the following is the billboard review of "prom". if you want to read it
online, you can find it here:

___
"the uber-reliable indigo girls have made amy ray famous,
comfortable and able to produce solo albums on her own dime and
schedule, which must be nice, since on recent indigo records she's
sounded a bit like she's rattling around in a crate trying to tear the
earnest label off.

ray's always been good for the indigos' more coarser and consistently
interesting material, but on "prom," as she did on her solo debut, "stag,"
she's created a punk playground for her inner riot grrrl.

a semi-concept album about ray's calling cards -- aches for rebellious,
carefully doled-out anger and thorny sexual issues -- and staged mostly
in the wretched hive of high school among "all the punks and the queers
and the freaks and the smokers," the set's best material has a razor's
edge ("put it out for good" and "blender," both of which sport
powerfully hummable melodies) and a crackling eye for detail ("i am an
overachiever of the wrong persuasion, a pep rally kid, a new gender
nation with a new desire").

but ray leaves time for bouncy, strummer-tinged rockers like "driver
education," the best example of ray's optimistic, ######## alliances
with the outsider-types within. adding to the charm is the ragged
production, which may be a financial circumstance, but serves as a
perfect counterpoint to the record's smart, driven rawness."

i received my copy of prom yesterday from daemon!  i've only had a chance to
listen to the whole thing once but, from my first impression, it's awesome!  i
don't have favorites since i've only listened to it once but covered for you,
blender, and driver education stick out in my mind right now as being really
good--not that the others aren't.  i really like the lyrics for covered and
driver education makes me want to dance.  amy seems to have found a great
groove for this cd both lyrically and musically.  has anyone else gotten their
copy yet?  the pictures of amy throughout the cd book are interesting--i dig
the cover of the lyric book with the football uniform.  the other pictures are
funny/cool too although i have to say amy dressed up like a cheerleader is a
little frightening :)  also, she has a new tattoo (at least i haven't known
about it).  it is quite large and detailed with what looks like red and blue
feathers almost with green leaves and flowers.  it doesn't look like it's done
yet but her girlfriends name is at the top of it.  enough about the
pictures--it's a great album and i'm really excited to listen to it again and
again.  it's been a while since a new cd has gotten me excited and i don't
think prom will be disappointing in the least.

anyone else??
