this is really starting to concern me.  it is very unlike diane.  please if
anyone hears from her, i would appreciate a note.

in the meantime, i would be willing to re-organize the exchange in her
absence.  if that is what we would like to do, let me know, and i will issu=

hey everyone,

just thought the folks on the list who celebrate xmas might be interested
in the new album my friend kc just recorded.  kc groves is the founder of
the all girl old time band uncle earl.  she teamed up with her lyons,
colorado neighbors to record this xmas cd featuring a mix of originals and
covers.  check it out if you're bored with all your old holiday albums:

hey y'all!

it's that time of year again!

... time to vote for various radio stations' best albums, songs, and
concerts of 2005.

kfog actually included amy ray's solo show in their "best shows" vote
(indigo girls are included too).  go vote for amy (and ig) here:
http://www.kfog.com/albumtool/concert.asp

other stations that are conducting polls (that i've found so far) are:

http://www.kmtt.com (kmtt)
http://www.wxrt.com (wxrt)

i'm still looking for more.  if you have any local radio stations that are
conducting similar polls, please post a link to their website(s).

vote for prom, rarities, and other various daemon releases for "best
album."  include songs from those albums for "best song."  and remember to
vote for amy's solo shows, indigo girls shows, and various daemon band show=
s
for "best concert." (depending on who came through which city in 2005)

support independent music!

speaking of best of lists, this is the boston globe's best folk
albums of 2005 (note #2):

1. uncle earl, "she waits for night" rounder. the hottest new ensemble in
the burgeoning neotraditional revival, the female band's sound is at once
ancient and hip, achingly melodic and properly playful.

2. utah phillips, "starlight on the rails: a songbook" daemon. arguably
the most important folk star to emerge after the '60s revival, phillips
creates a 4-cd epic of music and story, recounting his life through his
best songs. intimate, droll, and fiercely felt, it is equal parts cultural
history and musical memoir.
3. kate rusby, "the girl who couldn't fly" compass. england's reigning
traditional diva is emerging as its finest folk songwriter since richard
thompson.
4. anthology, "la guitara" vanguard. brilliant guitarist-songwriter patty
larkin assembles a captivating, globe-hopping array of female pickers,
from blues pioneer memphis minnie to chinese pipa master wu man;
finger-picking legend elizabeth cotton to contemporary jazz great mimi
fox.
5. alison brown, "stolen moments" compass. brown brings an alluringly
feminine sound to the banjo, rescuing it from its jackhammer cliches. just
as jerry douglas did with the dobro, she is teaching the banjo how to
sing.
6. arlo guthrie, "live in sydney" rising son. folk's favorite son has
never sounded better. herambles through his life in song as only a guthrie
can ramble, melding past and present into one warm, hilariously observed,
and musically splendid moment.
7. cheryl wheeler, "defying gravity" philo. utterly unafraid to sing about
the simplest pleasures or the most conflicting passions, the artfully
plainspun songwriter delivers a mature masterpiece.
8. thea gilmore, "loft music" compass. the british folk-rocker sings songs
that influenced her, by van morrison, the buzzcocks, phil ochs, the
ramones, and others. this is adolescence darkly
remembered: the harrowing isolation, the need to hide from a peering,
unkind world, and the magical
solace of finding songs that know just how you feel.
9. old school freight train, "run" acoustic disc. the young bluegrassers'
jazzy jams could make nickel creek feel like old fogies, but the real
surprise is the graceful, incisive songwriting.
10. aine minogue, "celtic lamentations" sounds true. the irish
harpist-singer explores how ancient people used music to grieve. not
simply dirges, this gorgeous odyssey visits all the complex moods of
mourning.

hello everyone,

i have very unfortunate news to share.

i took my son to his grandparent's house (my partner jodie's parents house)=
on friday night to attend basketball practice on saturday morning.  howeve=
r, that evening at 4:30 in the morning an electrical fire began in the livi=
ng room.  jodie's parents woke up and went to elijah's bed and tried to sav=
e him.  however, they all died from carbon monoxide poisoning due to smoke =
inhalation.  we believe and pray that elijah was already gone by the time h=
er parents got to him and that he did not suffer.  they did not make it out=
of his bedroom before they were overcome by the smoke and fumes.  they wer=
e heroic in their efforts to save our son and their only grandchild.  i mis=
s my baby and i want him back.  but, i cannot have him because he is in hea=
ven now with jesus.  he was 6 years old and attended 1st grade at warren el=
ementary in cockeysville.  he will be greatly missed.  he was loved by ever=
yone who had the privilege to meet him.

hug your loved ones, hold them dear, and thank god every day for each bless=
ed day that you have to share with them.

this terrible tragedy

http://therecordherald.com/articles/2005/12/13/local_news/news01.txt

and elijah's obituary
http://therecordherald.com/articles/2005/12/13/obituaries/news02.txt

i can't even imagine. jodie seemed to have just got
better after suffering from her illness for so long.

hi,

thanks for everyone's concern, but i'm safe.  i went to a midnight showing
of chronicles of narnia thursday night, worked, was  busy all weekend, then
went to a taping of the ellen degeneres show on monday.  it was a lot of
fun, and the show aired yesterday (tuesday).

i pushed back the deadline to wednesday midnight because i'm still waiting
for a couple more addresses.  i tried to carefully check the junk email box,
and i apologize to those who wrote and didn't get acknowledged because of
the ghost postmaster on hotmail/email.
