*hug* to barb--i'm sorry about the loss of your beloved pet. my cousin lost
her siamese cat last month, and i forwarded the story someone sent here to
the list. she loved it.
regarding the christmas/holiday card exchange:
i can take it up this year, if no one else wants to. if anyone is new to
the list, i believe this tradition started in the late 90's, but i'm not too
sure. it is fun to get extra holiday greetings from other indigo girls'
fans. we are such a creative and heartwarming group (*giggle*--because it
sounds so syrupy), and i've had wonderful cards from the couple years i did
participate. so, if you do have the time, join in the fun.
what we do is collect all the people's snail mail addresses, and then
separate them into groups of 10 or so, depending on how many people there
are. then whoever is collecting the addresses, will send out the list of
mailing addresses in your group to you. then for your group, you send
holiday cards to each of them on the list. you can make it indigo
girls'-related. i've sent copies of set lists and concert reviews one year,
and another year, i've sent ornaments of pictures of amy and emily. but it
really isn't necessary to go through all that effort. a card is plenty =)
if you would like to participate, please email me:
your name,
your email address,
your mailing address,
by december 4th. i'll send reminders out over the next two weeks. and i'll
send the lists out december 5th or 6th. any stragglers will be on their own
special straggler list.
and for ig content, i had moment #2,371. a few weeks ago, the radio
station jack fm, played closer to fine while i was driving home from the gym
one day. it was strange to hear emily sing the third verse. (jack fm is
the franchise that has no djs, takes no listener requests, and plays
anything from classic rock to pop to older songs that you never hear on the
radio. they are okay, but i like the indie station i discovered a few weeks
ago.)
happy thanksgiving everyone!

hi everyone,
i'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for good and interesting covers
of rock or pop songs, done by country artists? just a few weeks ago i
started a new radio show on my own, playing acoustic/country type stuff.
two weeks ago i played dolly parton's version of shine by collective soul.
this week i played the hayseed dixie cover of you shook me all night long
by acdc, and i've been challenged to top those. the only thing i can think
of so far is the willie nelson version of time after time. please let me
know if you have any ideas.

dolly parton's newest album "those were the days" is full of such
things. it includes me and bobby mcgee, blowin' in the wind, turn,
turn, turn, both sides now, and imagine. just to name a few.
enjoy!

i would be happy to organize the list holiday card
exchange this year. i have really enjoyed it in the
past and appreciate that barb has been kind enough to
oversee it for the past few years.
if no one else speaks up, i'll post another email in
the next day or two seeking names and addresses so i
can compile a master list and set up the exchange.
thanks!

hey guys... i don't post often, but i was so shocked the other night, (in a
good way!)... my partner and i were eating at a national chain restaurant
called pf chang's, where i've always noticed they have good music, (adult
alternative, i guess is what you'd call it), and what comes on but "driver
education!" we could hardly believe our ears. we've heard ig there before,
(always the big radio singles, like power of two and galileo), but "driver
education?" score one for amy! yea pf chang's! we like them even more now :) ( i
meant to ask someone who provided their music, but forgot... i'll
definitely ask next time).

hi,
just reminded me of a similar experience i recently had. my=20
partner and i were in the small town we grew up in. typical small=20
town, very 'backward' and close-minded in general, though getting=20
more 'up-to-date' all the time... anyway, we decided to go to a=20
bar/restaurant and were thinking, 'oh my, this is going to be an=20
experience!' well, we were ever shocked when we walked in and what=20
was playing over the soundsystem but 'uncle john's band' from=20
rarities! i stood mouth agape for several seconds before=20
recovering. fortunately we got to seat ourselves or i would have=20
looked like a fool in front of the hostess. i don't even like that=20
song and rarely will i even let my partner listen to it, without=20
her letting me listen to a song i like that she doesn't. lol.=20=20
but, i enjoyed that song to no end that night! and, it just seemed=20
to go on and on forever! turns out they had satellite radio. i=20
imagine it was a channel for 'heartland' music or something like=20
that. very, very nice, indeed. a shock and surprise i greatly=20
enjoyed!!!

i just caught a promo of a special coming up on logo called "quintessentially queer cinema" and a 2-second clip of amy, sitting with emily, saying "showgirls is awesome." ha!
it's probably like those "i love the 80s" shows on vh1, where famous people, comedians, actors, whatever, talk about movies with gay themes and why they love them. on the description on tivo it says "movies discussed include thelma & louise, a streetcar named desire, cabaret, valley of the dolls and hedwig and the angry inch. and obviously showgirls, since that's what amy was saying in the little clip. looks like it's showing 12/4, 12/5 and 12/6 with more dates to be added, probably.

hey y'all,
okay, so it's a para-ig moment.
yesterday, i went to the gwen stefani concert at the arrowhead pond in
anaheim, and guess who was playing bass and also sang a verse on one of
gwen's songs?
think midnight train to georgia!
yup! it was gail ann dorsey! i knew i recognized the voice, but i didn't
definitely know, until gwen introduced her along with other members of her
band.
remember to email me, if you're interested in joining the holiday card
exchange--include your name, email address, and real address.
hope your thanksgiving went well!

