so concert info--
the sf show was great except there was some horrible man in the front who talked to the performers throughout the entire show. at one point he put some package on the stage and said to amy (after visibly annoying her for most of the show) "you haven't even opened your present yet." amy says brusquely, "i see it." anyway, aside from him, the crowd seemed nice. i don't think the place was full, but i was right up front so i'm not sure. the tee shirts they are selling rock. i got the red one. amy was wearing a boy george shirt with the sleeves cut off, the red plaid pants, old beat up boots and a snorkel. (just cheching to see if you're paying attention.) she had a spider man sticker on her guitar. she played everything on prom and then mts of glory (amazing!), black heart today, lucy stoners, johnny r.(which she said is "not about my brother. it's about a very special man in my life: my cat.") she broke a string during that song. i think that's it. the audience wouldn't let her
go at the end, so she came back, eating a green apple, and said she knew it sounded "weird" but she just didn't have anything prepared and was really hoarse, so she couldn't do an encore. as she was going offstage i asked if i could have the broken string and she handed it to me. "celebrity" sightings included julie woolf (sp?) and amy's gf who looks nice. i didn't hang out after the show, but those who did said the weird guy was there harrassing her again...
the next day we went to her instore and she showed up about ten minutes early, and started five minutes early. she was wearing an aries ringer tee, diesel jeans (nice), two necklaces, and the same boots. she asked if anyone had questions and no one did to start with. she played late bloom, drivers education which she said she wrote thinking about this guy who sat behind her at school. he always ate reeses and smoked right before class and so he had a very specific smell. she had a crush on him. she also talked about how when she first moved to her town, people would come over to her house to fix things and would make offhand homphobic comments or racist comments and she would not know how to respond or would just let it slide, but she started to dialogue with them at a certain point. it was..inspiring to know that amy, who i hold as this amazing activist soemtimes has trouble working up the nerve to stand up for things. i got something signed at the end and she was really swe
et and attentive, and we actually had a good conversation in which i did not act like an idiot and gave her a book that reminded me of the themes on prom and stag, so we discussed the book and she said that it may have affected her writing on the new cd. anyway...i'm always struck by how genuine and sweet she is. my gf is holding a spot in line for the la show right now. can't wait to get out of work.
sorry this ended up so long.
