i've been downloading shows from torrents like crazy over the past couple of
months, which has meant a huge explosion in my boot collection.  i know a lot
of trading and vines happen on the bbs, but i wanted to do something for this
list, particularly since there may be folks on here who don't participate in
the bbs community.  i got started collecting shows way back when on cassette
tape because of this list, and back in the day there used to be regular trade
or b&p offers by kind folks who just wanted to share some indigo goodness.  i
figure this is my chance to spread some karma.

here's the deal.  take a look at my available list, which also includes non-ig
shows (http://db.etree.org/eclecticlibrarian) and if there is something you
want, there are two things you can do:
1.  contact me about setting up a blank & postage trade.  if you've never done
this before, there's a link to more information at the top of my trade list.
2.  look at my want list
(http://db.etree.org/public_wantlist.php?userid=eclecticlibrarian) and see if
you have something i'm looking for.*  if you do, then contact me about setting
up a trade.

that's it.  pretty easy, really.

if you're new to the trading thing and have a broadband connection, i highly
recommend checking out the bit torrent trading that's been happening lately.  a
lot of shows have been made available on etree thanks to carolyn (underdog) and
all the rest of the traders who have kept the torrents alive.  here's a list of
what's actively going at the moment:  http://bt.etree.org/?search=&cat=261

anna

*cdr trades only, please.  i'm upgrading some shows i already have from cassette
to cd through trades or torrents.*

hi,
to avoid being mistaken for spam, my religious email groups (amasangha,
uu buddhist fellowship, uu-books, etc.) and music lists (nields-nook,
ferrick, dads-yard, etc.) all have indicators formatted into the subject field so
that i know it's from them and not some spam. this list doesn't have anything,
and i'm sure i've deleted legit list emails b/c the subject line made me
suspicious. how difficult would it be for an ig indicator to be built into the
subject field?

deb & anyone else interested:

this list does have a subject heading indicator, but it's turned off as a
default.  i was having the same problem with list mail ending up in my spam
folder and not knowing it except for the occasional obvious subject heading or
familiar sender.

send a message to listserv@lists.netspace.org with the following in the body:
    set indigo-girls subjecthdr

from the user's manual:
"the new subjecthdr (minimum abbreviation: subj) header option is provided for
users who want to see a "tag" in the subject line of their incoming list mail
that indicates where the mail is coming from (e.g., to activate a filter in
their mail program to drop the message into a specified notebook)."

hope this works for you!

on july 15, 2005 i gave birth to my second daughter.  my husband and i
decided to name her amy ray kleiner.  a few years ago, i joked with my
husband that if we had a daughter, we should name her amy ray.  he

members (partially because we spelled it ray instead of rae), but oh
well.  only a few people that i've told have gotten the ig connection.

we'll probably get the formal birth announcements done this weekend.  i
plan on sending an announcement to daemon or russel carter to pass along
to amy ray.   i wonder if she'll respond.  :)

congratulations!  don't feel shy at all to share your wonderful
experience.  we are all interconnected in life's experiences and here,
we are connected in our ig devotion (or is it obsession?).

my daughter, born in 1993, also has an ig name.  her name is emily
elizabeth. (elizabeth is amy's middle name, as we all know.)
she is very proud of her name and i am proud, still, that i chose to
honor the two woman who have mostly influenced my life path.

i wish your family joy, peace, and all things indigo...

hey kind friends,

the gals will be playing three dates in chicago (sept. 18-20) at the park
west (general admission). tix are now on sale either through tktmaster or
directly at the box office (near corner of armitage and clark, just east of
ben and jerry's!). it's open from 10am to 5pm, m-f and accepts cash only.

also, amy will be playing at estrojam on thurs., sept. 22.
www.estrojam.org

see some info from that site below.

peace,
michele

estrojam 2005 will take place september 21st-24th at various venues
throughout chicago. confirmed artists have been posted on the schedule page.

the estrojam music and culture festival is an annual 501c3 non-profit,
community-based event that features internationally acclaimed musicians and
artists of many mediums, emerging talent, educators, activists, and
community leaders in dozens of events, including concerts, workshops,
panels, and a film festival, presented at chicago's best venues.

