what a show...i even got more than 90 minutes...hour and 45 minutes! this
venue is magic. really. performers who usually  speak nary a word turn
chatty. lucinda williams was the last one. played for two and a half hours.
talked up a blue streak. played stuff she hadnt played for years.

amy and emily were chattier than ive ever seen them. and they played the
one cover ive always longed to hear live!

this place doubles as an old time movie house. about 900 seats. when they
walked out, amy said "well, it's cozy in here." after the first song emily
said "it really does feel like a movie theater." someone yelled "it is." she
said "i know!"

and that was only the beginning. first, here's the setlist -- but first let
me say this. and maybe this will offend some. when i used to post here years
ago there was always a cluster of listees who would get growly if you
mentioned how the girls looked. if you're still here scroll down and skip
this.

these women are wearing middle age fine. really, ive always thot they were
both attractive, but they looked hot tonight. really, really fabulous.

ok, the setlist:

perfect world
fill it up again
yield
power of two
heartache for everyone
get out the map
starkville
leaving (yes!)
ozilline (double yes!)
closer to fine
shame on you
all that we let in
land of canaan (emily was absolutely on fire on the guitar.)
mona lisas and madhatters (there just aren't enough yes's on the planet for
this. god , it was sublime. elton needs to just sign the song over to ig)
wood song
go
free in you
dairy queen
watershed (she changed the every five years i look back on my life and have
a good laugh to every five days.)
least complicated
***encore******
romeo and juliet
galileo

of all the chatter -- and there was a lot of it -- the highlight came after
about an hour of people yelling out requests between songs and them saying
"we'll consider that...." people were yelling out really old stuff like "hey
jesus" they both  remarked on the obscure requests.

and at one point emily says "you all are yelling out things that will never
be played again. some of these songs we've retired...."

amy says "retired because they were stooopid."

the crowd jeered. amy says "cmon. really. we were just youngins."

emily: "really, we had no business writing songs. we had no business having
a record contract."

amy: "we just sorta slipped by. that happens sometimes..."

later after enduring several chants for "blood and fire" emily says:

"that's probably one of those retired songs. well wait, amy, it's your song.
is it retired?"

amy: "uh...yeah...."

hooting crowd

amy, shrugging her shoulders as she put on her harmonica for, fittingly,
starkville: "i just don't ever feel that bad anymore..."

anyway, one of the best shows ive ever seen. they looked like they had a
blast.

ive been sick for days -- off from work for a few. wasnt going to shows this
weekend at all.  at the last minute i made a deal with myself. i go fri, but
give the sat ticket away to someone who wanted it.

that sat. ticket is in my wallet. i'll be back  again, fever and all!
