i think you're confusing matt chamberlain with matt sorum. matt sorum was  in
gnr (and was also in tori amos' band y kant tori read). matt chamberlain has
been playing drums with tori since 98 on the chorigirl hotel. i don't
remember  matt chamberlain ever playing with patty griffin...

jimmy is good, matt is technically  an  incredible player too, he did
the drums for the tori album with  "spark"  on it...cant remember the title.

hi,

i don't remember seeing this mentioned before, but i've come across
some ig dvd action on vonda shepard's latest (?) cd.  her "live-a
retrospective" album contains a bonus dvd which includes interviews
with her music and tv friends and a live performances, including "baby,
don't you break my heart slow" with emily.  until i'd seen this
performance, i had never noticed how expressive emily is with her hands
when singing.  i know she is usually playing the guitar or some
instrument, but is this gesticulation due to her really feeling the
song, or just because she doesn't know what to do with her hands!?
interesting.

amy is interviewed and tries describing vonda's music.  emily chats
about how she loves that "baby, don't you break my heart slow" song and
how vonda asked her to sing a duet on that one, etc.  pretty cool
bonus.

no other real news from the uk, so i'll go back to lurkdom now.

bye,

claudine

while i do miss jerry, and he was my favorite of the batch, i did like  blair
and brady, as well.  and again, while i liked sara, i've been quite
impressed with claire.  mostly, i'm just really ready for them to tour with  a band
again.  when they used to bounce back and forth between band and  duo, i didn't
really have a preference.  i loved them both and found each  an enjoyable
change of pace.  but after four of five years of duo, duo,  duo, i am sooo ready
for a band tour.  even though it was the same songs  both nights, and other
than midnight train, not some of my faves, i was stoked  to see them with the
band over the winter.

i really miss jerry, just because, if you look at the breadth of
studio work he has done - it is just literally astounding. i mean
from peter gabriel to 10000 maniacs to ig to dar (i think)

he is all over my cd/ mp3 / digital collection...

and i was wrong about matt chamberlain..hey, who knew tori had two
drummers named matt...

i was confused, which is nothing new....

hello, everyone.

i've been sort of "out of touch" lately...busy, busy.  so, i wasn't aware the the girls were involved in this.  there is a 10 yo girl in fla that is being denied the right to sing this song in her school's talent show.  a local radio station played the song today to let everyone hear the lyrics and then took a poll to see whether people thought it inappropriate.  i had never heard it before today.  most people said it was not inappropriate or vulgar.

i read that the principal sited drug, alcohol, and gay rights content, and the fact that the word "hell" was in the song as the reasons for why she wasn't allowed to perform it.  the little girl's (molly i think?) mother said she thinks it is because it is critical of the bush administration.

they have since granted the girl the priviledge of singing a song about 2 girls fighting over a guy (girl fight?).  is this more appropriate for her age level than a politically controversial song?  i think not!

i decided to investigate the lyrics further, so i looked them up on the web.  why was i not surprised to see "(feat. indigo girls)" below the byline?  ha!  the girls can get into a political controversy without even trying!!  i just thought it interesting that i didn't even know ig had a part in this song...and because of the controversy, looked it up and viola!  there's ig!!

btw, the way the word "hell" is used in the song is not vulgar or cursing.  the song is actually quite beautiful.  i like the melody and i like to hear pink doing a ballad.  and of course, i like the lyrics!

anyone know if ig has made any comments on this girl not being allowed to sing it?

hey i was there too! wasn't that great? i wish they'd do that again, isn't it about time for another hte tour? it's been how long? i know they probably can't right now, but i can dream can't i? i have to agree with amy on bmhawk though....it rocks so well with a band i can't imagine hearing it without one.

one of my faves, too.  i requested it when they did their college tour  with
winona, but they said they couldn't do it without the band.

lauren

yeah, i  miss their old band too...and hearing bury my heart at wounded knee
too.

i don't condone censorship, however i can see why school officials are being so spineless....they're afraid of ruffling a few feathers! afterall, isn't florida a republican state? oh, and not to mention the school's obvious homophobia.

remember back in the spring of 1998? how the girls were not allowed to sing for some of the schools in ga. the free shows were cancelled when
amy forgot to take out the f-word in soy, and school officials used that as a red-herring to try cancel ig shows at their schools.students got in trouble for protesting that decision.i remember reading about that.

it would be interesting to see what ig would say to that poor student in florida...it would also be interesting to see what pink has to say too. i mean it's her song.

peace all,
barb

you're there, check out neil young's new cd, living with war. one of the songs
is "let's impeach the president." i had to buy the cd :)

thewre is an amazing live version of this on youtube.com - i saw it
on myspace. it is tagged live with ig, but it has different backup
singers.  search youtube for pink indigo girls and you should find it...

uhhh. just really makes me sound like a 16 yr old...so like,, omg, it
rooocks!!!!

and the new neil young is utter brillance. think freedom but 2006.

frustrated that not only did i not get radiohead tixs, but willy
mason, who is soooo underrated and is freaking amazing, is opening
for radiohead. arrrgh.