each year, a portion of estrojam profits are donated to powerful women and
women's not-for-profit organizations related to the arts, education, social
change, human rights, non-violence and women's health. in 2005 estrojam will
benefit the fight for social change through non-violent methods by donating
a portion of 2005 profits to the u.s. campaign for burma, supporting
imprisoned nobel peace prize winner aung san suu kyi and the people of
burma's non-violent struggle for freedom and democracy, as well as the
chicago abused women coalition.

aung san suu kyi (pronounced aung sawn sue chee) is one of the world's most
renowned freedom fighters and advocates of non-violence. burma is ruled by
one of the world's most brutal military regimes, which uses torture, murder,
rape and forced labor to maintain its power. over one million burmese have
fled the country as refugees. suu kyi has been imprisoned by this regime, as
well as put on house arrest multiple times, over the past 15 years and is
currently under house arrest indefinitely. in 1988 this same regime killed
up to 10,000 demonstrators for human rights in burma - students, women,
children, and others - in a matter of months. suu kyi has won numerous
international awards, including the nobel peace prize, sakharov prize from
the european parliament, united states presidential medal of freedom, and
jawaharlal nehru award from india. she has called on people around the world
to join the struggle for freedom in burma, saying "please, use your liberty
to promote ours." at present, aung san suu kyi is the world's only
imprisoned nobel peace prize recipient. the u.s. campaign for burma works to
promote freedom, democracy, and human rights in burma.
www.uscampaignforburma.org / www.dassk.com

chicago abused women coalition is committed to ending domestic violence.
using a self-help, empowerment approach, they provide a shelter for women
and children, and counseling, advocacy, and a 24-hour hotline for people
affected by domestic violence. they work for social change through
education, service collaboration, and institutional advocacy.

i hope if amy does respond, you'll let us know.

my tribute was an art exhibit i had in 1997 that was entitled "honor the earth".  much of the artwork was inspired by their music.  there were prints of a few pages of a handmade book that i sent amy on her birthday included in the show.

nothing at all wrong with naming your children after strong, ethical womyn!  these womyn are fine characters for role models and i would be honored to have been named after either (or both) of them.  i was already done naming offspring when i started getting into "the girls."

my ex and i had (and she still has) a rat terrier named "indigo."

congrats on the baby!

this is from the future of music coalition's newsletter #42, which was posted this week.

* house of representatives *

on june 9, the indigo girls performed on capitol hill in support of rep. louise slaughter's (d-ny) introduction of a companion version of the local community radio act of 2005 in the house. rep. slaughter announced the bill, which has bipartisan support, in front of a crowd of lawmakers and staffers including rep. mary bono (r-ca) and rep. schakowsky (d-il).
[an official introduction of the bill in the house is forthcoming.]

in case anyone is interested (this is now nigc), the future of music coalition  is hosting a future of music policy summit at lisner auditorium-george washington university, washington, dc on september 11-13, 2005. some of the more "notable" panelists taking part include:

senator maria cantwell (d-wa)
representative rick boucher (d-va)

and music notables-

producer and songwriter joe henry (most recently produced ani difranco's latest)
melissa ferrick
and mike mills of r.e.m.

well, having had one person after another bail out on me for my extra
ticket for this show, i'm seeing if there aren't any pearl jam fans
on the ig mailing list who might want this.

it's one (1) general admission ticket to pearl jam at the gorge
amphitheater in george, wa
http://www.hob.com/venues/concerts/gorge/
for thursday, sept 1.  the gorge is one of the most amazing and
dramatic venues to see a show, and this should be a special pj show.
no opening act (it's "an evening with..."), camping onsite, and pj
has been working on a new album, so i'm expecting new material to be
performed.  the show is on a thursday, which means a lot of people
can't make it due to work, etc, so it'll probably be a fairly select
audience.  all this adds up to being a really good night of music and
energy, or so i'm anticipating...

anyway, if there's any one in this area (the pacific nw) who wants to
go, i have an actual physical ticket (no ticketfast) to offer up for
face value of $49 (i'll eat the service charges).  this show is
coming up soon, so we'll have to do the deal pretty quickly.

so, email me if you're interested in this ticket.  i'd hate to see it
go to waste!
