[sherlyn's note: this is an excerpt of a message which was originally sent to

it was great to see ig finally appear on charlie rose tonight.  the
interview started with a full version of perfect world that looked like
it was from the bottom line dvd that came with the atwli cd.  there was
the usual banter about how they met and getting the band name from the
dictionary etc.  amy talked about support from the "queer community".
[...]   amy said
that being a lesbian definitely matters in the progression of their
music etc.  (at least that was the impression i got).  with that said,
amy was pretty clear that she felt sexism also played a role in why
they don't  get as much attention as other bands who aren't as good.
she even referred to herself as a more masculine woman.

they talked about their musical influences and their
songwriting/collaboration process.  amy said neil young was her biggest
influence over the long haul with emily citing joni mitchell and stevie
wonder.  had no idea about stevie.  learn something everyday.  amy also
talked about her dream of getting played on rock radio.  and who know
amy lived in the woods by a river.  sounds like paradise!

and my favorite part of the interview was in regard to voting and kind
of touched on the recent discussion right here.  while both a and e
seemed to prefer kucinich or sharpton they (correctly in my opinion)
realize that the bigger goal of getting rid of bush is more important.
they commented again on being disappointed in kerry and how he isn't
radical enough, but clearly seemed to hint that they'd vote for kerry
to get rid of bush.  i totally agree.  [...]  glad my girls
concurred.  just love em!  greg

good morning kiddies,

just got home from st. louis and my ears are still ringing from the total rock experience of the indigo girls!!  fantastic energy, probably the most rockin show i've seen them put on.  power of two was the slowest moment of the evening and they got it out of the way early, though it really didn't dampen the energy as everyone in the room was screaming the lyrics!  lots of good singing, as was commented by the girls.  we were even allowed to sing one of the "fill it up again"'s - was surprised at how many sang that phrase being new and all.

as always, idiots screaming galileo from like the second song on!!!!!!  uggggghhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

probably incomplete and definetly not in order setlist:

tether (f**king rocked neil young style)

fill it up again

tried to be true

yield

power of two

love's recovery (wonderful)

get out the map

faye tucker (awesome)

shame on you - during which point brady blade and another man went around the stage mock sweeping and mopping - don't know why - don't think amy even noticed, emily smiled once.  then, when em is supposed to give up her banjo, amy's guitar went out leaving only the accordion.  once emily got her guitar, it wouldn't work either!!!  they apologized afterwards and went through about two minutes of scratching their heads.  both asked if we had any questions but it was far too loud and unruly to have any kind of q&a.  finally everything was back in order and amy said that both of them having technical difficulties at the same time has never happened before!  it was bizarre, you could tell amy was getting kind of anxious.  we (michelle and i - hi michelle!!!) determined that the "cleaning crew" messed something up with their little play.  they'll pay for it later :-)

go - best live version i've ever witnessed

heartache for everyone

least complicated

perfect world

free in you

closer to fine (w/shawn mullins)

moment of forgiveness

rise up - emily said she wrote this while being depressed about bush getting elected

virginia woolf - emily's vocals were amazing on this

kid fears (w/shawn mullins)

encore:

dairy queen

galileo

i believe that's all.  if i forgot anything i'm sure you'll be updated.  going to bed now, oh wait, gotta set the vcr for breakfast with the arts.

peace y'all!!!!!!

joey

subject: [ig-news] recent ig tv performances

[sherlyn's note: this is an excerpt of a message which was originally

the indigo girls mailing list at netspace.org.]

now that amy and emily have left new york city, it is time for me to
reflect on the tv appearances they taped while they were in the big
apple.

"the ellen show": it was fun to watch ellen sing "closer to fine"
with a+e as the show ended. although i hate how the network shows
always cut off their songs to show the commericials or the closing
credits. they also performed "perfect world".

"the today show": i missed that episode. darn!

"the view": i loved how the show pointed out that back in 1997, a+e
were the first musical guests ever on "the view". they did a nice
version of "perfect world".

"cbs saturday morning": the interviewer, tracy smith, pointed out how
much she loved their music and how she is always singing along with
the songs, often while being told to "shut up" by her friends. a+e
seemed flattered. onced again, they did "perfect world" and as they
were performing two other tunes, they were cut off to go to a
comercial and the closing credits. it was also cute to watch them eat
the dish the visiting chef was preparing.

"charlie rose": it was the longest interview they did. charlie rose
pointed out that fans include the members of his show staff who were
so glad a+e finally got so sit at the interview table. i get the
feeling the staff told charlie about the calls and emails we fans
sent asking when they would appear. nice going folks! i loved how
emily pointed out how she would love to see bush defeated because of
the "havoc" he was brought since being elected. you go girl! he
mentioned a few of the causes amy and emily support.

"breakfast with the arts": a+e wore the exact same outfits on this
show as they did when they taped "the view" show, so i gather both
segments were taped the same day. amy wore a black print shirt and
blue jeans and emily wore an yellow satin tour jacket over a while
blouse and blue jeans. this show respected their music the most
because they got to perform "perfect world", "galileo" and "heartache
for everyone" in full with no interruptions. the song titles were
even flashed on the screen. i wish they would do that show on the a&e
network more often.

i taped all of the shows i reviewed and will prepare a copy featuring
highlights of these performances if there is enough interest. please
email me privately, if you'd like a copy.
