hi folks,
here's a brief article/emily interview from the sydney star observer. it's=

indigo girls rocking into toWn
the world=92s most popular female folk/rock duo, indigo girls, are heading to=
australia.
emily saliers and amy ray will return to our shores for their third=
australasian
tour in october and will play sydney in november, showcasing songs from=
their
latest studio album, despite our differences.
=93making this record was really different for us,=94 saliers said.
=93We were all in the same room together: amy and i at producer mitchell=
froom=92s
home studio with engineer, david boucher, and the band.
=93it was like a little family experience, which is really, really different=
from
being in a huge, cold studio where everyone=92s isolated.
=93and there was a really strong trust factor with mitchell. he has a great
musical ear, particularly for harmonies and things like that. if he heard a=
note
that didn=92t sit well with him, he=92d tell us. it was a real exchange.=94
the band has long been a favourite on the lesbian circuit and in two decades=
together has notched up seven grammy nominations and more than 12 million=
album
sales.
despite the group=92s successes and undoubted performance ability, ray said
recording despite our differences still presented a challenge.
=93We felt intimidated by mitchell=92s abilities,=94 ray said.
=93to go in and just put ourselves out there and trust that he=92s going to take=
it
and work with it =96 that felt like a risk, but in a good way.
=93it=92s nice to get your adrenaline up. at this age you really have to keep=
trying
things you haven=92t done.=94
indigo girls play the enmore theatre on 6 november. tickets start at $79.90.=

i just noticed the part that said "tickets start at $79.90" -- granted i am
not familiar with the value of the dollar in australia, but isn't that a
little bit...ridiculous?

i don't know the conversion either but i do know that a ticket from atlanta
to australia isn't exactly cheap, so i am sure that this would figure into
the "production costs" of the show!

according to oanda.com, at today's conversion price, it would be in the
neighborhood of $68.32. considering i paid $80.00 (not counting
ticketb*stard fees) for nosebleed seats at a gwen stefani concert later this
month, $68.32 bucks seems fairly reasonable.

the 25 dollar (+ fees) price for the show at the roxy the other night in =
atlanta was a welcomed change from the typical 40-50 plus price tag that =
i'm used to paying. i don't mind paying a fortune for some shows, last =
year tom waits was about 80 bucks a ticket. we and my wife saw him twice =
and it was worth every penny. on the other hand, rediculous is the 102 =
dollar single ticket price tag on some of the smashing pumpkins tickets =
at the fox. this prices the real fans out the good seats. 102 bucks for =
half a band, made me wonder had d'arcy and james iha joined the =
"reunion" would tickets be 204.
and while i'm on my rant, this whole pre-sale crock-o-sh** really =
raises the ol' blood pressure. what i don't want to do is pay an extra =
15 to the itunes store or join a fan club to get a password, then =
another 30 percent to ticketmaster. etc.etc.etc.
