hmmm, i'm jealous of all of you who have the album already.  i would have
thought by now that the cd i ordered from sony would have been here by now.
but it isn't.  maybe they are reprinting the posters and that's why they
have the delay.

i've read what all of you have said about the varying packages you get from
sony, so i'm not worried at this point.  but i will call or email them.

another thing is, have any of you gone through a period in your life where
you just took a break from listening to music?  i mean, i still listen to
the radio when i drive--and end up flipping around, then listening to npr or
the news.  just curious.

diane  p.s. thanks for the concert and album reviews, y'all. =)

we, that is my friend and myself - not me and amy ;-d, have realised that we
have the tunes on an almost continuous loop in our heads when we arent
listening to the cd. we have been asking each other 'what song now' for the
last couple of days and, amazingly, have only had the same song at the same
time on one occasion!

i'd ask what their favorite song is that they have written, and then their favorite song that the other wrote, and why. maybe if i was feeling especially brave i'd ask about their *least* favorites too!

i've always wondered.....

so, in everyone's reviews, i have yet to read any
heavy discussion surrounding what these songs are
about, or what they mean.

it used to be, in the 'good ol' days', i'd get my
new ig cassette, and i could identify with so
much of what they wrote, i felt an instant
kinship, but now, i feel that in some cases, i
analyze a song to death, and still don't 'get it'
until someone in a q&a, explicitly asks the girls
what they were thinking.  anyone else feel like
this?

so, cordova - person or place?  ex-lover, friend,
maybe a lost beloved pet?  please - enlighten me
if you know.  and what is 'tupperware kin'?

and also, 'rise up your dead'?  catchy tune, but
can't really get into it because i don't know
what she's talking about.  i'm sure there are
many interpretations - you guys are always full
of good ideas - shed some skin - ooh - i mean
light on this one for me.  i'm thinking maybe
dead ideas?  dead feelings?  dead attitudes?

overall i love the album.  and i don't know why
so many are averse to the heartache song.  when i
got the album, on the first listen, i liked it so
much, i think i played it four times, kept
hitting repeat, before listening to the rest of
the album.  i love it - it's so different and
bouncy and fun.  and i love emily's little high
harmonies at the end - fun to sing.

the album touches me emotionally in so many ways.
it's really a tour de force in that way.  i get
all misty and drop tears all in my lap when i'm
driving to work listening to it.  from amy's 'why
can't we get it right' songs to emily's 'thank
god i have someone i love to take care of me when
life gets scary' songs.  i can really identify on
both counts.

and the 'something real' song - i had a friend in
college who i was so tight with, people used to
ask "how are y'all doing" even when she wasn't
around, because it was like she was my left side.
then she found out i was gay and dropped me so
abruptly, i've never gotten over it to this day -
so, that's what i tend to think about when i hear
that song - we had a slight reconciliation *on*
an outside wall, instead of next to one, but she
never spoke to me after that, and i imagine that
many of us lesbian folk have had similar
experiences - unfortunately.  so anyhow - what
i'm trying to get around to is the fresh boys
playing football line - it makes perfect sense to
me because it's reminicient of school days, and
that's where my old friend was, so anyhow, i
think that's all she's saying is that the
environment of the friendship was high school or
college.

i guess that's enough for now.  gotta go to ikea.
road trip!  guess what i'll be listening to.....
ha - wrong!!!  after listening to atwli about 20
times, i'm ready to pull out become you and give
that a whirl on the ol' cd player.

howdy ya'll,

this really is a great thread.  and it's interesting, i'd be curious to see if/how, based on when you came into the ig and where in your life you were (ie, college, 30-something, still a teenager), that would affect your choices and if there is a consensus among people who came into them at the same time/same age-group.  anyway, here are mine.  and for the record, i came in after cons was released and before by.  i was about 19 when i found them.

1. rop
2.by
3. atwli (2 and 3 are somewhat tied, but i had to choose!)
4. so
5. sots
6. ig (5 and 6 were also nearly impossible to place before/after each other)
7. sf
8. cons
9. nis

such a toughie!  truth be told though, and i'm sure most folks would agree, the numbers are somewhat arbitrary since i do love them all an awful lot.  peace and love and happy sunday to everyone!
