.
i was taught that all
are supposed to freely give when it comes to
matters of faith and acts of corporal mercy.

i think should be a concern to each of us as human beings....it should
be of even greater
concern that they're charging $330.00.....isn't
that make it so that christian spirituality is only
for the rich? i wonder what emily thinks about
that.

i'm not knocking her for wanting to share her faith and do so with her
father, but she has made attempts to keep her concert prices down, i
would think she'd have something to say about that as well? anyone?

i forgot to menton that i'm not speaking of her keeping her concert

that this religious "super bowl"  costs so much.

it looks like it's only for an elite few.

it doesn't - just wander into your local place of worship. or hit the =

this is completely different. it's a religious scholarship conferencem,
which *does* cost money, because well you have to hire rooms for those =

friday, 7:00 pm-9:00 pm
sponsored by the <a href="../../other/rso.asp">society for the study of christian spirituality
mark s. burrows, andover theological seminary, presiding

join don saliers and emily saliers for an evening of musical performance and conversation about spirituality and the musical arts.  the program will explore ways that music deepens life by creating, sharing, and improvising across so-called sacred/secular differences.  is there a lyric truth that refuses to side with either saturday night or sunday morning?  can music become a bridge between such cultural divides?  emily saliers is a member of the indigo girls, a pioneering music duo with two decades of collaboration, eleven records, a grammy award, several platinum cd's, and commitments to the environment, native american children, habitat for humanity, and human rights.  don saliers teaches theology and liturgy at emory university, and is a past president of the society for the study of christian spirituality.

what neil said. it's an academic conference, like mla or any other academic
association puts on. that article diane posted listed sort of spicy paper
topics, but i can guarantee that 90% of the talks delivered are on much more
wonkish or pedestrian subjects. i doubt that anyone would, you know, care that
it's so expensive if not for the fact that a musician is there.

and while i'm here, i do love me some emily, but "a song to sing, a life to
life" has to be about the cheesiest book title ever. not like i won't but it
or anything, but cripes.

soa is the school of the americas.  they renamed it but i don't remember what they changed it to.  it's basically a terrorist training camp run by the american military in georgia.  most of the assassins who have done their work in latin america and other places over the past long time have been trained at the soa.

hey y'all,

i was hoping to be able to bring a copy of the georgia music hall of fame
video to my family's thanksgiving shindig.  ya know, shere part of my life and
what i have been up to for the past year with them.  seeing that i leave
tomorrow morning, i think it's too late to do that.

but i am dying for a copy of the video (taped from gptv).  i was there and it
was one of the best nights of my life (ok, well, not every part of the thing
;) ).  anyway, i have an extra indigo girls poster from the sf fillmore (from
this year's shows) that i am willing to trade for a copy of the video. the
posters are good collectables.  this year's poster was white with various shades
of blue.  it says "indigo girls" and has the dates of the shows listed.  there
is a picture of a fox (i think).  no picture of ig on it (fillmore posters
hardly ever feature the artists' pictures).

please let me know if you are interested or if you have a copy of the program.

thanks and happy thanksgiving!

"in our hearts, amy and i have a song of justice and peace for georgia. where
one day our communities will know each other better and fully celebrate our
diversity. gay people, such as us, will be allowed to marry. rivers and lakes
and air will be clean. our flag will stand for the unity of all. and we will
remember our brothers and our sisters all over the world who suffer from
oppression and we will work to alleviate suffering wherever we find it. we will study
war no more. let music be the healing power." -- emily saliers' (indigo

tickets to that it is silly to suggest...
