howdy all!  sorry about missing last week - i was deeply entrenched in getting myself moved in with the girlfriend *woot* it still looks insane around here, but at least everything (mostly) fits.  got the internet up tonight, and that can mean only one thing: i get to play catch up *heh* so here are some folks i missed, and others waiting in the wings for celebration.

hey y'all,

i guess i should have posted to the list sooner...smack my hand...melanie and i saw the girls down here in our neck of the woods last week at wolftrap amphitheatre in nova.  very cool place out near dulles airport. a national park, no less. any place that let's you bring in your own food and beverages (alcoholic or otherwise) is on the top of my list of venues.   :-)

show was amazing, and i just had to buy one of the  "girls play here" tank tops...very popular among the lesbians, i must say...excellent marketing strategy by the girls...although when i got home and put it on i was dismayed at the snug fit...i think that's one of those "leave in closet until i lose ten pounds...unless i'm aiming for the 'human sausage' look" kind of wardrobe items.

sorry folks, i don't have a set list...that would have required me to actually have a writing utensil or a photographic memory...neither of which i have normally.  esp. the memory part.  :-(

btw...i found myself wondering if  "3-5 human" is someone's phone number?

i had a similar experience with the same design as a long sleeve
t-shirt (from the winter tour).  this time around i went for a size
larger that i usually wear and that t-shirt shirt fits much better,
albeit still a little snug around the hips.

>btw...i found myself wondering if  "3-5 human" is someone's
phone number?

it refers to the fact that, until the end of the civil war,
black people were counted as three-fifths of a full human
being for the purpose of taxes and political representation.

more here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/three-fifths_compromise

although i guess if they ever get popular enough to have a
1-800 number, that would work pretty well...

p.s. does anybody know where i can buy a copy of sunlight &
toys? amazon is no longer stocking it, and i live in the wrong
part of the country to have a hope of simply finding it in a
used cd store.

the night sped by, imo.  it went faster than any other show i've been to.  maybe because of the humidity onstage?

igc- cuz rock is cool but the struggle is=20
better??? cus it's my dream to start a disability=20
focused and definitely queer friendly non- profit=20
publishing /web/video/book entity...sorta like=20
daemon records...and everything i learned to make=20
a good documentary, i did while stealth bootlegging...well 90% anyway...

the background:
lewiston maine =96 michael reynolds, filmmaker and=20
webmaster, is proud to announce two new events=20
surrouding his documentary =93million dollar=20
bigot.=94 the film will be screened on saturday,=20
july 29th, 2006 at the lewiston public library in=20
conjunction with the maine social forum film=20
festival. reynolds is also embarking on a=20
campaign to have the film appear in the top 100=20
videos wednesday july 26, 2006, on google video=92s=20
daily ranking, to coincide with the =93sweet=20
sixteen=94 anniversary of the american with=20
disabilities act. the video can be viewed and=20
downloaded at http://video.google.com and searching for million dollar bigot

(updated as it seems google was acting up on the original link.)

(please watch or download for sony psp or your=20
ipod. there are ways to burn it for a dvd=20
directly from this site, but the internet archive video may be easier.)

the video stands as one of the first grassroots=20
based disability documentaries to been completed=20
largely through online networking and=20
collaboration. the inclusion on the google top=20
100 daily video rankings would provide a needed=20
focus on the struggle people with disabilities=20
are still facinbg for full inclusion in our society.

the film chronicles the disability rights=20
opposition to film =93million dollar baby=94 with=20
insights from csi star robert david hall,=20
reporter john hockenberry, disability publishing=20
pioneer mary johnson, and many others. the film=20
was completed with the support of the national=20
spinal cord injury association, not dead yet, and=20
maine independent media center.

reynolds, 32, considers this a =93documentary film=20
by accident.=94 while attending a conference in=20
washington dc, it was literally a =93eureka=94=20
moment, when he realized most of the major=20
players in the grassroots disability struggle=20
over the movie were easily filmed. networking=20
with a friend who was taping with a dv camera and=20
using his own stock footage, reynolds set out to=20
chronicle the disability resistance to the clint eastwood film.

reynolds is also breaking new ground by working=20
to establish a new distribution systems.  besides=20
google video, the film is available through the=20
internet archive. the film has been screened at=20
the reel life film festival in detroit, as well=20
as an upcoming screening in collaboration with=20
the =93dis this=94 film series in new york city in=20
mid september.  reynolds will also be hosting a=20
session on do it yourself media at the maine=20
social forum after his film screening. the media=20
workshop will be at the bates mill in lewiston.

million dollar bigot, a website started by=20
reynolds, received international attention in=20
2005 before the oscar ceremonies. john=20
hockenberry graciously contributed an incredible=20
essay, =93and the loser is=94, and the website was=20
featured in a number of different media outlets,=20
including fair.org=92s =93counterspin=94, and common dreams.

about uppity disability dot net.
uppity disability dot net is a nonprofit web=20
site/publishing entity promoting progressive=20
views of disability rights and culture. uppity=20
disability dot net has resources for organizing=20
social change as its fiscal sponsor. reynolds is=20
32, has cerebral palsy and other disabilities,=20
and is a part time wheelchair user. reynolds has=20
a part time job in the teleservices field, is a=20
graduate of the university of maine and lives with his partner, jim.

(i totally am spamming everyone i know -=20
apoligies, but it would be amazing to make the top 100 on google's video...)

how many hours till newport?
(please please please do this tonight - really=20
really appreciate it...it is not an ego thing -=20
it is a "we need to prove it can be done thing")
