i respectfully disagree that philly audiences sit during shows. they sit
during the beginning especially during slow tempo songs but usually a large
part of the audience (if not all) will rise to its feet during an up tempo
song as they did for "shame on you" friday night and then they are up or
down depending on the mood that is being created by the artists on stage.

i've been to many shows at the mann where the crowd was on their feet for
much of the girls set (except perhaps the lawn people who tend not to stand
b/c then most of the people behind can't see. personally, i hate people who
stand and or dance the _entire_ show even during quiet songs because i feel
you are there to both see and hear them and it is rude to stand for the
concert's entirety because unless you are in the very back row you are
blocking the view of someone who either can't stand for a prolonged period
or chooses not to. there are way too many inconsiderate people out there who
forget that a concert is a shared experience.

if i recall correctly, at one point during "get out the map" (might have been
a different song, something at the very beginning, when i was still in my
seat: pre-rushing the stage!) -- amy wandered away from her mic and then
remembered she had a line to sing (the "i can sense a resting place" line)... she was
very cute, laughing about it.

not as cute as she was, though, from 6 ft. away -- when some of the (yes!
sitting!) audience finally rushed the stage a bit to sing and dance. at least the
guards weren't like they are at the mann, when emily has to "ask" them to
allow folks to dance in the aisles.

other highlights: lots of audience singing at the end on galileo - amy &
emily were, as usual, surprised and delighted, esp. as it was their last show on
this tour and said they were thankful "to go out" on such a high note. hearing
"wood song" and "let it be me" and "our deliverance" in one show (did anyone
tape it?), plus "let me go easy" (although, without explanation from amy re:
it's history) as requested by someone she met in penn station. and "cordova" was
just beautiful, even if amy sounded a bit tired (she did - i noticed on some
songs, she didn't sing the usual harmony lines as well/completely/ at all).

hey kids.as i was driving around this afternoon i caught part of radio show
'speaking of faith'. the show plays here in milwaukee on wednesdays and
sundays on one of our public radio stations.

anyhow, today's show was called 'at table: the meaning of communion'. it
looks at the social significance of behind the concept of communion. one of
the show's guests is none other than don saliers. of what i caught, while
driving, it was an interesting show, especially with thanksgiving
approaching.

the show can be heard online at
http://speakingoffaith.publicradio.org/programs/2004/11/18_communion/.

and yes, emily is mentioned, but only in relation to the book she worked on
with her dad.