gail gets around, i sorta hung out with gail and sara lee (who i have
seen with the b-52's, ig and ani) before an ig show @ dartmouth (god
that show was wierd, just a very laid back 1995 crowd, amy was
walking around and pushing security away from her so she could hang
with fans, this isnt pre list, but very very few folks were there -
joe h. and someone from brown (i feel guilty as i probably emailed
her on a regular basis then...)
later that yr, i got tickets to david bowie /nin tour...i had lawn
seats - some guy walks up after nin and hands me his "pit" ticket and
left the show - soooooooo...i freaked and saw bowie from like 6
ft..and who was playing bass. yup - gail. she did bass for an dar
tour as well and she definitely saw me at the bowie show
god, to be able to stand that long again...oh well

i lost my black cat, spooky, to kidney disease on nov. 9th, the very day my new kitty arrived at the humane society for companion animals...
so....without much ado....meet sammy! he's my 5-6month-old kitten, part orange tabby for certain, and i don't what else, i don't have any pictures yet, nor do i have a scanner.....so sorry...all i can do is offer a discription.....his body is all white accept for two orange spots, orange around the ears, has dark, dark blue eyes. white face. he's very small, and his meow always sounds so eency-weency.
he shares my bed now that spooky's gone....and that helps with some of the loneliness, just the other night he discovered the garbage! he was trying to jump up onto the kitchen counter, and decided to use the trash can for a landing on his way up....afterall it does have a white cover that rocks.
when i heard a great big kaboom the other night i got up and found him in the kitchen, he hadn't gotten into the food, but the waste basket was on the floor....anywhoo, he's very shy around people so a little socialization is in order.
get a load of how he came to me.....someone saw a crate get thrown out the window of the vehicle ahead, on the highway that is, in the crate was sammy, and five other kittens!!! isn't that awful?!!! what kind of
cat owner is that? obviously an abusive one with no care for animals.
i'm glad some kind woman had the decentcy to take the kittens to the humane society for companion animals.....in ramsey county where i live they no longer put animals to sleep unless they are so severely sick they can't find a home for them, or if they bite....they use foster homes now.

thats no pet owner, that's a complete jackass that should get six raps to

i got this from my me'shell ndegeocello list. i guess this might explain
why gail played that night. she plays with the drummer that's on tour with
gwen in bowie's band. is me'shell the touring bass player for this tour?
no doubt: gwen stefani can put on a high-powered show going solo
by gene stout
seattle post-intelligencer pop music critic
no doubt's gwen stefani may be on her first solo tour, but she's
hardly alone on stage.
her show monday night at keyarena (with london-born singer m.i.a.
opening), includes a bevy of dancers and backup musicians, huge
video screens and lots of costume changes.
among those on stage are meshell ndegeocello on vocals and bass and
zachary alford (who has worked with bruce springsteen and david
bowie) on drums.
for no doubt fans who can't wait for the inevitable reunion,
stefani's solo tour in support of her "love. angel. music. baby."
album -- featuring superstar producers linda perry and dallas austin
and such songwriters as pharrell williams, dr. dre, the neptunes and
andre 3000 -- offers a colorful interlude. the show is well-stocked
with such new songs as "rich girl," "what you waiting for?"
and "harajuku girls," but favorite no doubt tunes are in short
supply.
stefani is one of the few female rockers on radio these days. the
dearth of women on rock radio was a hot topic at last weekend's
rockrgrl music conference.
"she's toured from when she was 18 years old playing small clubs, to
playing small theaters, then amphitheaters and then arenas,"
interscope records' jimmy iovine says in a jan. 27 rolling stone
cover story on stefani.
"she is the only woman on pop radio right now who has toured with
that vigor, and she's the only one who could as easily tour with u2,
green day and outkast."
but stefani's solo tour, which began in october, is modeled more
along the lines of what madonna, janet jackson and even britney
spears are doing in the dance-pop arena, even though her new songs
aren't as tasty as the classic rock and ska tunes that made no doubt
famous, from "just a girl" to "hella good."
stefani seems to be having fun with a glossy, high-energy production
that has proved extremely entertaining to diehard fans, though media
reviews are mixed.
but the 36-year-old southern california singer is yearning for other
things, perhaps even motherhood.
"this is the first time in a long time that i actually don't know
what's gonna happen next," stefani told rolling stone.
"you think about it as a famous person. you think about how you're
gonna end it. how you're gonna get away and have a normal life. i
imagine my children are going to save me from my vanity and be my
passion and fill whatever fears i have of the amazing time i'm
having right now being gone.
"i don't want to drop off and not be on the radio or not be able to
talk about myself for hours. i don't want it to go away. but at the
same time, i never expected to be here in the first place."

...bonster congrats on your new kitty!
i went home for thanksgiving and on our drive back to where we live (not =
where i call home) we were listening to wmvy (my alma mater way back) on =
martha's vineyard and they had a program they were callling "feast of =
the favorites" and just happened that the hour we heard was the indigo =
girls! woohoo! the station has always played them but to hear them 3 =
times in less than one hour was great. then we went out of range so =
didn't get to listen to the rest of the hour. they played perfect =
world, power of two and river is wide from lilith. it was funny to hear =
the dj talk about "feasting on the indigo girls" and how she was so =
thankful for them, over and over again. funny ;)
