lifeblood: songs: backgrounds: back off my joy
2017-08-24: emily saliers newsletter #2 - featuring an interview with adrian carter, the official emily saliers e-mail list:
a: you've called the making of murmuration nation "liberating," "a chance to explore," take on insecurities, and chase your curiosity. what was the boldest stretch for you musically on this record?
e: wow, that's a great question. we had a song called "back off my joy" that actually didn't make it on the album. it was very much a blues song and i was really into it, but lyris could never find her place in it. i sort of agreed to let it go, but that was tough. it was an interesting experience to have a song that i was quite sure would make it to the album not actually end up on the album.
