hey folks,

this is an excerpt from an article from the columbus ledger-enquirer.
it's long so i won't quote the whole thing here, but you can read it
online at (url should be all on one line):

anyone who has lived in this area for the past 15 years is well aware of father
roy, his legions of soa watch followers and the annual november protest at the
gates of fort benning.

his aim, and that of the movement, is to close down the western hemisphere
institute for security cooperation, which replaced the school of the americas
in 2001. the soa had moved to fort benning in 1984 from panama.

[...]

next weekend's protest is expected to attract almost 15,000 people, ranging
from spirited college students, many from the country's 28 jesuit colleges, to
seasoned adult marchers, including dozens of military retirees, to hollywood
celebrities, including oscar winner susan sarandon.

[...]

celebrities such as martin sheen, the indigo girls, sister helen prejean of
"dead man walking" fame, folk singer pete seeger and others have spoken to the
mass of protesters. sarandon, who played sister helen in the movie based on her
book, will address the crowd at saturday's rally sometime between 11:30 a.m.
and 5 p.m. songwriter utah phillips and indigo girl amy ray will also be on the
card.

the gathering will culminate on sunday with a solemn funeral procession to the
main gate. many protesters will then cross over into fort benning in an act of
nonviolent civil disobedience.

my primary thoughts on the show are that mona lisas and mad hatters was absolutely awesome and that philly audiences like to sit during shows, which is not my preferred method of observation.

i didn't write down the setlist, but the songs were:

tether (during the opener's set)
power of two
yield
let it be me
fill it up again
shame on you
get out the map
become you
perfect world
let me go easy
new amy song
cordova
our deliverance
hammer and a nail
heartache for everyone
least complicated
philosophy of loss
chicken--bitteroot--man
wood song
closer to fine (w/ 35human lead singer)

encore: mona lisas and mad hatters
galileo
