back to your regularly scheduled concert reviews. i take back everything i
said about ig yesterday because they performed such an awesome show in
chicago tonight. [...]
this was an amazing night. amy has made no secret about her love of playing
the metro and the smile on her face all night showed why. after reading
about the madison show and the lukewarm crowd it does explain how
appreciative they were tonight. the crowd knew practically every word to
every song. when folks were singing along to cold beer and remote control,
emily gave that little "i'm impressed" smirk.
[...] kim richey was awesome. the
crowd loved her and cheered loudly for her stuff. i had never heard her and
was impressed. [...]
so the girls open with least complicated. i'll have to defer to someone
else for the full setlist. some others off the top of my head...ozilline,
power of two, virginia woolf (emily had comments about ms kidman's oscar),
she's saving me, get out the map, deconstruction, ctf (kim richey was called
out but showed up on stage half way through the song--she looks like a
stoner), and awesome oldies like land of canaan, watershed and world falls.
the encore was galileo and finlandia. they did play 2 new songs. for the
life of me i can't think of a single line in them to refer to. i had never
heard either. they brought out sheet music so these must be reaaal new.
someone else please get us some details on these. they were both excellent
and the crowd was soooo good...listened without heavy chatter. the new
songs had great harmonies making me quite psyched for their next cd.
other randomness...just ongoing kudos to chicago and the metro all night.
girls explained how they were in madison and just couldn't be so closeby
without doing a metro show. they were appreciative of the huge turnout
considering they just played in chicago a month or two ago. there was
mention of the start of the honor the earth tour tomorrow, along with some
accompanying politics but it was very appropriate and not at all preachy
(this is all i ask for). some comments about peace and "these troubled
times" but an otherwise happy and peppy concert. crowd was very in control.
no pushing, no drunkenness (besides maybe my own), no annoying squirmers
trying to rush the stage, no anger, no bra burning, plenty of dancing,
plenty of energy, plenty of singing in all the right spots. i am on cloud
9. look forward to more reviews.--greg
