amy ray didn't it feel kinder (daemon)
amy ray sounds like the type of woman who could beat the shit out of a
bunch of knucklehead dudes at the local country bar and then steal their
girlfriends. she's hard and demanding, but stripped down and vulnerable on
this effort. she hangs with the "deviants and the tranny nation" who are
"so fucked they've got nothing to lose." she's folk, country, punk, rock
and one half of the indigo girls, which gives didn't it feel kinder a
comfortable, familiar sound thanks to those recognizable power-dyke vocals.
ray rocks it harder than her indigo persona, swearing and singing with
brutal honesty about things like how the gays have it rough and community
radio (on album highlight "slc radio"), all with her raw, flawless,
southern farm girl drawl. keeping back-up vocals low, ray really shines on
this rustic release, which is a must for indigo fans and a worthy summer
rock album for the curious. phil villeneuve

subject: a review of last night with amy ray

what an incredible night last night at a used bookstore in nyc. it was bill=
ed as an intimate evening with amy ray - and with only about 200 hundred pe=
ople there - that's exactly how it felt. it was a great old building with a=
=a0warm atmosphere and a very enthusiastic and helpful staff! i sat to the =
side of the stage - which was so worth the extra cash. amy came out looking=
really happy and pumped for the show. she introduced the opening act, ariz=
ona, and the young college aged guys came out and rocked the house! i was n=
ot familiar with them, but bought their album after the show. they did abou=
t five songs on their own, then amy came out and did some of the rocking tu=
nes from her new album, bus bus really stood out and truly rocked. it was f=
un to see amy interacting with these young guys - very playful and joking a=
round. brandi carlile came up and squished onto the stage with the rest of =
them. the entire group took a short break then amy and brandi came on
stage and amy said that they thought instead of doing two separate sets, t=
hat they'd both stay up there and switch off - i can't even tell you how am=
azing this was. both were happy, and in full voice and visibly so into the =
music that the entire crowd was just as engaged and in some cases overcome.=
i wish i was better at set lists, but in this case i didn't write anything=
down, but she played the new album, plus jonny rottentail, lucystoners, bl=
ack heart today, c'mon now social, driver's education, lazy boy and let it =
ring (yay!) i just got the new solo amy on tuesday so i'm still just gettin=
g acquainted with it - but i can say - all songs were great live. amy was v=
ery chatty with the crowd and silly and goofy - which made the show that mu=
ch more fun. brandi carlile earned goddess status, if not already, last nig=
ht.=a0 so i guess i'm saying i had an incredible time, got my cd signed and=
amy looked me right in the eye and gave me the best smile - wow! if
anyone else went last night - feel free to fill in the gaps - i'm not real=
ly good with reviews - but i wanted to share my happiness with you all.
=a0
peace out y'all
