if ig were to record a christmas/holiday album, what songs would you
like to see them do on it?

i'd like to see them do an acoustic arrangement of "for unto us a child
is born" from handel's messiah.  maybe get a bongo player, a couple
more voices, very mellow / campfire arrangement... i think the
harmonies and such would be awesome with the girls' voices!

tickets for the tahoe/stateline gig go on sale at 10a monday through
ticketmaster.

they are already on sale directly through caesar's.  however if you
call caesar's, they will not be able to tell you where your seats are.
in order to find that out, you need to go to caesar's tahoe and buy
them in person.

i've been thinking about this lately. i'd love to have an ig holiday

why. i hope i'm wrong!

i'm not up on my handel, but that sounds interesting.

i think i'll go with an old classic. silent night. back to basics with
the guitar and harmonies, the way it was written. they'd sound fantastic.
hmmmmmmmmm....i'm not sure what else.

hey all!

"i'd like to see them do an acoustic arrangement of "for unto us a child is born" from handel's messiah. maybe get a bongo player, a couple more voices, very mellow / campfire arrangement ..."

believe it or not, when i was back in high school, our high school concert choir did something very similar to this arrangement with this very song for our community holiday concert. it opened with a nice bongo line that continued through the song and i can still remember my alto part ... it was really quite beautiful and a lot of fun to perform!

i have a joan baez guitar/songbook of holiday songs and it always makes me wish ig would do a holiday album, or at least a few more covers. hearing emily sing river makes my heart ache it's so beautiful. o holy night or we three kings would be fabulous. i think ig and girlyman could do some beautiful harmonies ... maybe the first noel?

happy sunday!

i would hope they would do my two favorites: carol of the bells (w/girlyman
or the roches on harmonies?) and god rest ye merry gentlemen. they could
also do dave matthews' "christmas song." that's one of the most beautiful
and truthful xmas songs ever written.

hey,

i was at the ani difranco show in red bank nj last night and if anyone is
interested, here is my brief review:

dan bern opened and he was excellent. he got the nj crowd going by starting
with a cover of bruce's "thunder road." his second song was a hilarious ode
to the 22nd amendment (look it up and you'll see why it's so topical).

ani was awesome, as usual. she played four or five songs off the album that
is coming out next year. by the sound of them, it's going to be a great
album. she played a good selection of songs, including "little plastic
castle," "napoleon," and "god's country." she played "animal," which is my
favorite song off of the latest cd and ended the show with "both hands"--i
seriously could've died happy right then and there. she talked about the
votedammit! tour but didn't mention the girls specifically. ani said the
good thing that might come out of the election was that we wouldn't be
complacent anymore. she was wearing a black tshirt that said "c##t" on it,
and said that her bassist usually wears his matching shirt but she forgot to
tell him it was "c##t night." i thought it was funny.

my only complaint about the two ani shows i've seen is that at each one she
played for only about an hour and 15 minutes. that's a little short in my
opinion. is that normal for her?

hope i didn't bore anyone.

cheers,

tom m.

this album came out a couple of years ago.  ig sing backup on one

yeah, because she is solo, her band shows were longer

but after a bunch (lost count) of band shows since 93, her two solos shows
i saw last yr just seem much more completely intense performances...

buy the official bootlegs - portland is two cds for 10 bucks!!!!!

and her new dvd is wicked good too (ayuh, a maine native)

it would indeed be pretty great to hear them cover some old classic
carols, but what i would love would be to hear one or more original
holiday songs from them. and i would like it if such songs were not just
about christmas specifically.

you are all so helpful, i was wondering if you could help me out.  my niece has an an audition for the academy of dramatic arts in new york city on january 4.  she's got transportation to the city (we are in buffalo) but she is having the hardest time finding somewhere to stay.  mostly because she doesn't know anyone there and also because she's broke!
i was hoping someone here may have some ideas.  it would only have to be for one night and funds are low, like i said.  i thought it would be perfect to find some college student who could just let her and a friend crash at their place.  or perhaps someone knows of a youth hostel in the area.  any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  she and her friend are both 21.
thanks in advance for all of your help, i just know if there's a solution, ya'll will be the ones to find it!
