what a treat tonight's show in chicago at the vic was.  the vic is an
old movie theater and can't hold more than a thousand people.  it's
always great when a second show is added in a city but at a different
venue.  you know the only ones who will buy tickets to the second show
are die hards and that held true tonight.  what an awesome crowd.  it
seemed like every word of every song was being sung out loud.  the
audience was right on in all the sing along areas and quiet during  the
quiet areas.  very little squirming to the front and nobody got too
drunk or loud.  really great experience outside of standing up for
three hours.  my old body can't do it like i used to.

kelly hogan opened with a few of her friends/bandmates.  kelly is an
old atlanta buddy of the girls who now resides here in chicago.  she
said she had a cold but i didn't notice.  she sounded great,
harmonizing to all  kinds of stuff with her buds.  really excellent
opening.

the venue took a while to fill up.  for a minute i thought we'd have a
private request show-can you imagine.  yes, amy, next i'd like to hear
left it up to me and then emily, you follow with an acoustic cara mia.
i can dream.    the wxrt rep introduced them by saying tomorrow they'll
be at the auditorium theater but tonight they're in your living room.
to give you an idea of the good karma, not one echo of the word galileo
was uttered from any screaming fan that i could hear.  someone yelled
nashville as a request which had to be the first time i've ever heard
that requested.  emily was cute saying--we hear your requests and we'll
ponder them in our hearts--ie no way in hell we're playing that.  they
weren't as chatty as i had hoped just gushing about loving chicago on a
few occasions (no surprise there!).  amy did tell a random story about
birds (don't recall how it got started) and said she had a bird in her
freezer for the last year which quieted the crowd into an awkward
silence.  she said she kind of forgot to get it to the taxidermist on
time.  it was very strange and emily gave her that --you are freaking
out the audience--look.  anyone know more details on this one?  i'm
intrigued.

they did an all acoustic show and i don't recall if the other shows
were with a band or not.  loved hearing all the new songs live.
heartache for everyone  is a whole new song sans ska.

the setlist as best i can remember is as follows in definitely no
particular order:

fill it up again
perfect world
power of two
ozilline
all that we let in
land of canaan (hadn't heard this one in ages and the crowd loved it)
yield
something real
let it be me
johnny rotten
least complicated
get out the map
shame on you
closer to fine
heartache for everyone
free in you
thin line (this was an unreal treat as i had never heard it live in all
my 50+ shows)
dairy queen
- ------------------------------------
virginia woolf (whoever said they wanted to hear it--you have a chance
and it was gorgeous)
go
galileo

sorry if i missed a song in there.  i'm going off memory and 4 amstel
lights [...]    still love em after all these years.
g'nite--greg

the taxidermist / bird comment pertained to amy discussing that she loves the
bird exhibit at the field museum in chicago.  then she said that she had a
dead bird in her freezer.  appearantly, she found it dead on her property and
needs to find a taxidermist to stuff it for her.

it was hilarious.

[sherlyn's note: this message was originally sent to the indigo

i just got back to my mother's house from the first chicago show (read my
other post for details... or slight details.  i am exhausted).  anyway, in my
inbox was kfog's (san francisco's only decent commercial radio station) weekly
email.  the people at kfog are tallying votes of world class rock legends.  ig
is a choice!!!  if you want to take 30 seconds out of your day to vote for our
girls, you can do so here:  http://www.kfog.com/albumtool/

last time there was a kfog poll and ig was a choice (best concerts of 2003),
ig came in at number eight (or something like that).  let's try to do that
again!

thanks!

i received this e-mail if anyone needs a ticket to the show in richmond on
tues. april the 27th.
contact them directly at hswalker@techie.com for info.
- -ang
as it turns out i do have one extra ticket.  if you know anyone who wants it.
please let me know.

the tickets were about $35 with ticketmaster fees and i'd let this one ticket
go for $20 just so it doesn't go to waste.

thanks.

i'll let someone else do a full review on tonight's chicago show.  i am
speechless.  the night began when we saw a woman in the lobby with a
t-shirt reading "well it ain't gonna lick itself" across her chest.
so we knew it was going to be a sassy evening.  major highlight for me
was mona lisas and mad hatters during the encore.  i had heard they
were playing this song on the tour and could only dream.  so great to
hear a song live for the first time that you have loved for so many
years.  set list in no order and probably not complete was a nice mix
and not too similar to last nights.

perfect world
fill it up again
become you
power of two
shame on you
yield
get out the map
everything in it's own time (i will let michele share her joy at
playing her request)
least complicated
reunion
wood song
all that we let in
come on home
amy new song (she played solo and the lyrics seem to have love is
kindness as a common theme--anyone know the title?)
closer to fine
heartache for everyone
scooter boys
go
chickenman/bitteroot
- ----------------------------------------------
dairy queen
mona lisas and mad hatters (nearly fell to the floor in tears)
galileo

[...]  enjoy the tour, y'all.  they rock!--greg
