the show sunday night at foellinger auditorium at the university of illinois at champaign-urbana was fantastic. the last time they played u of i, the show at the krannert center sold out before i could get tickets. this time, i was fortunate enough to have front row seats (a first for me at an ig show) and even though they were still selling tickets before the show, it looked like a pretty full house to me. i'd forgotten how small this venue is!

amy and emily sound better than ever. they were just unbelievable. i love the band, but just the two of them with their instruments is amazing. highlights for me were thine line, which i was so hoping they'd play and the crowd loved it, and let it be me, virginia woolf and driver education.

emily and amy seemd to get chattier as the evening went on, but looked like they were happy to be there from the very start. they were pretty funny ... amy shared a story about a town meeting they had where she lives that featured a hot debate on same-sex marriage and ended in a hilarious analogy about the spartans.

i learned something at last night's show ... a non-dancing crowd is not necessarily a bad crowd. not a whole lot of dancing at all, but the crowd was really responsive and respectful. i was close to the aisle, so i inched over to dance for a few songs so i wouldn't obscure anyone's view.

another reason why i loved the crowd last night - they seemd to love girlyman as much as i did and it was one of the best responses to an ig opener (or any opener) i've ever seen. and girlyman deserved it, because they were just divine. again, folks weren't up and dancing but the place was pretty full for the opener and not many people were milling around and talking. they played with ig on ctf, perfect world and finlandia and actually managed to make those songs even better ... amy and emily really seemd to be enjoying playing with them.

from the ig site bbs, this is the set list posted as it appears on paper. i can't recall any changes. they didn't seem to have any chats about changing it up and before they played one of the songs, they said someone requested this, but we were going to play it anyway (can't remember which song that was)
