i've been sick in bed for the last week or so, so that would account for my negative review of dod the other day......at least for my grouchiness.......i really like the artwork....it's the best ig has done in a long time, it's like finally, i get to see them in the artwork....i believe i haven't seen that since...rites.....sure they've got their teen tiny little heads on so,and then that's the last until now.

which coverart do you like best, and what's your most meaningful ig song? just out of curiosity?

coverart... a topic very near and dear to my heart

as an artist, it has been a dream of mine to design a cover for an ig release.  the closest i came was one of the indicated cd's (#iv).
after quickly looking over the covers of the cds i could easily find, my favorite artwork is on rop and nis.  i like that great photos of a&e are also included on the insides/back.

rop is probably one of my favorite cds due partly to virginia woolf being one of my favorite songs.   nis is right up there, and the hammer and nail video did a lot to flesh out what went into the creation of that cover.  we don't really know what went into most of the others.  i love a lot of the fonts that have graced the covers of most of their cds, also.

agreed.  the minute i heard the word "bucket," i thought "oh no...she's not
going to...oh shit, she did!"

i have made my feelings known on "stove" and "love."  (or as i sing it, "the
greatest gift of life is to know loave.")

i wouldn't mind the "fuck it" if she sounded like she had some conviction
about it.  instead, she sounds almost embarrassed that she's using it in a
song.  like "what will my folks think?"

i alos have a problem with "hookers" in "lay my head down."  (i forget your
name, but the person said it was about someone taking a nap - i love
that!).  i don't know if by singing it with higher notes is an attempt to
make it sound racy or something, but it just sounds awful.  and sadly,
judging from the live duo versions i've heard, it sounds worse live.

and what kind of room is emily hanging out in where there's both professors
and hookers?  should we be concerned about this?  and where can i find this
magical room?

i could have done with a good ol "fuck" in "caramia" or "trouble" or just
about any amy ray song on the face of the earth, but it just seems
out-of-place for emily in this type of song.

i have to give dod many many more listens and give
myself more time to process what i'm hearing.  so far,
i like most of it . . .

speaking of fonts and artwork, who was the one who
said "let's make the liner notes as unreadable as
possible by putting white text on an orange
background?" - maybe it's just my middle age eyes.
the cover artwork and pictures ares nice though.

hey,

so here's my $.02 on dod. i'm really underwhelmed. it's not bad, but it's
not great. it's just sort of...there. nothing on it really moves me very
much. in fairness, i've only heard it twice right now, but even so there
should be at least a couple of songs that knock my socks off. i like the
first three tracks a lot. "dirt roads and dead ends" is good. all the rest
just kind of blends into one mellow, folky porridge. i'll give it a few more
listens, but right now, i have to say this is the most unexcited i've been
about an ig cd in a long, long time.

cheers,

i've always liked the cover of nis but i like the inside pictures
from sos the best.

and just to pick one amongst many songs that have strong meaning to
me...  watershed always makes me feel good.  it always seems to come
on at some time when i "need" it to and always makes me smile.

ok, that one is less folky, but that doesn't mean it doesn't blend into the
rest of the cd. and, yes, i'm sure folky porridge is good for you and
everything, but i wish there were more little interesting chunks in
there--some raisins, perhaps, or maybe walnuts.
