ig in nyc -
it's a today show taping.

dunno - seems waaaaaay too depressing to be in the city that day...

(my opinion only)

my ig hearing was tonight - i had a back issue all afternoon and slept a
bit, friend called and wanted to know if i was up to seeing sonic youth.
without a pause - of course - got to the venue - got a ticket below face
from someone (dont think it sold out even, but it gets better.)

a starbucks is across the street. i think they on their pa they played the
orphan song by gillian welch, then...kid fears. a chai with a shot of
expresso never felt so much like ecstacy....very cool - so i roll back to
the venue - see three of my good friends (two of whom i also saw at ig @
merrill) - turns out they both thought i was at newport folk...but i mixed
up dates and ended up not going. i wont go into details - but sy is
incredible - and my friends showed me how cool they were and how awesome
the band is. email if you want the whole story, but maaaaaaan they make
neil young seem like he never uses distortion. and i knew it was going to
be a good show cuz whenever ig play kf during a set - they seem waaay more
connected to a crowd, or maybe just play songs i like live more...

sy was a band i have waited to see and wanted to see since 1991... well
well, worth it...

mime-version: 1.0

i know we have all heard ig in strange places, like muzak'd versions in the
aisles of markets/stores, studio versions during television shows or upon
entering a restaurant or shop - but i have a new one for you!

my family and i went to idaho for a week at the beginning of august for a
bit of r&r (don't knock it until you've tried it - i have been vacationing
there since i was about 6 yrs old - and where we go is like a much less
populated lake tahoe - right on a lake for summer water sports/activities
and with a ski resort and all the trimmings for the winter folk....  i have
a great resource for a whole bunch of info if you want it - email me
privately if you want info...)...

as usual, i digress - upon exiting the plan and taking the lloonngg walk to
baggage claim at the boise airport( not really that long, but considering
we left calif. at 6am, almost missing our flight and then arriving in boise
with our brains still asleep after a 1 1/2 hour flight)  i was astounded to
hear the studio version of 'perfect world' playing along the
hallway/concourse as we were making that trek - my son even started singing
along - i considered it a very good omen and promptly attempted to wake up
and be cheerful! (didn't work - i slept in our rental car the whole way to
our destination!)

happy monday,
carrie

hey all,

jodie is doing better.  she was extubated on friday (the 13th), three days after her last surgery.  friday was a busy day for jodie.  she had her central iv line changed, from one side of her neck, to the other.  well, at first it was in her shoulder/upper chest area.  had an x-ray, saw it wasn't in correctly, then had the central line moved (again) to the right side of her neck.  the "a" line that was in her right wrist from surgery, which they had been using for blood samples and that kept constant track of her blood pressure, exploded, as jodie explained, on friday morning, too.  before all the hubbub with her central line.  it was spurting blood everywhere, and her nurse got it under control and then they just removee it.  jodie had her hair washed (for the first time in about two weeks).  before her surgery, she was feeling so bad she kept insisting that she didn't want it washed because she just didn't care.  the regular shampoo caps they have don't help her hair at all
.  they almost seem to make her hair worse.  but, finally, she got her hair washed with her 'real' shampoo and it looks decent again.  she is in much better spirits and has been making plans for the fall with our friends to go to amusement parks.  she was never much of a ride-fan anyway, but just the idea of 'making plans' is a nice change of pace.  her side incisions are about 6 inches long each.  jodie said they don't hurt much, which is good.  her pain meds have steadily decreased from 35 mg back to 10, which is right about where she was pre-third-surgery.  she also started back on the tube feeding on friday.  the amount has slowly increased each day, closer to where she was pre-surgery also.

thank you so much to those who have sent cards, books, cds, and postcards!!!  thank you kindly!  jodie and i appreciate it very, very much!

peace, melissa

soooooo as i'm sure some of you are also rockstar wannabe's you understand the dream of karaoke. and i'm sure you, like me always scroll through the indigo girls section, just in case. ususally you find songs such as ctf, lc, po2, i dont wanna talk about it, and shame on you.  usually you just get ctf or i dont wanna talk about it. so as i was scrolling through this weekend i saw none other than "perfect world". very exciting. just thought you'd like to know....

i had an odd ig moment a few weeks ago.

i was in a drug store buying a card for a member of this list. as i was walk in the store, what should i hear but an ig song on the store sound system! i call that a great coincidence.

more recently,i was shopping again in another store and i was getting tired of hearing the 1980's boring pop on that store sound system. all of a sudden, what comes on but "peace tonight"? i stopped wanting to complain after hearing that.

sunday night, i saw a premiere showing of "edgeplay: a film about the runaways". it is a documentary about the 1970's all-girl band directed by vicki blue, a former bass player for the band. the film was very frank about what life was like for the teenage pop stars. members of the band included lita ford and joan jett. even if you are not a fan of the music, when the film opens next month, check it out.
