hi y'all! i was just talking to my friend about the beautiful version of
mona's lisa's and mad hatter's on the rarities album this morning and we
were trying to analize the lyrics and thought it would be a good discussion
for the list - does anyone have any insight to the meaning of the lyrics?

thanks and have a good day!
kellie

many years ag i saw an interview with bernie  taupin
and elton john who said that the song was written
about the life of new yorkers, and that  "mona lisa;s
and mad hatters" was an inclusive  phrase they used to
name the many different people and various walks of
life of new york city, ranging from the ecclectic to
the ecentric to the "normal" family lives of new york.

bernie taupin and elton john are two of the most
wonderful songwiters of the century, in my opinion who
have certainly left their mark on the history of rock
and roll.   they are unparalled talents in my opinion.

i think elton is just saying that rich, powerful people (eg. mona lisas and
mad hatters, sons [and daughters] of bankers, sons of lawyers) don't know or
care how ordinary people, especially poor people, have to live; they never
look outside their own privileged world.  a big city [ie. people generally]
can be impersonal and cruel, so treasure the good friends you find.  it's
wrapped in metaphor - probably why ig like it so much ;-).  i'd also be
interested on other listees takes on the lyrics.

wishing a wonderful 2006 to everyone,
eileen

hey guys,

hope this finds everyone doing well  :    )

i am working on putting together a comprehensive dvd set of all the fan
captured ig video clips from over the years (tv appearances, shows, etc)
and want to make sure as much is included as can be found out there.  when
completed (hopefully by mid-year next year), the dvd set will be circulated
in the trading community via the dime torrent site. if you have any clips
that you might be interested in sharing with the project please e-mail me
(underdog@earthlink.net) privately, rather than continuing the thread here.

thanks very much and happy new year,

carolyn
